It definitely is difficult, especially because we only know those that we associate with. I attend a church of 3000+, and there is definitely no homosexual bashing being encouraged, promoted, or accepted. Now that doesn't mean that as Christians we agree with everybody's lifestyle, but Christ's message was never about agreeing or disagreeing, but that of acceptance and love.

You disagree with people who are tidy, well dressed and who stay in shape?

I respect that. However, you are a minority in this. The hate propaganda against gays from religions (especially in the Middle East and USA) is the main reason being gay is really seen as taboo still.

Hate from religion? It is quite easy to blame religion when it sometimes it is more than than that. How about Russia, when it was officially atheist for 75 years. Now Russians don't allow Gay Pride parades. In fact, they pass laws against so called "gay propanganda"
Or how about China, where it is an atheist state, where religion is frown against. Gay rights are not uphold there.

Gay rights rights are largely a western phenomenen. Outside of Western Europe, and North America, and parts of South America, where are gay rights upheld in the manner we are accustomed to?

I don't think religion is the issue here, it's just people trying to taint religion.

I myself don't care.

I believe that it would be much tougher to come out as gay in the NHL than in the NFL.

Say what you will about Americans and their conservative nature, but the fact is that nearly all NFL players have been to college and likely are much more exposed to a broader segment of people.

About society and what's happening to it. Things everyone knows in gut. Things everyone too scared to face, too polite to talk about. He understood. Understood man's capacity for horrors and never quit. Saw the world's black underbelly and never surrendered. Once a man has seen, he can never turn his back on it. Never pretend it doesn't exist. No matter who orders him to look the other way."

Tell me again how you actually follow the bible to a tee.

But really, good for them. Tolerance for all > Bronze age bigotry.

I was going to make a tight end joke, but in thinking about it, sexual preferences shouldn't have any place in football.
I'm not saying what is right or wrong in who someone is attracted to, just that it has zero relevance to a sporting league like the NFL.

I will keep my thoughts on homosexuality to myself, but I wonder if the teammates would want to get changed and shower in the same room as their gay teammate?

Well given that they haven't been molested by these players prior to knowing they should be ok with it don't you think?

It's not as if all of a sudden they're going to start saying "gee I wonder why Tim Tebow was always soaping me up in the shower. This news has totally come out of nowhere."

I don't have time to care about other people being gay. It's a waste of energy.

If you are not gay then you should care about homosexuals. why would you? It has no impact on you.

That is why I have always believed that people who go out of the way to hate homo are homo.

I just don't see how this has any effect on football therefore, I don't think these guys should bother coming out.

It's not anyone's business.

Exactly, that doesn't mean anything. You should be able to play without worrying about stuff like people finding out or whatever.

If the NFL lets homosexuals play professional football, that may redefine what it is to be a football player.

Where do you draw the line? Let women play? Children? Animals?

(PLEASE realize this is satire, referring to numerous Republicans using similar arguments against gay marriage)

I disagree.

Maybe you don't have the time to care about homosexuals but way too many people do. And they spend their time bullying. Most homophobes, especially high school aged males, justify their hate and bullying on the notions that they are real men and homosexuals are basically less than real men, sissies or f*gs. Non homophobic people, like myself, don't see homosexuals that way. They are equals. No less, no more.

So if gay athletes let it be known that they are such, it takes away some power from "real men" who want their athletes straight and their homosexuals designing homes or dancing or what ever stereo type they feel comfortable with.

So if a 6'5, 280lb football player that homophobes have been cheering on who maybe plays for their favorite team says he's gay, it shatters the stereotype and thus takes some power away from the bully. And it likely empowers younger homosexuals, athlete or not, to be proud of who they are.
