(Article)NHL goalie rankings: Is Luongo still elite?
Plum replied to naslund.is.king's topic in Canucks Talk
Broduer isn't elite, he hasn't been since he hit 35 years of age. But he is probably the best goalie to ever play goalie. Anyways, I think Luongo isn't elite anymore but if he has a good bounce back year I would still consider him a starting/good goaltender. He isn't in the same class as Lundqvist, Quick, everybody knows this but it seems that some of your homerism is getting infront of the reality. -

A 1-2-2 is one forward deep in their zone creating turnovers to the other 2 forwards around the blue line and the 2 defensemens are at the netural zone. Look at it has if we are going <<<< then it should make more sense for you. Make sure you know what you're talking about. -
My team are the Eagles . Don't expect much from them though.

You can believe what you want to believe but that stats are infront of you, and you also have no idea who wrote that blog and neither do I. So you're assuming again. What does leaving your 1 dmen back? Wtf are you talking about? Who said leaving your dmen back is how you score goals?? Being top in faceoffs look who we had Sedin,Kesler,Pahlsson,Malhothra,Lapierre. Of course we were going to win faceoffs, and how does faceoff relate to anything? You make no sense in what you just posted, i'm talking about how we play a defensive style of game. And the PP, AV wasn't in control of the PP, Newell Brown was so you are wrong again. And how does our mindset change when we are on the PP, we still try to score on the PP like every other offensive chance. Shots, anybody could take a weak wrister and hit Lu's pads. So I guess we were not defensive first because we let shots through. Anybody could take a weak wrister that doesn't matter. If you let a guy in a breakway and Lu saves a shot that's different. -

I just gave you a blog of how we were defensive first and now you're saying that doesn't mean anything? You are so clueless of what you are saying. Having puck possession doesn't necessarily mean you are a offensive first team... In the year 2010-2011, we were first against goals against average. Shots mean nothing, goals do. I'm starting to wonder if you know what you're talking about. I guess if we let in 50 shots a game from center ice we aren't good enough defensively? Goals matter not shots. Luongo isn't elite anymore I don't know what makes you think he is. -

Game 3 didn't lose us the series though. It looked like we tried to play defense. Just we didn't play good enough, my argument is that Luongo isn't elite anymore not that we lost that game because of him. -

Negatives: I think most of you are aware I didn’t agree with many of the complaints a certain segment of this fan base had against John Tortorella. What’s interesting though is most seem unaware many of their complaints were quite similar to the ones Canucks fans had for Alain. For example, many argued Tortorella over relied on Dan Girardi and Ryan McDonagh and that he gave those two way too many minutes. However, during this year’s playoffs Girardi and McD played 25:58 and 25:52 per game respectively, while Kevin Bieksa played 25:50 per game and Alex Elder played 26:57. After my post about why coaches frequently line juggle, our readers seemed to stop complaining about Torts’ propensity to do so. Still, you should know that other than the top line of the Sedin twins and Burrows, Alain didn’t keep any lines togethermore than 5% of the time at even strength this season. Meanwhile, other than the Hags-Stepan-Cally line, Torts actually kept three line combos together at a frequency above 5%. So this notion that Alain doesn’t tweak his lines with great frequency is pretty unfounded. According to some, Alain is going to be a godsend for Kreider and JT Miller, who Tortorella supposedly FUBAR’d. Ask Canuckleheads who’s to blame for Cody Hodgson being shipped out of town. Compare how many times 1st round pick Jordan Schroeder had been bounced back and forth to the AHL vs. Kreider. Alain’s recent history of dealing with rookies may not be up to some fans’ expectations. Then of course there’s the whole “defense first” complaint, and how being good on the defensive side of the puck somehow suffocates a team’s ability to produce offense. Well, Alain Vigneault ran a 1-2-2 forecheck and would drop guys back to trap up the neutral zone with a lead. This strategy is actually what gave man birth to the term “defense first,” not shot blocking. I’m not sure how well a return to Renney-era hockey is going to go over with this crowd. http://www.blueseatblogs.com/2013/06/17/positives-and-negatives-of-rangers-new-coach-alain-vigneault/ Why are you comparing Thomas to Luongo? I never said Thomas was elite. Your post is mostly wrong since you're assuming that AV played an offensive type of game. Defense transforms into offense and when that transition happened we scored. That is why we were top scoring team that year. -

See here is something that hasn't been mentioned. AV plays a defense first game. Now think about why we didn't win games, we played a defense first game, right? So why did we allow 23 goals in 7 games? You can't say our offense didn't score if our goalie didn't keep us in the game. What an elite does is keep his team in the game and lets in about 1-3 goals in average. Luongo did not do that. Are you going to say our defense wasn't good enough? -
If Riders get home advantage that makes a huge difference for their games also.

I don't hate Luongo, but he isn't elite i'm telling you, Schneider has been an all star goalie until he came into the playoffs where he looked very uncomfortable. For example the GWG when the puck was beside him, you could tell he was in some discomfort otherwise he would have poked or kicked it away. You have to face the facts he isn't elite anymore, sometimes he can be great but he is streaky. I don't put him in the same class as: Quick, Lundqvist, Rinne. -
How are the Riders winning? When they face the Lions their face will get smashed in. Not even a good team, Sheets is carrying them, and when they face the Lions the Lions will stop the run which they have done to Cornish.

BC forgot how to play defense?

We are playing like crap.

Schneider has proven he is capable of being a starting goaltender. He will be the starting goaltender for the NJ Devils. Schneider is a top 15 goalie in the NHL. Luongo is not a legend. -

He isn't elite anymore. But he is still a great starting goaltender. -
Hamilton, Montreal, Edmonton all suck.

I don't know how Riders are winning but they won't win the Grey Cup.

Really? Come on.
