  1. Miller - Pettersson - Toffoli Pearson - Horvat - Eriksson Virtanen - Gaudette - MacEwen Motte - Beagle - Sutter Roussel Give Roussel a break. He was our biggest liability besides goaltending on the road trip. He had a really strong season last year but his knee injury might have ended his prime.. he doesn't seem to win puck battles, takes stupid penalties and also doesn't fight/scare anyone. Give our third line a new look. Virtanen on his off wing with Gaudette and MacEwen. They can all score, fight, skate and hit hard (besides Gaudette). They will struggle a bit defensively but with the right match-ups this line will do damage. I could seem them growing into a pretty mean line to play against. Once Boeser is back Eriksson sits and Toffoli slides to the second line with Horvat and Pearson.
  2. A second round pick and a good prospect for any team to take Baer?? He is not Loui Eriksson.. he only has 1 more year left and his cap is only 2.2 (when in the AHL) ... plus there is still the chance that he could actually play in the NHL for a while and his concussion issues seem to be gone Also Simmonds is no Toffoli. I don't think his value is that high But I agree we should not give up more to get Simmonds, rather keep going with what we have but if we could get Simmonds for a third, Chatfield and dump Baertschi at the same time please do it!
  3. Baertschi, Chatfield, 2020 5th round pick for Simmonds, 2020 7th round pick Sign Tryamkin please
  4. I hope we stay put unless there are some trades that make sense: - Simmonds 40% retained for Schaller, Baertschi and a 2nd - Sign Tryamkin after the TDL with the cap savings from the trade above After TDL: Miller - Pettersson - Virtanen Pearson - Horvat - Boeser (MacEwan/Eriksson as long as Boeser is out) Simmonds - Gaudette - Sutter Roussel - Beagle - Motte Depth: Leivo, MacEwan, Eriksson, Bailey, (Ferland LTIR) Hughes - Tanev Edler - Myers Tryamkin - Stecher Fantenberg -Benn
  5. Wayne Simmonds for Loui Eriksson (1 million retained), Tim Schaller, 2020 2nd round pick, 2020 6th round pick, Jalen Chatfield
  6. I also think a lot of people on here are scared about the expansion draft. But I don't think there is a reason to be concerned. Let's have a look: Exempt: Hughes, Woo, Tryamkin, DiPietro, Eliot, Kielly, Silvos Goalies: Protect either Markstrom or Demko, Expose rest At the draft Markstrom will be 31.5 years old while Demko will be 25.5 years old. So far Demko has only played 26 NHL games in his entire career, Sv% like .906 total. He had concussion issues already too. I think at the expansion draft we will have a much clearer picture of who to protect and who to expose, also considering the cap as well. Defense: Protect: Tanev, Juolevi, Stecher If we acquire another Dman that needs protection or Myers or one of our other prospects is lightning it up we leave Stecher unprotected. Edler can re-sign after the draft if he wants to stay here. Unprotected: Myers (31 years old, 3 years on 6 mill) and the likes of Fantenberg, Brisebois, Rafferty, Chatfield, Sautner, Teves Forwards to protect 100%: Pettersson, Horvat, Boeser, Miller Then most likely as of now Virtanen and Gaudette Leaves 1 spot between: Motte, Leivo, Ferland (if he actually gets healthy again), Lind or a top 6 that we trade for. As of now I would protect Motte as I think he would get picked up and he hasn't reached his offensive ceiling yet, is great defensively and on the PK and has the highest energy level. We need a player like that on our roster.. That leaves following players unprotected/without contract: Leivo, Lind, Sutter, Pearson, Ferland, Roussel, Beagle, MacEwen, Boucher, Palmu, Gadjovich and a few others No idea who they would pick but I think it would be between Demko, Myers, Leivo, Pearson, Ferland, Roussel, Lind What do you guys think?
