His rookie/Calder season.  This was back when the Sabres were a decent team.

If he gets anywhere close to his production during his rookie season, this would be a steal of a signing. But he hasn't put up that kind of number since then, so I doubt it. I still think adding Myers is a solid acquisition none the less.

  2. To Jeff Pattersson,

I don't consider Myers an overpayment. In fact, I am surprised at the UFA market, the Canucks can get a big RHD who can skate and put up decent points at $6 million per. With the cap space increasing each year, this contract is just going to be fine even down the road. Myers bring in an aspect of the game that the Canucks lack of. For a UFA at the age of 29, you can't expect him to sign a 2-3 year deal because this contract is likely the last big contract he is going to sign.

From watching highlights from previous years, Myers seems to have good offensive awareness as well, he just been playing behind both Byfuglien and Trouba during his Winnipeg days, I could see the Canucks give him more opportunity to attack and his points total could potentially increase.

He is only sign for 5 years not the 7 years we were expeting. The $6 million cap hit is about the UFA market value for a player his calibre.

The only way this contract is going to suck is if he comes in and decline immediately like Eriksson did, then this will be a disaster. Atleast, let this player prove himself in a Canucks jersey before criticising him.

  3. Worthy of note is that the wait time for him could be similar to Boeser. Boeser was drafted in 2015, and joined the team at the end of the 2016-2017 seasons and then made the team fulltime for the 2017-18 seasons. The KHL season starts earlier than the NHL season and even the teams who made it to the finals will end their seasons sometime in mid-April. Most KHL teams end their season sometime in March. Pod could come here immedatiately after his KHL season ends. If we are lucky, by the 2021, we could land ourselves a late season addition to help us win some games in the playoffs.

I also don't know, but they did have a better record than we did last year.

Would you rather have our core players made up of: Pettersson, Horvat, Boeser, Hughes and Demko or the Coyotes core made up of Keller, Chychrun, Schmaltz, Hayton and Kemper?

I personally would give the Canucks core an edge slightly. I also didn’t include the 1st round picks of the most recent draft classes.

Reason the Coyotes had a better record than us was that their experienced players out performed our experienced players. They were a better all around team than the Canucks last season. Hence it goes back to the comment JB made in an interview that teams win with core players age 26-35. Most of our 26-35 players from last season were mediocre at best. There was a significant scoring drop off after Bo, Boeser and EP on the team. There simply wasn’t enough support for our talented young players last season. With Miller acquisition and the last season’s late addition of Pearson (hope he can keep pace with his late season surge), the team hopefully can start to have 2 scoring lines and things will hopefully take a positive turn from here.

Going to be hard to get one done with the way things are shaping out as a whole for the RFA market.  Today Chuck Fletcher the GM of the Flyers basically said its a waiting game because all the GM's are looking at each other wanting to see who sets the market for the RFA's.

No one wants to set the precedent because they want to be able to sign players to much more friendlier contracts for the team.

I think its going to take some time for the whole market in general

I am hoping that with Auston Matthews already extended, other players should look at him as a bench mark. I am hoping we can get Brock for 6 years at $7.5 per. But 2 years down the road when we have both EP and Hughes to sign, that year would be a major year. And I really don’t want Lucic and his bad contract here for this very reason.

  6. I don’t live in Vancouver (live in Victoria), definitely can’t attend the majority of the games. Is it worthy of season ticket investment? How likely is it for me to be able to sell the tickets I can’t attend? I am thinking of something along the lines of Upperbowl center ice.

I'm curious to know if they had Svechnikov or Tkachuk at 2. Svechnikov was definitely the consensus, but I really felt like the Canucks loved Brady. I was so confident the Canucks were taking Hughes if he was there at 7, unless Tkachuk also fell, then I thought it was a coin flip.

Just a hunch, my guess of JB’s list of the top 7 picks base on what he said in the interview right after last year’s draft and also the video above. He did mention that the top 7 players that got picked is the top 7 players he has on his list, just in a different order. And we know he has Quinn Hughes at 3:

1). Rasmus Dahlin - consensus #1, absolutely no doubt

2). Jesperi Kotkaniemi - best center in the draft, and plays a strong 2-way game, a hunch tells me he is the kind of player JB will want on the team to solidify the cantering depth. Remember, as of last June, the organization was still hoping EP could be a top line center, he was view as someone who will start on the wing and eventually transition himself to the center position. JB would want to make sure there is another legitimate Center-man to form a 1-2 punch with Horvat, therefore my guess Kotkaniemi at 2 instead of Svechnikov.

3). Quinn Hughes - as said in the video they had him at third and was ecstatic when he was available at #7.

4). Brady Tkachuk - Tough, hardnose, physical player with great skill, who could become a Center one day. Definitely have him high on their list and I feel like JB and the co isn’t super high on Svechnikov (just a hunch).

5). Andrej Svechnikov - for some reason, I don’t feel like the Canucks would be very high on him (atleast I wasn’t, because last year I didn’t want the Canucks end up at #2 after the lottery). I see him as more of a Rick Nash (don’t get me wrong, a very good player), but there are going to be better players in this draft class (top center and top d-man are harder to come by) than he will be when they all reach their prime. He was ranked high in most rankings because of his NHL ready body and able to step in and contribute right way. Personally, I was not high on him, and I don’t think the Canucks were as well (just a hunch).

6). Filip Zadina - I think the Canucks would still have Zadina behind Svechnikov on their list. But I do believe the Canucks have Zadina ranked higher than Hayton.

7). Barrett Hayton - now imagine if the first 6 players are gone and at #7 the Canucks select Hayton instead of Boqvist, Wahlstrom, Bouchard or Dobson, what the reaction of this pick would be like on CDC.

  8. If Edler is serious about wanting to stay in Vancouver, it is best for him to just sign a contract right now. I don’t think any other team is willing to give him a NTC/NMC with the knowledge of Seattle expansion draft coming up. My guess is Edler probably wants to test the Free Agent market on July 1st and see if any other team is willing to give him this NTC/NMC, and if no body is willing to give him that, he will sign with the Canucks again. However, by then, the Canucks probably had made alternative plans and that likely will be a plan without him. We will see what he decides. I am ok with signing him for 2-year with NTC with lower cap hit (which make his contract running out right at the expansion draft and it will be pointless for Seattle to draft a Pending UFA). If we want to sign him for anything longer than that, there must be no NMC/NTC attached to him.

    Seriously?

Not to descredit Jack or anything, but if Quinn becomes a dominant #1 D man and Jack doesn’t become a #1 Center and be a #1 winger instead, we may have a case because #1 D man are harder to come by instead of #1 wingers. Odds still say Jack will probably be a better player, but you never know. I am happy with Quinn and I also hope Jack has a good career as well.
