  1. Yeah Beau was 100% a cap dump and I'am sure we haggled to get the best one we could. It is what it is and we'll see if he starts the season with us and where if he does. If they can't move him maybe they play him on the first line and plump him up for the TDL. He showed he can play with Petey which would allow us to beef up the other lines.
  2. Hi everybody. I'am a scientist who has just completed a working time machine. I couldn't wait to try it and my first visit is from 2021. I'm here to see a picture of OEL hoisting the cup for the Canucks. Can someone direct me to the celebration page?
  3. 16 goals and 16 assists. Similar situation in terms of team skill but I wonder if he even repeats those stats in Colorado where their team dynamic is different. Kind of pricey.
  4. Yeah I agree I wouldn't pay anything significant to move Garland this year either. I might do it for a third, but I'am on the fence on that. It's not a super high probability pick anyways. I wouldn't do it for a second though, not that we even have one for 2024, but that's also a reason to keep our third. Three years of saving 5 million of cap, one during the big OEL hit, is tempting though.
  5. Yeah there is no one doing any favors for TB though and they couldn't afford Hronek anyway. That's why they're ok paying a premium in order to secure a low cost player. He fits into their elite team now, while they are perennial favorites. I agree it's definitely high, just TB doesn't really care all that much. I for one can see the allure of Jeannot to TB. He's a glue guy that can hopefully play playoff hockey and make them a hard team to play against while he helps their stars take care of the scoring. He was one of the youngest, feistiest, hardnosed, bottom 6 players in the league in 2021 with a whopping 24 goals and 130 PIMS. He was always going to be expensive as TB is hoping to get that 25 goal player who brings a serious edge on top of that. Theoretically it should be possible in TB. They saw what they wanted and paid to make sure they got it. I'd say a fair price maybe would have been a 1st, and a 3rd. They threw in a 2nd, and some scraps to make it happen.
  6. I'm not sure if anyone would want to trade for Garland, so no but you never know until you ask. That would be the plan if I was Allvin, some teams may like him and have the room for him. I agree it may be difficult and not happen though. I would be trying to trade Garland, Beau, and Boeser, in that order (not important). Beau comes off after this year no matter if he's traded or not, so we're good there regardless. We are going to need cap space moving forward for Petey, Hronek, Pods, Kuz, Silovs, and additions to the line-up so I believe we'll probably be in the same boat regarding Garland next year and the one following anyway (trying to ditch his $$) ... especially with the OEL buyout penalty looming. I don't know what to think on Boeser, he's a homegrown talent, and he probably has debatably the best skillset, and he's definitely the biggest of the three. Does he finally put it altogether this season ... Who knows but I get the feeling management is not that interested in moving him. At least he's definitely capable of playing in the top 6 with both Petey, and Miller, and on the PP with no Bo this year. Beauvillier played fairly well on the top line with Petey, but so does everyone. Not so much on the third line or on Miller's wing. I agree that's a bad fit. Imo, one, and hopefully two of the three must go. The cap space is the important thing.
  7. Not really a bad over payment though. Similar to Hagel, and Nick Paul, they target young players with lower salaries that they know will fit into their line-up in the future. As such they are in a unique position to provide more value to their team then they would to others. In the long run it's a price to field an elite team capable of winning a Cup in any given season. It's been quite a brilliant move for them in the past actually. Really only the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd hold much value, So I look at it as giving up a first and second as the major pieces with a third thrown in. Scatter all the picks across multiple years and it's really not as massive as it looks. They give up a second in 2024 and a first in 2025, the rest were from 2023. Really they can get by without the 2023 draft.
  8. They could pay this price for a pure rental. Having him for two more years the gamble is well worth it for where they are in their cycle.
  9. Oh I don't. I see now where we are missing each other's point. I kind of like Beauvillier's offensive flair but I can 1000% understand rating Garland above him. I just don't think either are worth the $5 mil or so in cap space to play on the third line while providing nothing on special teams. The cap space is far more important to the Vancouver Canucks and we can easily get by without either player imo. Realistically we should have cheaper guys on the third line wing so that money can be spent on either Defence, a 3C, or a top 6 scoring /grittier winger. So yeah I'll agree we get rid of Beau first but really it's not as important as just getting rid of one of them if it comes to that.
  10. Alright fair enough ... it seems like maybe you're not understanding my point but probably you do and you're just arguing yours. I don't see him as adding as much as the other main players I've listed but he makes more than everyone else and we need to find the $$ somewhere. Simple as that for me. He can stay or go ... I care not lol.
