They're sitting at 23/23 on the roster, 45/50 roster spots, with a cap hit of $85,791,842. Next season's cap is $83.5M, so they're $2,291,842 over the cap. Do they have any injuries for LTIR space? I can't seem to find any. Maybe there's still a Granlund or Petry move in the works. I'd take Petry at 50% retained from Pitt for that stud Future Considerations. A trade at 50% retained would be better than a buyout for Pitt, too. A buyout is $3M, then $4M, and then two years of $1.25M. The trade would just be two years at $3.125M. That would put Canucks over the cap, but hopefully we're unloading one of Garland/Beauvillier. Petry would be a good partner for Hughes. He can still play, he's just expensive.

Happy he got a contract. I like him I don’t expect him to be a star, but injuries happen, and he adds some support at a much needed position. He’s a solid boy and likes to throw his weight around. 43 hits in 12 games! He can be a fine stop gap until we get Hughes a better partner

Reading this article on Pesce and I particularly like this quote: "Pesce provides a very stabilizing element to that pair that allows Skjei to utilize his speed to jump up in the play and engage offensively." Sounds like a perfect partner for Quinn.

Positionally he might be fine at Centre, but he hasn’t taken many draws the last few seasons, and his win rate is atrocious. He’s got a lot of giveaways too, not many blocks, though he does PK. I’d focus elsewhere, as I think we need a centre that can win draws. Ideally a righty.

I haven’t watched him a ton, but he seems much like Myers in his decision making. Again, I haven’t watched him a ton, but people say he is physical. He has fewer hits/g than Myers, who I personally don’t consider someone who really lays the body often. Does he have a more physical presence beyond hits? He’s been in a few fights, but not a ton. A bit slow to process and doesn’t move as fluid as I’d like. He also doesn’t have a ton of blocks, and his takeaways are poor. If we can get him for under $1M, it’s probably worth a flyer. Not sure I think there’s a ton there.

Completely agree. His skating, his poise, his puck handling, and his intense work ethic were all major plusses. He's a good size and only going to get bigger. I'm happy we drafted for a positional need. I think this kid will be an invaluable part of the organization. Really looking forward to watching him develop

Does this mean Acciari isn't re-signing in TOR? I'd be interested in picking him up as a 3rd line centre. Acciari is listed as a winger, but he won 337 FOs last year, 53.8%. He's only 5'10, but 209 lbs, and hit like a truck 244 times last season. He PKs, and he could be incredibly affordable. He might be perfect to support some of our younger centres (Raty, Aman) through winning draws while letting the young guys play the centre position.

If this was on the table I'd take Petry in a heartbeat... only has 2 years left. And he can protect Hughes for those two years

Was probably never going to happen, but he would've been a great fit. How's that AAV? Guy is pretty much a Defensive Specialist and solid centre. "Only" 51.5% FOW%, but he took over 1k draws, so that's pretty impressive. But seems a little rich for a 4th line centre. Especially for TOR who is so cap strapped...

I'm not sure honestly. He has 44 giveaways (Bear had 28 in 10 fewer games), and 17 minor penalties. So maybe they're looking for a bit more discipline? Maybe they don't want to have nearly $11M tied up in Joneses and they're just happier letting some of their ELC LHD take that spot.

Colton hits a lot and wins a good number of draws, though he didn't take a whole lot this offseason. Seems to have a decent O-Zone ability, great forechecking, and lots of shots. I'm fine with Canucks missing on him, doesn't play much defense, and we need a shut down third line centre that PKs. Colton doesn't do that. And he's a left. He's not the 3rd line centre we need

I’m back and forth on Wood. He’s 27, so within our age needs, 6’2 190lbs, and he throws a lot of hits. But I’ve heard he can make some smooth-brained decisions with the puck, leading to atrocious turnovers/giveaways. He also plays no PK time. I’m interested in him as a potential 3rd/4th line winger, but I want to know if he is willing to step into a more defensive role. Shift away from the top-6 mindset and focus on being a menace to the other teams, while killing penalties. He could find a great fit in our lineup, if that’s the case Potential 4th line that would be run and gun, that also kills lots of penalties: Wood - Aman - Joshua

I didn’t watch much of that series so this is interesting to hear. We’ve obviously got a wealth of wingers and so I’m a bit hesitant to signing more without moving some of the older guard (especially with Pearson potentially returning). This points to some thoughts I’ve had lately around the importance of embedding grit and toughness in the whole team. You can’t have one or two “tough” guys and expect them to carry the team through the playoffs. You need a culture of toughness built on trust and support. Players support each other and guys know their line mates have their back. For Edmonton, Kostin alone can’t watch everyone’s back, especially if he knows there’s not a couple guys behind him watching his back. Vegas’ whole team is big and plays a solid game, lots of grit and snarl throughout their lineup. They don’t have one guy who has to do it all. Team toughness is significantly more important than individual toughness. So, all this to say, we need to build our teams camaraderie and sense of team, while also adding in some bigger knock-your-brains-out type players

Any way you could package our 11, Garland, maybe a prospect for their 18, Kupari, and one of their LD (Stanley, Dillon, Samberg) to play with Hronek? I personally see so many valuable players available at 18

I'd do that trade. I think there will be lots of strong options at 15OA. With so many talented players in this top 20-25, if we can help the team by moving one of our excess wingers, acquiring a much needed RD that can play defense, clearing some cap space, and still pick one of our top guys I think we should absolutely do the trade. I wonder if Nashville does this? What are they really getting out of this trade? Gaining some offense through Garland is valuable (NSH was 6th worst GF last season), but I think unless they have a specific player they want at 11, what's the value for NSH? Getting Fabbro makes it easier to offload Myers to say, Chicago, without putting too much pressure on our young D prospects to perform.

For Defensemen, Burroughs is top 25 in hits this season with 165 (12th in hits/60 with 11.9), 84 blocks (35th in blocks/60), fourth in fights/60, and he's on the low side of xGA/60 at 2.52. Sure, his xGF/60 isn't great, but he doesn't need to be super effective in that regard to be a 6/7. (10 game minimum for all these stats) Do I think he should be slotting in with Quinn? No. Do I think he provides a ton of toughness and is relatively stable on the backend, if a little uninspiring? For sure. And to me that's worth a league minimum for a few years. Plus he has huge character, is a local boy, and, as others have said, will stand up for anyone on the team. He plays clean, checks, and battles hard. I guess I just value what he brings. I also think tough guys like playing with other tough guys, spreads the workload rather than having a single "fighter" So....
