BREAKING: Sharks Sign Cicek | San Jose Hockey Now

San Jose Sharks Prospect Report: Top 20

1. William Eklund - Spinnin' all around gettin' everybody woozie.

2. Liam Ohgren - He's looked very much like a professional player, insofar as being a body who can play a solid 200 foot game. He has not yet risen to the occasion of being an offensive force at this level. He could probably play in the NHL as a 4th liner by next year, but it might be better to get him offensive opportunity in a lower league.

3. Arvid Soderblom - What a revelation Soderblom has been. Signed as UFA out of Sweden last summer, he suddenly emerged in the AHL as a 22 year old rookie starting goalie. Now we expect he will play games for us at some point this season.

4. Roby Jarventie - He's already been a productive offensive contributor in three different pro leagues before turning 20. Needs seasoning to work on his 200-foot game, but he's gonna score some goals wherever he goes..

5. Calle Odelius - At just 18 he leads Djurgardens and is top 15 in the Allsvenskan for corsi so far this year.

6. Drew O'Connor - Played over 20 minutes in his last pre-season game with Pittsburgh. He could have played a 4th line role this year, but we're looking for him to go down and not just be good, but to dominate at the AHL level.

7. Ville Koivunen - At 19 he's 5th on his Liiga team Karpat in corsi despite ranking 19th on the team in OZS%.

8. Reilly Walsh - Seems like his odds are pretty good to be an NHL player at this point, and could be like a little bit of upside if he does make it.

9. Sasha Chmelevski - Has been Ufa's top line center this year, playing upwards of 20 minutes per game and he's 53+% on faceoffs. We're hopeful after a year in the KHL he will be able to make a pretty smooth transition into a prominent role with the Sharks next year.

10. Ian Mitchell - Was pretty solid in his first full AHL season last year. We're fully expecting him to play games this year and we think he could have a little upside.

11. Ben McCartney - Not sure what kind of upside is there but seems like a pretty good bet to make the NHL soon in a grinding role

12. Bryce McConnell-Barker - Named captain of his OHL Soo team at 18. Off to a solid start to his 2nd OHL season with 7 points in 8 games.

13. Oskari Salminen - Pretty high upside and to get him already 4 years post-draft into his development is huge for a goalie.

14. Gavin Hayes - Seems to be a bit of a theme with our forward prospects; size, skating and goal-scoring touch.

15. Ryan Fanti - Although they're the same age, Fanti is likely a little behind Salminen, coming from a lower level of hockey (NCAA vs Liiga). I like to think both have starter upside.

16.Viktor Lodin - An interesting mix of size, physicality and skill.

17. Nick Cicek -  In the mould of Carson Soucy, a big, physical defenseman who can play.

18. Topias Vilen - 6'1 defenseman who can defend and can move the puck.

19. Curtis Douglas - Very much a project, but it's hard not to say "what if?" with a player like this.

20. Vadim Zherenko - More of a longshot, but he's another goalie we think could have starter potential.
