Jordan Schroeder Talk

Schroeder came pretty darned close to ending it himself just before the winning goal. His chance could have gone both ways though. Canada had an odd man rush after he was stopped where they got a good scoring chance but at the same time, his late change led to the USA's odd man rush that produced the winning goal.

If the first round pick of Boston (via Toronto) turns into the 1st overall pick. I'd trade Schroeder to Boston for that pick if they'd do it. Just for the sole purpose of drafting Taylor Hall and rubbing into Burke's face.

I'm sorry but that trade would never happen, but hypothetically if it did it would be amazing

The Gophers hope Jordan Schroeder's gold-medal experience in the World Juniors will spark a second-half resurgence.

Jordan Schroeder is back from the World Junior Championships. And not empty-handed this time.

The sophomore center has a gold medal, a first for a Gopher from this international event, because the United States upset Canada 6-5 in overtime on Tuesday in the title game in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

"It was awesome," Schroeder said, "especially seeing Canada on the other blue line with silvers on their neck, all sad. They had won it the past five years. It's about time the U.S. takes it from them."

This was Schroeder's third appearance in the World Juniors, and the United States finished fourth and fifth in the previous two years.

"I wanted for sure to come home with a medal," said Schroeder, who scored to put the U.S. up 2-1 in the final. "A gold medal, there is nothing more special than that."

With three goals and five assists in the tournament, Schroeder became the Americans' career scoring leader in the World Juniors with 27 points.

After a travel day, Schroeder rejoined the Gophers for practice Thursday as they prepared for the weekend series against Harvard. Practice actually was delayed two hours because his hockey gear arrived late.

Gophers Don Lucia said Schroeder should be energized and excited.

"He can score more goals, and we are going to need him to score more goals," Lucia said.

The Gophers (9-10-1) still are trying to get over the .500 hump. Their biggest albatross? They average a mere 2.5 goals per game.

Schroeder was the preseason pick as WCHA Player of the Year, but Vancouver's first-round choice in the 2009 NHL draft (22nd overall) has only four goals and eight assists.

"It was an adjustment," Schroeder said. "Obviously with [Ryan] Stoa last year, he is a great goal-scorer and just getting him the puck, he could score almost every time."

Stoa had 24 goals last season, then signed with Colorado in the offseason.

1G 5A +2 in 4 games since WJC. He's on fire (finally). i don't know if it's the gold medal experience, an entire team turn around, or him finally getting comfortable on his crappy team, but either way it's nice to see consistent points.

The addition of Cepis has helped. Cepis is small, but he at least has the talent to keep up with Schroeder. It's always why Budish was put with them to add some size.
