canuck2xtreme
Hello all, Just a note to say I'm still around. Had to take a bit of a break to get recharged before the season and to try and straighten out some things in my personal life. I'm going to be catching up in thread tonight and please bump any PMs I haven't responded to by tomorrow.

Mikko will currently be our starter and backup, as there’s no other goalie to currently take his place. Movement: Assign: Anthony Stolarz to the AHL. @canuck2xtreme

Guest
Vancouver wishes to terminate the contract of F Lance Bouma, following his decision to sign in Europe for the coming season. We wish him well in Switzerland, thank him for his service, and ask him to bring us some Toblerone back with him when he eventually returns to North America: https://www.tsn.ca/postma-wingels-bouma-sign-in-europe-1.1157991

The classic, “We forgot to get you a gift, so here’s something from the airport.”
Primal Optimist
man i didn't even get a gift of toblerone when my brother in law flew to Switzerland for his families "first cousins meeting". Once a generation they plot the worlds doom i guess in the alps, lol
aGENT
I find that whole 'mandatory' bring back a weird trinket (usually junk and/or a super thoughtful last minute at the airport 'Toblerone bar') because it's 'expected' very weird and unnecessary. If I actually see something I think someone I care about will genuinely enjoy...great. Don't get me started on how out of control children's birthdays, goodie bags etc are. Parents all running around buying gifts with money we don't have for kids we don't even know, for toys they don't need because they're are already buried under mountains of disposable toys and garbage from previous birthdays/Christmas/Easter/Halloween etc... ugggh All in the name of keeping up with the Joneses/consumerist manifesto. &^@# it all I say. My mom and dad (especially dad) travelled loads when I was a kid. All over the world and pretty much every other week. It became such a joke that all they’d come back with were ONLY toblerones and fish t-shirts. The fish t-shirts were simply them picking it up at the airport from the warm place they were coming back from. We all loved it. We never expected/wanted anything to begin with. So it was just a joke in our family. Like me and my brother now. Whenever we go over to each other’s house for dinner, we just bring a can of creamed corn. It’s been the same can going back and forth for about 13 years now.

My family is not nearly as involved with gift-mania. But we have a room in our house FILLED with toys for my 2 kids. I mean, if I took all of the toys my brother and I had growing up combined, and doubled it, it probably would still not compare. However, I'd say 90% of them are hand-me-downs from their older cousins, who keep cleaning up their mountains for the next load. At least they're getting recycled. When the room starts getting too cluttered, we donate a box or two - but they just keep coming. Crazy folks...
Primal Optimist
not to sound like a grumpy old man story but in the 70's as a kid i literally had a deck of playing cards that was cast off from my parents because it was missing a card for my toys and a small kids plastic short hockey stick and plastic red hollow puck. I used the cards to play army men: the red ones were one team and the black ones were the bad guys. There was always one less bad guy. haha. And then there were some other hand me down toys from my older brothers and sisters...hoardes of them...not toys..brothers and sisters...i am the youngest of 6 in my household... Not to labour the story...my mom got a gift of a train set for me to have from her boss..my own first real toy!! .....and my christian goody two shoes mom gave the train to a needy family for their son to have a christmas present. -.- to this day i remind her that WE were a needy family whose son wanted a christmas present. lol she remains unsympathetic. edit: and don't get me started on flea market Go Bots....grrrrrrr
Relyt Krets
Very excited to get the season going and embark on the adventure of a new year in a new league! Very happy with the team we picked up. Felt that there was no need to make many moves as we have sat back and let the off season roll on. Svech would be the biggest and best addition and we are really happy to have been lucky enough to get to draft him. Will be looking for a back up as we feel Filip is not quite ready yet.
