Hope the Comets find another scoring vet to replace him and to help the kids develop down there.

Erickson is a vet...minus the scoring part but I think he would fare well in Utica and put up decent numbers. Maybe even be a player to help young guys realize what it takes to find success at the highest level. He was a very good player for most of his career. Now he is serviceable, just not a 6 mill player.

With this as an option, a younger roster player such as Macewan could actually continue his development at the NHL level and not have to sit out so much. Removing Erickson would allow for the growth of some of our prospects poised to become NHL regulars in a bottom 6 role.

The main problem's always been the cap though, unless he was willing to walk and took an obvious pay cut to re-sign for the Comets it just doesn't make sense that he'd go down to ride the bus for cheap.  How much does a demotion even save us for Loui?  Of course we'd like to see MacEwen get more playing time but it looks like his minor league cap is still pretty hefty.  (Looks like it's only $1-$2 million so I don't see how he can be the mentor guy down there.)

He will do great in the KHL. It’s a shame he could never put it all together at the NHL level. A loyal guy, played well, taught the younger guys and if he did ever complain it never made it to the media (a rare occurrence around here it seems). All the best to him and his family. Hope he lights it up and gets a bigger raise the next year.
