On to the next one.

My picks:

Metroid. Easily one of my most favourite franchises, with Super Metroid and Metroid Prime being 2 of the greatest games ever made. Top of the line gameplay, atmosphere, enemies, powerups, it's simply an incredible franchise.

Doom. FPS games wouldn't be where they are today if it weren't for Doom. The Space Marine went to hell and back more than once. He's the king of shooters.

Metal Gear. Hands down the best story in all gaming. Each game in the series is a masterpiece. Metal Gear Solid 1 is perfection and is my all time favourite game.

100px-289,1814,0,1524-Donkey_Kong_Country_%28NA%29.png

Donkey Kong. Some of the best platformers have come from this franchise. Each DKC game is fantastic, I'm so glad Nintendo finally started making these games again.Tough to vote against Pac-man, but I just like the DKC games too much to vote against them here.

Forget the rankings and start putting similar games together.

Doom vs. Wolfenstein

Mass Effects vs, Metal Gear Solid

Ideally, the final four would be eclectic from genre and era.

Someone suggested that after the first poll, so I tried putting matchups of same genre (wolfenstein vs quake, EA vs 2K sports for example) but basing the divisions on genres would've been tricky and unbalanced. Also some franchises, like Mario, could go under so many genres.

Gotta ask, where's all the Blizzard games? Although WoW is dead there's no denying how epic that game was when it was released, Starcraft (both Broodwar and SC2) were the best RTS games at the time, and in my opinion rank first and second on the list of the best RTS games (and top ten in just any type of game) of all time. And the Warcraft games were really good too, DOTA was a mod in WC3, so without Warcraft there wouldn't be any League of Legends or DOTA...

I don't know what's going on in the other divisions but I have contended from the start that the Warcraft series (including WoW) should be finalists for what it has brought to PC gaming.

Warcraft lost to Mortal Kombat I think, and I considered WoW part of the franchise. The rest either didn't get nominations or didn't have at least 3 games in the series (which was part of the criteria for making this tourney).

I think a lot of people are voting for nostalgia. Some of the older franchises may have been really influential, but just don't hold up today.

I felt that was the case with some of the divisions, though not so much for this one. Maybe Doom, but I think the games hold up pretty well, and for those who think otherwise there's always Doom 3.

All of Blizzard's games have at least three games in each series. And if you read my post then I think that I make it pretty clear why those games should be in the poll...

It was mostly a comment about the polls as a whole. I don't think the first two Doom games really hold up compared to modern shooters, though. ME2 and 3 destroy them on the basis of being shooters alone, and the shooting gameplay wasn't even the main draw of Mass Effect.

Y'all crazy if you don't include Starcraft in the discussion, that game MADE e-sports.

Quake did. SC2 just made it a bit less nerdy and made it more international. But Quake was way ahead of it. In fact, some SC2 player _just_ passed a Quake player for all time earnings, and I'm sure that Quake player hasn't touched a game in almost half a decade.

You can't vote based on which has the games that are the most impressive in 2013.

For the older games, you have to factor in what their impact was when they were modern games.

For games like doom and Red Baron, they were crazy in the 80s because that was what technology allowed.

The games today are well crafted, but most piggyback on each other's game engines. I've never played it, but I think that is what makes games like Minecraft stand out. It might not look good, but there is so much playability.
