(Rumour) PIT - SJ deal in works involving Petry for Kahkonen

The Penguins and Sharks are repordately talking about a trade which would free up a sizeable chunk of cap space and net the Penguins a new goaltender. 

 

The Penguins were working on Tuesday to find a new home for Petry, who was acquired by then-GM Ron Hextall last July. The goal for GM Kyle Dubas is to try to lower the Pens’ average age a touch. The view around the league is Petry has slowed down a bit and is no longer playing at a level commensurate to his cap hit. The term on his deal also makes him a little more difficult to move. It’s believed San Jose is a potential landing spot for Petry, while the Pens are also among the teams believed to be interested in Kaapo Kahkonen.

Petry is owed a 3 mill SB on July 1st. Might have to wait for that to be paid first. Or maybe Pitts attaches the #14 pick and pays through the nose.

If this was on the table I'd take Petry in a heartbeat... only has 2 years left. And he can protect Hughes for those two years

Petry is getting up there in age at 35 years old but still seems pretty effective. He averaged 22:21 per game this season in Pit and put up 31 pts in 61 games while posting 190 hits and 111 blocks.
