Nashville Predators Sign Dan Hamhuis to Two Year Deal - On the ... Flyers' Mason Moving On?

The Edmonton Oilers made two moves ahead of the deadline, as they acquired Defenseman Dan Hamhuis and backup Goalie Steve Mason. Thanks to Dallas GM @Kobayashi Maru and Philadelphia Flyers GM @Kurisu for smooth and quick negotiations. For the Oilers, they sit 2nd in the Pacific Division and have been in a slump in January, which is why we had to make a move in two areas, one on defense (preferably bottom pair) and backup goalie. The Oilers thank Jon Merrill and Carter Hutton for their services for the organization and wish them the best of luck.

Now the Oilers will pray and hope that these changes help the team go back into the right direction and stop the slump! With Oilers acquiring Dan Hamhuis, he will give his some depth in the backend. Hamhuis plays a well defensive game and also can play in a shutdown role. A true veteran warrior who the Oilers can count on, in key game situations. For Steve Mason, he will provide an excellent backup role, (which his numbers speaks for itself) and gives the Oilers a chance to win, when Ben Bishop is given a night off. With the deadline approaching, Oilers could make another move depending on where they are in the standings, but could be standing pat and watch the bidding war begin for some big name players.

Kris Versteeg - Connor McDavid - Kyle Okposo

Leon Draisaitl - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Jesse Puljujarvi

Milan Lucic - Cody Eakin - Josh Bailey

Paul Byron - Torrey Mitchell - Leo Komarov

Oscar Klefbom - Johnny Boychuk

Jake Muzzin - Mike Green

Dan Hamhuis - Ian Cole

Ben Bishop

Steve Mason

Thanks to @Kobayashi Maru for the good trade talk. Had I had time 6 hours ago, I would have completed this earlier. But life gets in the way.

What Jared brings is even more depth to by forward group and, more importantly, a potential 2nd line center in 2-3 years time, which I’ll need once I need to move on from Little, due to age.

We wish McCann luck in the peg and thank @Monty for the productive negotiations.  McCann is a great young player but Dallas forward depth was too much for McCann to get the opportunity he needed.  Dzingle will fill his third line center position while Hintz looks to take that spot at some point in the near future.

2019 DRAFT TIDBITS PART 4

Defenders Edition

Michal Krmas (RD)

  • Krmas has made a tremendous jump in the mid-term rankings, moving all the way up to the projected #2 overall pick. The two-way defender has spent the majority of the season with Sparta in the Extraliga, putting up a respectable 7 points in 27 games. He has also played 2 games with the junior team, and put up an impressive 4 goals and 1 assist. A late birthday, Krmas possesses well rounded attributes and has no major flaws.

Kurtis Zupo (LD)

  • Zupo is an intriguing draft prospect. The offensive defenceman hasn't exactly lit up the scoresheet with 12 points in 37 games, however he is playing behind a deep D core in Moose Jaw, which includes NHL prospects Marco Fitzgerald, Jett Woo, Brian Viscosi and Josh Brook. To show how highly thought of he is, Zupo was named to the Canadian World Junior team as a 17 year old. The expectation is that Zupo will step into a bigger role once these players graduate, and his potential has scouts excited to see what he will do in a bigger role.

Mitch Duke (RD)

  • The defense partner to last year's 6th overall pick Ty Smith, Duke has actually outperformed Smith this year with 37 points in 42 games from the backend. Duke also made Canada's World Junior team, where he also had more points than Smith. Duke may have some doubters, especially considering he's 5'9 and weighs 198 pounds, but scouts can't deny the talent that he possesses.

Luca Pannewitz (RD)

  • What's better than one top German defensive prospect on a team? How about two! Pannewitz is teammates with previous tidbit player Dennis Lohmer, and both have produced identical 15 points in 31 games statlines to date. Pannewitz is a big, 6'4 two-way defenseman with elite level skating. He was drafted in the CHL to Regina, and like Lohmer is likely to head to the CHL next season.

Jacob Fontana (RD)

  • Fontana has been a workhorse for Oshawa this season, averaging just under 23 min a game of icetime in his draft year. Although considered a playmaker, Fontana has taken on a two-way role using his 6'4 213 lbs frame. With his size and his 29 points in 47 games, Fontana may push his way to become one of the most desired defenceman in this draft.
