Press Release

The Arctic Ice Agency is very pleased to have been selected by two very high-profile unrestricted agents this summer, as Corey Perry and Patrik Elias have entrusted us to find the best deal for each of them. Don't be surprised if both end up in Montreal... just kidding.

While money and term are both very important to each player, perhaps the most important aspect that each player is looking for is fit. Regardless of what is being offered, the fit will need to be addressed whether it is for the coming season or for the duration of a term being offered. Please keep that in mind if you plan on sending offers in on either of these players, because we expect the money and term to be very similar in multiple offers so planning ahead to address this "fit issue" could very well be the difference between signing these players or not.

Happy contract offering! :emot-parrot:

Should also note that the buyout window closes tomorrow at 5:00pm Pacific Time. Remember that players need to clear waivers first so if they haven't cleared by that time, you can't buy them out. Also remember that even if they cleared earlier in the week they will need to clear again if the 24 hour time frame has passed.

Also note that tomorrow at 5:00pm is the deadline for qualifying restricted free agents. If they're not shown as qualified on your chart and/or the RFA chart linked on the first page, then I don't show them as qualified and they will become Unrestricted Free Agents.

Statement from New York Rangers GM Primal Optimist.

"Regarding Tim Brent's second round through waivers this week, we would like to set the record strait that our organization really appreciates Tim and everything he brings to the game we all love. It was our firm belief that Mr. Brent would be picked up off waivers last week, and further, that a small deal may be able to be done following the waiver window. He is as fine a role player as you will find in this league, and he has my respect as a professional hockey player. I would encourage anyone seeking depth to seek out Tim's skills, and while we intend to buy him out, we wish him the best in the future in life and in our league.

This was a tough process, in a cap tightening year to have to go through and we tried everything we could to avoid a buyout situation, but the facts don't change, that we are close to 50 players in our system, the cap crunch converging with younger players pushing for roster spots. This is never easy, and it seems to get harder with great guys like Tim Brent. I won't comment any further on the situation, but we felt as an organization we needed to clear the air."

New York Islanders 2013 Draft Re-cap

The Isles entered the 2013 draft with seven picks, due in large part to the compensation for losing RFA Victor Hedman one year ago, and they decided to not move any of them prior to selection. This decision was made largely on the basis that the NHL club has been very successful this year, being on the verge of a Cup win after coming 3rd overall in the regular season standings, with no glaring weaknesses heading into FA. With the bulk of the core of the team signed for next season, and a bevy of young talent ready to join their ranks, the Isles felt that continuing the path of drafting and development was the best option for staying competitive in the years to come.

11. Rasmus Ristolainen - With the 1st round pick acquired from Tampa for Hedman, this marks the second time in two years that the Islanders were able to grab the player they had targeted at their pick after Dougie Hamilton slipped in the 2011 draft to #7. The primary goal for this pick, from an organizational perspective, was to select either a forward or defenseman who had 1st line or 1st pairing potential. In Ristolainen the Isles believe we took a player who has the skills to become a complete player in every facet of the game, at the rearguard position, and he will be a cornerstone for Finland at the next two WJC.

30. Mirco Mueller - With our own pick the Isles went back to another D-man, though we had been expecting to draft a forward at that slot, taking the BPA with the last player in the 1st round. We believe we got a steal in Mirco Muelller, who the organization feels was one of the most NHL ready players available in the whole draft, as the young Swiss has the requisite size and two-way play to go along with top tier defensive acumen. Though it was difficult to pass on Morgan Klimchuk at this spot, as the club had been very high on him, we felt that a 2013 combo of Ristolainen and Mueller would provide us with two world class prospects to solidify our backend foundation.

41. Chris Bigras - For the third straight pick, the second from the Hedman compensation, the Islanders took another defenseman, this time in Bigras, who the organization sees as low risk/ high reward selection. In our assessment, Bigras has the potential to be a solid two-way player with the opportunity to really have his offensive game develop. With the depth at the D position ahead of him for the Isles, the club will be able to bring Chris along slowly and help him continue to grow into an on-ice leader and top 4 NHL D-man.

60. Brendan Leipsic - With the last pick in the 2nd round, the Isles took a player who was passed over in last year's draft but emerged this past year with 120 points for the Portland Winterhawks. Though a tad undersized, Leipsic is an exceptional skater who plays with a rough and antagonizing edge to his game. His hockey sense and drive are at a level that the Islanders believe will more than compensate for his stature, and point to rookie Brendan Gallagher as similar mold of a young player who can excel at the next level through his ability to compete night after night against bigger players.

76. Brock McGinn - Using a pick acquired near the trade dealine last year, the Isles took another 2012 eligible forward in McGinn who has strong bloodlines in hockey and the club views as a player likely to make his way onto an NHL roster in his career. Though not blessed with the greatest offensive upside, Brock is the type of industrious and physical forward who championship clubs require to win. His defensive game will be his calling card.

81. Dillon Fournier - Another 2012 holdover, Fournier is a lanky offensive defensmean who is a bit of a project but could potentially develop into a PP QB sometime in the future. Though he must bulk up and concentrate on his defensive assignments, the Isles felt his top end potential was too high to pass on.

90. Nick Moutrey - With the last pick in the draft the Isles selected Moutrey, a blossoming power forward, who played his draft year entirely as a 17 year old (Born June 24th, 1995 - Happy Birthday Nick!). This young man is expected to take large strides this year as he gains strength and confidence, and he has the potential to be a rare bargain this late in the draft.

The Blues are currently done with any actions.

Only Goal now is to find a solid 2nd Line Winger during the Offseason to fill the last Spot on the Forward Section.

Depending on the Cap of that Player it could be that the Blues are moving another Player to clear space.

Further we have a group of Players that could make it into the NHL next Season. Bournival , Sgarbossa and probably Darren Archibald could Jump into the Forward Squad. If this happen the one or other Bottom Six Player could be available during the Season.

Gelinas and Borowiecki are talented Defenders who could also make the Team. Boro allready made some Games this Season and Eric got a shot at the End of the Season. Konan and Abeltshauser are mentionable too. So a Veteran Defender could be also available during the Season.

Goaltending will be out Dark Horse next Season. We have 2 Solid Guys on the Starting Roster but we

dont know where they will end up during the Season yet. Svedberg could sneak into the Lineup though.