  7. I think its only a 15 Team modified NTC next starting next year..
  8. I might have figured out how to get rid of LE! Some think there is an agreement that he will retire or go back to Sweden and terminate his contract after this year.. I also hope so but it seems more like a dream than reality. So here's what I propose: we keep LE this year and just carry his cap as we should be fine this year anyway with Ferland on LTIR.. Next year we pay him his signing bonus of 3 mil. in July 2020. After that there is only a signing bonus of 1 mil. and a total salary of 4 mil. left.. so that's 5 million in total. Then we trade him to Ottawa for Marian Gaborik who will be on the last year of a 4,875 mil. contract (3,075 mil. salary) To make the deal work we need to add some B-prospect and a mid round pick To OTT: Loui Eriksson, one of Nikolay Goldobin/ Reid Boucher/ Ashton Sautner/ Lukas Jasek/ Jake Kielly and a 2021 3rd round pick To Van: Marian Gaborik and a 2021 7th round pick Why Van does this: I expect Baertschi to be gone/waivers whatever and Schaller probably won't be resigned. That's roughly 4 million in cap savings but we have to give a raise to Markstrom +2, Tanev +0,5 Virtanen +1, Leivo +1 and some others +0,5 which is around 5 million in total that we need to maintain our roster. Because of the cheaper contract of Gaborik we would be able to sign all of our current roster next year. And then of course the biggest reason, Gaboriks contract will be up after next year and that's when we need to sign Hughes AND Pettersson. There is no way we can still have Louis contract at this point. Why Ott does this: They are in a rebuild and might wanna take a chance on one of our prospects and they get an additional pick. It doesn't hurt Ott to carry LE cap 1 more year than Gaborik's and even the salary is not way much higher. If I would be Ottawa and in a rebuild I would do that for sure, getting 2 assets for something that doesn't really hurt them. What do you guys think, could be possible? Is it a fair deal in your opinion?
  9. No, I love it! Just please keep this lines together for more than 1 period.. otherwise I will have to complain again haha
  10. I wish I never went on page 17, I think I can’t delete this gross gif from my memory haha
  11. Fixed that for CDC! But let's be honest, I kinda agree that he has looked like he doesn't hurt the team and played his "role".. but the truth is there is no more energy at all on the 4th line since Loui is back in there.. and all the close games we lost, I think we actually would've won a couple of those if Motte was playing. The energy and wear down as well as shutdown capability of the Schaller-Beagle-Motte line is underrated af! I much rather see MacEwan get a shot with Schaller and Beagle to see if they can provide some energy than play it "safe" with very little things LE
  12. I don't expect him to be finished. Still a good goalie just not as good as now or Demko will be at that point. I would give him the term so that Seattle might not want him, then if we wouldn't need him anymore in 3-5 years we can still move him for a 4th..
  13. If Markstrom keeps playing like this then I would sign him to a 6 years 5.5-6.0 AAV deal (NTC if necessary but no NMC so he could be left unprotected at the expansion Draft) at the end of this season. Next year we play with both Markstrom and Demko and might have the best goalie tandem in the league.. Markstrom in his absolute prime and a more experienced Demko. Then we sign Demko to a similar deal like Markstrom's current deal, something like 2-3 years with 2.5-3.5 AAV. I think as a RFA, and especially if he stays a backup the next 2 years, he can't really demand much more even if he plays stellar in the next 2 years. At the expansion draft we protect Demko and expose Markstrom. Why? Markstom will be almost 32 and he will most likely only have 1 or 2 seasons left at top level. He may still be the better goalie in the 21/22 season but after that it will be Demko for sure. It will also free up 6 million in cap which we need for Pettersson/Hughes. Another reason why I would expose Markstrom is to keep all of our forwards and defensemen, I'm pretty sure we would need to expose a player we would not want to lose. And we need to keep our depth. To find a backup goalie shouldn't be that hard or maybe Dipietro will be ready for NHL backup duties. If a team would offer us a good deal for Markstrom before the expansion draft but after the 20/21 season ended (I want Markstrom for the next 2 years as our starter).. something like a mid first round pick then I would do it and hope they take Myers and his 6 million.
