REPORT: The Washington Capitals who have been in on going negotiations with Valtteri Filppula have reportedly dropped out the running for the veteran UFA.

"We're going in another direction with our bottom six this upcoming season" stated GM da.moose. "Val was a great contributor for us last season. We wish him the best with wherever he signs this upcoming season."

Filppula scored 33 points at the third line centre position for the Caps last season as well as three points in game six against Pittsburgh in the playoffs.

"It was a great season" Filppula said. "I still have some good hockey in me and I'm excited to prove it to a new club".

The Finnish vet could be a steal in Free agency as he has scored over 30 points in 11 consecutive seasons and is reportedly open to signing for less than the 3 million dollar deal he was on last season under the right circumstamces.
