Primus099
This is Hodgson all over again, young guy with potential to be a future star on this team, someone else is speaking for him whining about ice time except it's his agent instead of his dad. and we all know how the Hodgson situation ended
canucks_qc
Mike Liut should keep his ???? trap shut. If you have an issue with playing time you talk to Gillis and Vigneault, not flap your gums in the media to create even more controversy and put pressure on the GM and coach. What a lowball tactic. Can people just shut up and let this team continue winning, please?

tigerwilliams for pm
What if Lou continues to be great? He might be doing a good job of playing team player with his buddy Cory. But truely being pissed off on the inside is a powerful motivator. If you were him what would you do? You would go in there with the attitude that you were never going to play second fiddle. Pal's or not. Cory better be excellent when his time comes of he will be watching a lot of games. Its a worst case senerio for a 1st shot at being #1 being such a short season. There wont be a lot of patiance in playing out of a slump. If he manages to get in there & play great as well with all the pressure on him in this competition for #1.Because thats what it still is. Managment has created this situation by not dealing Lou sooner. His strength under pressure will grow leaps & bounds. It's going to be an intresting to see how things play out to say the least. I think papa Liut is scared for his cliant I would be to.
smurf47
Looking at the stats.... Not surprisingly, both goalies posted their weakest numbers of the season in Game 1. Schneider Average (including first game): .859 Schneider Average (excluding first game): .932 Luongo Average (including first game): .931 Luongo Average (excluding first game): .950 Both have earned a shutout. Some have suggested it's the quality of opponent that should be considered, so... Schneider against SJ: .852 Luongo against Chicago: .964 (SJ has 15 pts in 9 games. Chicago has 16 in 9.) So it seems obvious that the team would keep going with Luo until his play slips OR until the schedule bunches up in a couple of weeks, at which time Schneider will have a chance to make his case. Beyond that, we really should be considering ourselves the luckiest freaking team in the league to have this goalie "problem" in which we can bench a guy with a .932 average if you don't include that first game! Instead, we should be focusing on why it is the rest of the team seems to be having trouble maintaining focus and level of play.

Papayas
Florida wanted to keep Lu but he was asking more than they could afford so they traded him. He stayed in Vancouver because of the contract they offered him which was the richest in the NHL at that time. HE would have goen FA if they hadn't. HIs cap hit has nothing to do with a discount but is because of the way the deal was structured. His contract is a major impediment to the team in trying to deal him because of up-front cost, NTC, length of term and now under the new CBA the penalty to the cap if he retires early. Explain how his contract was a discount? Point 3 - so is it the team mates that pay his salary? "Pump his tires"? Shout LUUUUUU? THe stick salute at the end of the game adn MG and Hank thanking all the fans after the lockout was just a smoke screen? I never said he was a bad person and his charity work is admirable. I was simply replying ot a poster who was making Lu out to be here for the love of Vancouver and the team when he is in fact here because of the $$. DIBdaQUIB
Hold on there. Why did you suddenly change everything you said earlier? 1. First you claim that luongo left the team that gave him a chance to shine in the nhl for he richest contract in Vancouver.... Then suddenly it becomes Florida trading luongo, and he chose to stay in Vancouver AFTER he's traded from Florida So which version you said is true? Cos they are two completely different situation. Luongo did NOT leave Florida for a better contract in Vancouver like you said he did. He was traded by his team when he thought they are in good term in his contract extension. 2. Luongo's contract at the time was NOT the richest contract in the nhl. He was among the top players, but its not the richest. 3. Luongo could have ask for a shorter term contract with higher cap hit when he signed that extension. Even if you take out the last two years in his contract, his average cap hit is still a little bit more than 6 million. That is a discount price for a goalie like luongo. 4. You didn't pay for his salary. The team does. What you paid for is a 60 min entertainment per game. It doesn't give you the right to become any hockey players' savior and certainly doesn't give you the entitlement that a hockey player has to thank you every single freaking game. It's also funny that you suddenly turned blind and ignore all the charity luongo HAS done for the city even at this moment. Nope, that didn't happen and I didn't type out the whole thing for you on what luongo had done for his fans. He's just a jerk who never mention the fans after games. It seems like you are just twisting facts so the argument will go in your way. Saying he's only here because of the money is darn right ridiculous. Give the Sedins 4 millions per year two seasons ago, and see if they will stay here.

twice_removed
If Luongo was playing crappy and still getting starts this would be a story but Luongo deserves to be playing right now. Someone needs to tell Schneider that this is life in Vancouver... On a good day only the crazies are demanding the back-up start. On a bad day everyone thinks the back-up is better that you. FYI... try proving yourself by starting at least 40 games in a season before you let your agent pipe off and say we should trade the work horse and put our faith in you! After all you only had 8 months to get ready for game 1...
Primus099
1) if Lu didn't "leave" Florida, then why is he not there? Florida wanted to sign him but couldn't afford what he was asking so they traded him. He was the architect of his departure. FIgure it out. 2) Lu's contract was front-end loaded making him the highest paid player in the NHL his first years at $6.7M (IIRC). Not much of a discount. 3) Lu wanted too much $$$ for Vancouver to agree to a shorter contract. The only way to get him to sign was to pay him big and the only to make that work was to go long-term. Lu may be a great team mate and a great guy but he is not here as a philanthropist and he did not take a discount to play here.

twice_removed
When you look at where the Canucks are, "the window to win", and assuming you could get more for Schneider the smart play is to keep Luongo... get an immediate asset for Schneider and go for it.
