  1. The way I see it we should have kept Petey and Hughes and built around them. Whether we are good enough in the next 2,4, or 6 years it doesn't matter as they are in their prime for the duration. What matters is building the best team we can in that period in order to challenge for a Cup. We'll see if all these shortcuts leave us "short", or if we can maneuver our way through the maze of inefficiency.
  2. Thanks, He's got to be a candidate for getting sent down after the season starts then as it currently stands. I think we're banking on getting rid of at least one winger in order to create cap. What would happen if we can't move anyone though? How much cap would we have, and for how many players, if we say, kept the extra $$ open for Podkolzin to initially stay up (or what would we do here)?
  3. I'm happy to disagree in a friendly way. I honestly just don't know what people are seeing. Usually I'm in the same ballpark but maybe my expectations are just too high or something. I just saw nothing that said to me he's a good defender to add to this team. The only time I noticed him is when he was making glaring mistakes in his own end and literally putting the puck on people's stick's for wide open goals. Other than that I like how he sneaks in off the point in the o-zone but that's not near enough for me to like him overall as a player. If we do sign him I hope to Gawd it's not more than 1 year or that we can bury it if need be. If he proves to more than a depth option I will gladly eat crow on this one but I'm honestly just amazed that he's seen as anything except filler by folks here on cdc. It feels like desperation.
  4. I thought he was awful ... a lot of people here starved for good RD don't even know what it looks like anymore. Propped up by Hughes he looked half ass passable but just terrible in his own end (Myers like at times) and very little to add offensively. He's a 7th/8th defender on a good team and as we saw in Carolina he sat for about 30 games straight. They didn't even bother playing him over a guy like Chatfield for 7 games to start the 22/23 season to see what they had. They already knew. Says it all right there. One of Hughes better partners means absolutely nothing considering what he was competing with. He should get a show me 1 year contract at league minimum ... the last thing I want to do is sign this guy as a starter. It would be a big mistake. I think this team needs to set our aim higher than what Bear offers, which at this point is nothing. Plus he's hurt, our focus should be elsewhere if we're striving to make the playoffs.
  5. Yeah absolutely VH, I'm not super keen on either guy but I'd rather sign a pile of dirt for one year than carry around that $5 mil dollar cap hit for 3 more years. Couldn't care less if Garland is a not bad hockey player for a tiny tot that doesn't kill penalties. Nothing at all against him personally. I hope we trade him somehow and he goes on to great success somewhere else.
  6. 6 spots for 9 guys ... Podkolzin could start in the A though can't he?
  7. is Garland available to be bought yet in the first or second window? What about Pearson?
  8. Disagree, Wheeler and Bailey are far better for what we need. I would 100% rather have these guys on a smaller contract for less years.
  9. I think we all know the reason Juulsen was in there is because we can't control our cap spending. Nothing against Juulsen, he's a good player but he's borderline AHL, just not the first choice for any NHL team.
  10. Yeah, way more likely he sign in Van at league minimum to be our third line center so he can play with PDG and Studnicka.
  11. Yeah, I think this year everyone will understand how difficult of a challenge it will be. I could see Calgary being a lot better this year too depending on what happens there. Of course, Seattle, LA, Edmonton, and Vegas will all be very strong. We're in one of the toughest divisions now. I'm curious if Seattle is a player this year in the market or if they are going to continue with the long game.
  12. Please please please don't sign Bear. Good signing on Juulsen. He could make some strides this year if he can stay healthy.
  13. Yeah I'd say this is exactly the type of player they needed to compliment the core. Like a lot of new trades I suspect he'll fit in a lot better next year.
  14. Yeah I'm rethinking my stance thanks to some of your replies. I wouldn't be surprised if they are still competitive to some degree though. They always seem to have some prospects step up every year. We'll see. Thanks for the update.
  15. That's what Alf calls Moritz Seider. That was a parody by the way.
  16. Yeah I guess with Trotz now at the helm we may see a different approach in Nashville. They haven't rebuilt since their inception have they? Maybe they're in Celebrini mode.
  17. Yeah that's what I see too. I know a lot of people here like to write off other teams in hopes that it means the Canucks make the playoffs. However, even though Nashville traded off a lot of players at the deadline I think they will revamp and make a go of it. I was going to say Nashville is kind of like a Canadian team. They have real knowledgeable hockey fans and it's tough for owners and fans alike to commit to a lengthy rebuild when they think they can be competitive with a couple tweaks. Nashville has just been a little better than us at doing it.
  18. Stevie W is a puck sucker. He screwed up when he let Hronek go and had to have a press conference to explain why he traded their best dman instead of slow mo. Now he trades for Yamaoto, when really he was trying to order a Tomato sandwich on Skip the dishes. Stupid Siri, and stupid Stevie Y. The worst GM in hockey he'll be fired. Kostin also sucks pucks and the Canucks are getting 105 points this year with Prince Hronek. All praise King Allvin. Whew, I feel like a scotch.
  19. That Duchene buyout barely makes sense. Are they in win now mode when most people see a rebuild. I think they'll be better than a lot of people think. They've never been a fold it and rebuild type of franchise. I guess it saves them money in the long run if they just want to be done with him.