  11. Sure, but I personally wouldn't build a hockey team purely based on that myself. Unfortunately there is a salary cap and he's near the top of the list of realistic surpluses. We could possibly trade Kuzmenko (not my preference) I guess and then he can play with Petey if that's the case. He's a super expensive third liner though ... especially without the PK ability.
  12. I hear ya but I don't even like his 5v5 game. I don't think he's that good and certainly not great. That's just me though. The thing with "not keeping everyone" is none of the other players give us cap space besides Beau, Boes, and Garland. So, in that sense it is kind of hard to just keep them because we like them more than say Joshua, or Aman. We have next to zero cap space but obviously we're not trading Petey, Miller, Hughes, Demko, or Hronek. Hogs and Pods don't give us cap relief so it doesn't leave too much to work with. Pearson, and Poolman, aren't going anywhere and everyone else would need to be replaced by someone making just as much. Garland being good at 5v5 is still grossly overpaid on the third line, and I really don't think his game is suited to the playoffs either. We can afford to lose one of the three and financially wise replace them with no one. Personally I don't really care which of the 3 get moved just that's it more important to move at least one and preferably two in order to address more pertinent areas. If we want to get better that is. Let's be honest here, none of those 3 are so valuable they are above getting traded to make the team better. For me he's just the one with the most term and therefore the least overall benefit. Beau comes off next year regardless and Boeser is a homegrown talent with one less year, and he is a proven PP guy too. I would be okay moving him but he may be poised for a big bounce back year here. Honestly, nothing against Garland, it was just a super dumb move by Benning and now we have too many wingers making too much money. I'm fine with your suggestion of Beau, and Myers if that can be done but Myers needs to be replaced in that scenario. We may also see Garland pop up again during the next two years if he finds himself in the bottom 6 again. This is where Hogs and Pods should be playing at near $1 mil, not 5 MILLION DOLLARS.
  13. I know you like Garland a lot. He'd be my first guy I'd get rid of though. Too much money for a tweener who doesn't penalty kill and can't solidly himself on a top 6 line. Don't mind him but I'm not a fan of his style either. All those spinaramas and tough angle shots are kind of cool to watch but I find him ineffective overall and I also feel his line mates have a very tough time working with that style and reading off of what he is doing. Of course he is quite skilled and that does lead to points but the problem is you can't keep everyone and his cap space is hurting us. He is one of the first contracts that is plausible to get rid of ... if anyone will take him that is ... otherwise I figure he'll just be blocking us from using that money where it is needed more.
  14. I think the team needed to be taught lessons about responsibility far more than rewarding them for their crap performance during the season. If Kuzmenko wanted he could have bared down and played the best hockey of the season and still scored if it was that important, which I don't think it really was 39 ... 40 same difference to me. It's not like he got benched or anything.
  15. lol ... I gave you the Louie but only because that was the exact look he had after the goal
  16. They've also got Jamie Drysdale, Owen Zellweger, Cam Fowler, Tristan Luneau, and Noah Warren. That's some pretty damn good D if they pan out.
  17. I would think admitting he made a mistake goes a long way to getting another chance. It's no question he is very smart, and in my opinion the best goalie I have ever seen (Lindbergh). His dedication is obvious if he can overcome his cockiness I could see him in the NHL again.
  18. Yeah, it is called defence, and it's definitely questionable.
  19. I figured he must have done something of questionable conduct.
  20. Roy just won the memorial Cup. You could tell that team was very well coached. He also wants to return to the NHL. https://www.nhl.com/news/patrick-roy-wants-to-coach-in-nhl-again-but-is-at-peace-with-emotional-past/c-344795208 Coaching is something that is tough to gain a handle on. Lots of coaching is dependent on the team you have to work with and ability often coincides with experience and even seasons of losing. It's really hard to judge RT after a 2 year break in coaching and then a return to head coach. Some players need coddling but players also need to buck up, be a man, and do what it takes to win. Personally I have no problem with RT expecting Kuzmenko to buy in and play defence. Expecting to win with your top players being passengers will not produce a winner. Not saying RT is right or wrong, good or bad, but I do personally agree with holding your players accountable. By all reports he is a players coach and committed to building player relationships as the basis to coaching. I think we're gong to see him pull this team together for a good season. I don't think he is simply a stern task-master. I see a pretty astute hockey mind and exactly what the doctor ordered for this core. He definitely had some good things happening after he took over.
