With Kesler Out...

Recommended Posts

kesler's injury presents a practical difficulty for the Canucks because they now have a glaring need at the 2nd line center position. If Kesler does indeed take his time to re hab properly from injury, this difficulty could last some time.

As far as current players in the organization goes, Schroeder will have a chance, but I wouldn't call it a sure thing. Malhotra and Lappierre will only battle for the 3rd and 4th line spots, I think.

And like any training camp there needs to be bodies both from a competitive and practical standpoint.

So what does MG do? It is a tricky issue because once Kesler returns, arguably you want your Selke winning center playing that position.

Alot of talk has been made about the third line center position, but to be honest this is probably the biggest problem the Canucks face right now (aside from dealing with their goalie situation).

The answer is easy, trade him for a centre who can actually pass, set up plays, take criticism professionally, doesn't dive, doesn't make excuses, and most importantly someone who actually makes his linemates better, not worse.

Hey, "Canucks Third Line", did you feel the same way about Kesler when he scored 40 goals and 40 assists and won the Selke? He's one of the few untouchables on this team and would be untouchable on any other team and you want to trade him because he's been injured. Thank god your not running this team.

Kesler has the talent to be on that second line. MG needs to build that line to enhance his abilities. Having another shoot first, pass later guy on his wing didn't do anything for him. Nicholas Jensen is a smart young hockey player who has the smarts to know when to shoot and when to pass. He's gonna make Kesler a superstar as well as himself. Even if dealing him were an option, who's gonna take on an injured player who is battling confidence issues. Nope, get him back to 100%, find him a left winger and get him back to playing his gritty, in your face style that got him 73 points in 2010-2011. No more diving. Thats not his style and it shows when he tries.

I'm not a big fan of divers anyways. This team as a whole needs to find it's swagger again. The regular season success is great, but seeing them hoist a cup would be amazing, but in order to achieve that, they need to raise their game in the playoffs. They were one game away a year ago and, in the end, it was their lack of grit and backbone that cost them. The refs said before game seven, they were gonna let the players decide the winner; in other words they were putting the whistles in their pockets. Our team just didn't answer the bell.

Best possible move the Canucks could make up front would be to sign Jason Arnott July 1.

6'5" 225 lb solid player, decent speed for age

plays shut down center

moves anywhere up the lineup, PK, PP

plays right wing and has over 500 career assists

Has a ring!

Imagine Booth/Kesler/Arnott after Kess returns? Amazing 2knd line!

Doesn't even have to stop Schroeder from making the team, in fact his size makes it attractive to do so.

I think it's ideal to give Schroeder a chance and if he struggles then the staff can make adjustments from there. Kesler won't be out for too long. It is also Schroeder's last year of his ELC so the organization will have a good look of what this guys developed haven a good sense on his value contract wise

My solution:

Trade 1:

To TB-Luongo,Raymond

To VAN-Lacavalier, 1st rd pick (Detroit's)

Sign Kristian Huselius, and Moen

Without Kes:

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows

Booth-Lacavalier-Huselius

Higgins-Schroeder-Hansen

Moen-Lapierre-Manny

With Kes

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows

Kesler-Lacavalier-Booth

Higgins-Huselius-Hansen

Moen-Lapierre-Manny

$2.5 last year with a $387,500 signing bonus equalled a $2.875 cap hit according to Cap Geek.

:)

Question is, what is he worth? He did make 4.5 million last year. Is he willing to take a significant pay cut? To play in Vancouver?

I like the leadership he brings though.
