[Discussion] Roberto Luongo Trade Thread 6.0

Recommended Posts

Nice Post... all you are saying sounds reasonable. However, were talking about the possibility of the 1st Overall Pick in the draft.... What better way for Florida to rebuild Hockey in Miami. It will be front webpage news for weeks and months about Florida picking first and all the hype of the player creating a big buzz about hockey. That is what Florida really needs. Getting Luongo does none of that. It's a story for a day or two at best. 1st Pick in the Draft is the Big story they need. ESPN LIVE coverage of that Panther jersey on the next great superstar. It's the only way to rebuild hockey in Florida and Tallon knows it.

I don't believe it is a moot point. Luongo isn't 40 years old right now and he's well worth his 5.33 million dollar contract. Did you see how much money Getzlaf just signed for with the Ducks and did you see the kind of year he had last year?

If the Devils did trade Brodeur this year to a contender, I'm sure someone would pay a high amount for him even at the age 40. Could imagine Brodeur in a Flyers jersey? What would they pay for him? a 1st?

Being real would be admitting there's no interest in Luongo by Florida. That would being be real. Being real would also be admitting a rebuilding team does not trade for expensive veterans on long term contracts while giving their prized prospects and high picks. That would also be being real. Being real would also include understanding that Schneider is a better fit in Florida as he is younger and will be playing in this league for the next decade while fitting with the future core of the Florida Panthers. That would further be being real.

What you're suggesting is as close to illusion and fantasy as it gets.

Maybe in your head its close to illusion or fantasy but the rest of us that have been watching the NHL for the past 6 years and following this saga without a blind boner for luongo, know there was interest with Florida. They also watched Florida rebuild for 6yrs and make the playoffs last year. Now we, meaning the rest of CDC that thinks your completely out to lunch, have been watching Florida crap the bed all year because their goaltending isn't quite on par with last year. They are ready to start being competitive, stop with the rebuild crap.

Do you watch tsn and sportsnet on mute? Obviously not if you seem to remember gillis asking for bjugstad and tallon saying no. Your just being selective in what your willing to acknowledge regarding luongo. Tallon didn't say no like Stevie Y. He said no to bjugstad.

Are you serious? Brodeur is 40 years old. Luongo will be 34 this year and will be 42 when his contract expires. If Brodeur can play untli 42 why can't Luongo? Luongo is still one of the most consistent goalies in the league. Players are palying for longer and are still making a difference.

Florida is not rebuilding but they need a reason for fans to watch the game. Luongo is that reason and his contract in my opinion isn't as bad as the media and people make it out to be. Luongo could get Florida to the playoffs or any other border line team.
