Is Suter not signed yet?

…and back to the topic, here’s what the article said about Blueger:

Ultimately, Teddy Blueger is a target I really liked as well, and considering the cheap one-year deal he signed, I’m a big fan of that signing for the Canucks. Blueger might not be a true 3C on a good team, but you would have to overpay to land a real, high-end 3C.

I totally agree and he is a very good 4C, but landing a guy like Suter would be tremendous.

Looking at some of Bleuger’s numbers…. This guy seems to add to possession in quite a good way. His FOW% isnt anything flashy or overly impressive. But his details in the dzone seem to lead directly to possession. Here’s what really impresses me.

ALL SITUATIONS
2018-19

36.6oZS%

CORSI 44.1%

decent contributions to possession in his rookie season.

Now… where it gets really impressive

2019-20

25.4oZS%

CORSI 46.0%

That is a massive change in direction of where the play started, to who’s winding up the chances. You’d think someone who starts basically 75% of their time in the dzone, would have a much lower CORSI to reflect that. But his CORSI shoots way up.

2020-21

26.6oZS%

CORSI 43.1%

2021-22

22.8oZS%

CORSI 43.1%

2022-23

15.3oZS%

CORSI 40.8%

split between PIT and VGK.

PIT numbers

12.8oZS%

CORSI 40.2%

VGK numbers

24.1oZS%

CORSI 42.3%

Didnt matter which team, he had equal impact on possession. This could be the sneaky good signing that no one is talking about.

Very very give aways and some decent take away numbers.

Bleuger might be the underrated acquisition this off season for us. Might he be our Malhotra?

I think because he was playing in the east in Pittsburgh a lot of Canucks fans just haven't seen him play. He had a bit of a down year this past season, but previously he was easily one of the top 5 defensive forwards in the league in my opinion. He was also a monster on Pittsburgh's PK for a few seasons and I think even led the team in short-handed minutes (over the all the defensemen) one season.

I’m not so sure I would compare him to Malhotra and that’s not meant to disparage Blueger, but he’s better suited as a 4th line center, where as Malhotra was an elite 3rd line checking center.

I dont mean it as a direct comparison. Moreso the type of impact he may have in the bottom 6, as Malhotra did. An important role player, that could help make us a tougher team to score on.
