This thread isn’t about IF we should move Horvat, but rather, what would we be able to get in return for Bo Horvat at the trade deadline assuming that we are well out of playoff contention by then?

-JT Miller *possibly* lands you Braden Schneider+

So what would Horvat get you?  Which team could use a Bo Horvat?

It dawned on me today who Bo Horvat's comparable is: Brayden Schenn.

Brayden Schenn was traded by Philly to St Louis in exchange for 2 x 1st round picks and an expensive cap dump in Jori Lehtera (who was somehow making 4.7 mil/year).

Horrible take.

Another "rebuild" comes with a lot of unknowns. There is no guarantee that the Canucks would get a Bedard type of player just because we stockpile picks and tank. Heck, there is no guarantee that we even end up with players that are the same calibre as Petey and Hughes.

Petey and Huggy are 23-22 year olds. Again, 23 and 22 respectively but you want to blow it all up and attempt to go for more wildcard 18 year olds?

How about instead of being that hasty, we assess a lingering pattern over the last 7-8 years that might have contributed to this team's stagnation. I can think of one. We have only had inexperiencd rookie coaches for these last 7 years. We have a GM that makes headscratching transactions, sometimes at crucial moments for this team.

Also what is a "rebuild" under this ownership? We should've already done it properly 7 years ago in 2014 when Jim was first brought in.

You want another half-a*sed attempt at another "retool/rebuild" and end up with the same mediocre result? The Aquilinis have already shown us they're too chicken to go all in.

It's not changing anytime soon. Nothing more evident than Francesco's patience with TG. He's all about the money: saving it and selling as many tickets as he can no matter what really is good for the future of this team.

100% agree with you. Rebuilding doesn't mean trading away your 20-24 year olds.

JT Miller is actually my favorite Canuck, but if we're not going to be contending within the next 2-3 years, he's the logical trade to make.. Get a 1st and good prospect at the deadline for him.

The really awkward part about this is OEL will be 33-34 and making 7.2m. I think he'll do great for the next couple years under a new coach and system, but 3-4 years from now, that's probably going to be an albatross.

We pretty much have to find a way to retool the roster to contend within the next 2-3 years imo. The years after are going to be less fun.

one thing is for certain in a horvat trade, we are trading away the best player in the deal

Who needs a 2nd line center?

bos, col, dal, Fla, min and nyr come to mind

roster player, grade A prospect and a 1st rounder

Ideally would like a shutdown defenseman (like a real #2 defenseman, not another #6 of which we have many) and dump Myers on them. If we can get a top penalty killing forward too, that'd be ideal.

If a trade like that gets done, we do give up the more valuable player but get significantly better.