  14. Not posting on here often but this decision and the Benning interview made me.. I am actually a huge GMJB supporter but waiving Baertschi??AND keeping both Schaller and Eriksson??? There have been 2 moves that Benning made so far which made me rage: 1. The Kassian trade 2. The Lack trade (even though it was a very good move, I know that, I was just in love with Eddie haha) And now putting Baertschi on waivers.. the good thing is all of these moves are minor moves and he has done so well apart from that, so Im still a huge supporter. Here is why it was a bad move: Sven would have given our Lineup much more flexibility and a 3rd line that can actually score. Plus Sven was one of our best Powerplay guys ever since he joined the Canucks and now Benning is saying there is no spot on the PP for him? That is actually ridiculous, he is the perfect 3rd liner PP specialist in my opinion. Also it appears that Gaudette will stay up and we could have had these 3rd lines: Baertschi - Gaudette - Leivo strong offense but maybe a bit weak on D but not a liability, they would outscore their opponents Baertschi - Gaudette - Virtanen same Baertschi - Sutter - Gaudette more balanced and still strong offense if Sutter doesn't suck all of it out Also as mentioned before we could match up by switching Sven and Pearson to make the 3rd line more stable while still maintaining a great second line with Baertschi, Horvat, Miller. The reasons so far are based on talent, now lets have a look at value comparing him to the other waiver candidates: Horvat, Pettersson, Miller, Ferland, Boeser, Pearson, Roussel we don't need to talk about. Sutter is also valuable to us. - Virtanen is still young and has a lot of upside even though he gets me frustrated at times. He's a keeper for this year for sure but if there is no improvement and he comes out of shape to the next camp, then I think he has to go too unless he's a 20+ goal scorer. He would get picked up 100% though this year so we simply cannot afford to put him on waivers. - Leivo I like him and he deserves to stay up but the only edge he has on Sven is health. Leivo would get claimed 100% too - Beagle I think we need him but honestly he is expendable in my eyes.. he is an older, slightly worse version of Sutter and we have Gaudette.. its definetly getting tight for either Sutter or Beagle but they are both still needed this year but next year I hope we move on from Beagle. Also no one would claim him at his current age and contract?! - Motte no way I would waive Motte! He brings it every night, he is a perfect 4th liner on a low cap, is still young and might even improve on the offensive end, can kill penalties. Also he is a role model for putting in all your effort. To all the People who want him on waivers, just watch him play and you know why he's a lock on our 4th line and PK. - Eriksson ... man oh man.. I would have given him a chance if he came to camp, show that he wants to be here, put in at least 50% of Motte's effort but he didn't. So let him rott in the press box and then waive him once Roussel is back? If thats the plan for Loui then Im ok with it but I can't stand him on the team anymore. Not to mention he would have never ever been claimed which sucks in this case. And if you want a 4th line player then call up MacEwen and send him down once Roussel is back. But most likely losing Baertschi if it would be so easy to avoid sucks.. - Schaller he is basically as useless as Eriksson but his cap is less than a third and he definitely deserves another chance over Eriksson. I could at least see him as a somehow useful 4th liner if he could get some chemistry but his time with us will be limited as we have a lot of better options for that spot. Also no one would claim him, so again bad asset managment, you have to waive at least one guy who doesn't get claimed for sure and could be called up instead of risking to lose both Baertschi and Goldobin.. Also not happy about Biega being waived.. really hope he clears, he's the perfect 7-8 Dman who can overperform for a couple of games and even score some goals here and there. Not to mention great attitude. I don't know anything about Fantenberg but I know Biega and thats reason enough for me to keep him. Hope Fantenberg proves me wrong. And yes Goldobin, he has more value than some of the players we didn't waive but there was no other choice here. It was do or die for him last year and he failed, there is just no room for him at all. If he clears and plays 20+ minutes in the AHL, getting confidence and scoring a lot then maybe maybe he might get one last chance when injuries happen. Or at least his trade value might go up a bit once he cleared. All of this and especially what JB is saying in the interview makes no sense to me ("we have better players" - no we don't!) It actually makes me think that Baertschi maybe wants to go on IR for the rest of his contract and then retire and therefore Benning puts him on waivers so that Aquaman doesn't have to keep paying him... like think about it there was no word of concussion issues or whatsoever. If I would be the GM and would want to keep Sven (even if its in the Minors) I would say that putting him on waivers is health related and then hope other Gms stay away. Maybe its also for the cap but they really wanna get rid of him.. I am not concerned about Benning at all but I am starting to get concerned about Green. If we are playing .500 hockey or below after 25-35 games I want him gone and see what an experienced coach could do with this team. I really dislike this top 6 bottom 6 idea. There should be a top 9 plus a matchup shutdown 4th line (like the Sutter Dorsett line which I think was pretty effective) .. we could do Motte - Beagle - Sutter or Roussel - Sutter - Motte. Lineup that I wanted: Ferland - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Miller Motte - Beagle - Sutter (shutdown line) Roussel - Sutter - Motte once Roussel is back Baertschi - Gaudette - Virtanen/Leivo (more ozone starts and sheltered minutes) Leivo/Virtanen Beagle (Schaller until Roussel is back then waive him) Edler - Stecher Hughes - Myers Benn - Tanev (hopefully keeps Tanev more healthy and he could take some of Stechers shifts if we need to protect a lead) Biega Waive: Eriksson, Goldobin, Fantenberg Lineup with available players now: Ferland - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Miller Leivo - Gaudette - Sutter (Sutter takes the Faceoffs) Motte - Beagle - Virtanen Schaller Eriksson (Leivo, Virtanen or Beagle out when Roussel is back depending on performance) D same except Fantenberg for Biega.. I really like the first Lineup much more than the second one..
