Why didnt the top scorer in the WHL get drafted really high?

When it comes to prospects, It's never about points. I mean, it's important but you have to look at every attribute that can allow you to translate your skill to the NHL level.

Nic Petan is 5'9. Brendan Leipsic is also 5'9, and put up even more points on the same team. It's hard to tell with these guys. Ty Rattie, a prized prospect is also on the team, so he's playing on a pretty stacked line.

Put up points everywhere, but was just too small to get a shot in the NHL. Size will always be an issue.

Remember though, Martin St.Louis was never drafted.
