SkateLogoWasBetter
Roberto Luongo has looked better this young season than he has since the season before his "collapse" against the Boston Bruins. Tim Thomas was an elite goalie happy to rest on his prior accomplishments and in dire need of a swift kick to be buttocks. Then Rask started to overachieve and challenge him. Suddenly, Bruins fans called for Thomas to step aside and get traded. The guy was overrated and would never be enough to win a Cup. Viola, the 2010 playoffs occurred. Suddenly Timmy is the SOLE reason the Bruins not only compete but steal a Cup from the epic Canucks squad. Is Cory Schneider the Canucks version of Tuukka Rask? Can you imagine the irony of piggybacking Luo this season to a Cup win?

DSVII
I can see us holding onto Lu until the season ends simply because of the demands of the 48 game schedule. Not because we are copying boston or anything.
Super_Canuck
so then will Luongo become an outspoken critic of Stephen Harper and his gov't and then quit the NHL? lol

James van Riemsdyk
I don't care if he's traded or not, He's doing great and he's doing it for our team and that's what matters. Our team as a whole we shouldn't trade away great things for nuts and bolts, if he's holding our team together like glue we'll keep that glue on. He's part of the team and when a player is down his teammates don't kick him while he's down they help him to his feet and regain his stride. Vancouver's comeback
The Bruins beat us because they were a better team. By no means was Thomas the sole reason for their success. Boston did not 'steal' a cup from us. Fans like you make us look bad- it's called being a sore loser. The beatdowns in Beantown, capped off by a 4-0 shutout in Game 7, on our home ice, is not 'stealing' a cup. They were a great team that was built better for playoff hockey than we were. To answer your question- no. No one plans out the sort of thing that transpired in Boston, and we definitely aren't doing that here, not after having signed Schneider to that contract in the offseason. The 'controversy' in our city over the future of our goaltending situation exists only in the minds of groupie fans and the attention starved Vancouver media. Yes, both Luongo and Schneider give us a chance to win every single time they are on the ice. Either one could backstop us to a Stanley Cup. Of course, logically, Cory Schneider was handed the keys in this offseason as he proved himself to be a very technically and mentally strong goalie in 2011 - 2012. Management recognized this, and combined with the fact that at the age of 26 (27 this March), he has several years left to be a top goaltender in the NHL, it was a no brainer to move forward with him. Roberto Luongo is still a fantastic goaltender, as evidenced by his strong play to open this season. Obviously, Vigneault has no obligation to play one goaltender over another. So of course, he is giving them a reasonable split- his objective is to make sure the Canucks win games, and will use everything at his disposal to ensure that objective is achieved. There is no goalie controversy. You'd have to be delusional to think that Bobby Lu has a place in the future of this organization. Gillis is simply waiting on a deal that he feels gives us a worthwhile return for the elite goaltender that Luongo is. In the meantime, we will continue to use him in a way that helps us to win games.
JelloIce
Disregarding the media knacking on him and the fans witchhunting him...Lui is an incredible team player. If Lui spent all his days in the locker room bitching left and right, then yeah, we'd have a problem and AV would certainly take into consideration the extra dimension in picking which goaltender to play. But we don't have that. Yes, Lui looks super awkward in interviews, but I haven't seen any evidence of him being a locker room problem. He's here to play hockey. He's repeated time and time again that wherever he ends up, there's no hard feelings. While he's in Vancouver he's here to help the Nucks win. First and foremost and I think the special thing we have in our locker room is that our players are not only teammates but friends as well. Maybe instead of constantly being a skeptic, people could just take his word as is...for once?

Bodee
I think it is a tactical mistake to keep playing Lu. We need to find out how good Cory actually is, on a nightly basis. If we part with Lu and then find Cory falls short, who is our back up. It could blow a whole season never mind the playoffs. I don't want to see Lu take some other team to the SC while we wrestle with the devils of a goalie slump.

DownUndaCanuck
Luongo is playing as well as Thomas did after he was benched and Rask was set up as their starter, so yes it's eerily similar. I thought this thread would rather be about how we should try and adopt a meaner, dirtier and more physical style of play during the playoffs like how Chicago, Boston and L.A beat us to win Cups. We are no longer the most skilled team in the league, but we are much bigger and tougher than we've ever been with Kassian, Booth, a better Hansen, Higgins, Garrison and Volpatti over Burrows, Samuelsson, Glass, Bolduc and Salo. This team needs to play the same way Boston did to win a Cup over us - hard, physical, pounding game and break down the opponents with physical play, then beat them on special teams with our skilled guys when they're banged up.
