Realistically, aren't we are now at the point many were saying we had to at least be by Christmas to have a chance at the playoffs? 500.

    That’s what they say.

I have to wonder about our recent change in player development philosophy has made a difference as well?

To start the year we had Rathbone, Podz, Hogz all trying to get into the line up.

Recently all have been sent down to work on their game and now we have called up a bunch of journeymen vets, all proven to be solid pros…Dries, Pederson, Delia, etc.

It’s a small sample size so far but last nights game was one of the best “team” games i’ve seen all year. But I think that’s what you should expect when you have a line up filled with guys who have grinded it out to make a living in the AHL/NHL. Pros are easy to coach.

I wouldn’t mind keeping all the youngsters in Abby for the rest of the season. Let them develop together and when they are ready bring them back up. We honestly should have done this sooner.

Sorry to my lady but I’m taking this one to CDC for a vote! (Please help me win an argument…for the first time ever CDC…)

Agreed.  He sure plays bigger than I thought he might.

Yes for sure! Way grittier than I could have imagined. He’s been great on the farm this year. Very defensively sound. Excited to see what he can do in the NHL.

Has he played any C or is he a permanent RW?

He has mostly played wing all year. Has taken some draws, but only because the center was tossed out of the circle. It would be a solid addition to his tool kit if he becomes proficient at center…but I doubt it. They tried him at C over in Europe too but he was always moved back to wing.

IS is o me o for those things where the car is actually on a flatbed and Myers is only pretending to be driving?  Because really this is not safe.  Drivers need to be focused on driving and not recording a conversation.  Thumbs down for safety.

It’s a dash cam so they aren’t holding the camera. Just two dudes talking in the car basically, no different than anyone else who drives…do they have dash cams for scooters?? I’d pay to watch yours alf…I could only imagine what you get up to during a regular day ^_^

By the way, I got a kick out if you the other day ragging on that “john tavares” character on here lol. Never change!

Go Canucks! Don’t care if we win, just want to see some effort tonight. Missing Petey has deflated this team.

Byram needs a new contract this summer...

With our luck Byram will follow in the paths of Sutter, Tanev, Salo, Booth, etc…great players but when they got traded/signed in Vancouver they just could not shake the injury bug!

….although maybe it will be a reverse luck kinda thing!? Since Byram is always injured already maybe he joins our team and starts staying healthy…Wouldn’t that be nice for a change.

All jokes aside, I would not be willing to give up much for Byram. As good as he is, he just can’t seem to stay healthy. I feel for the kid because he has the chops and has proven when he does play he can make a difference on the ice.

Let Cull take them the rest of the way this season, imo.  Then look for a coach in the off season

I’m a Cull fan, people may rag on him for our lack lustre farm team success…but I applaud him. He has kept our farm team competitive every year while given nothing talent wise. He had to convert Jasek and Lind to centermen because Benning for whatever reason never signed enough for the team. I remember the last season in Utica Cull actually said in an interview that he would “sure love a few more guys who could play center, but we’ll make due with what we have”…I always seen that as a shot to upper management.

Anyways, he gets the most out of every roster I’ve ever seen him play with…so why the hell not give him this team to see what he can do with it.

I think a lot of that comes down to goaltending……..first with a diminished Demko and now with Martina as the starter.

The second Demko went down, this team was done

Lol Martina..was that on purpose? For sure, our goaltending has not saved us this season. I don’t blame them either. Our team plays like crap in front of them. Unfortunately Demkosvsurgery put him behind, Martin has done ok, but he lets some soft ones in. He’s a good team guy and back up, but sure does not seem cut out for a starting role, Teams are learning his weak spots quickly and are shooting at his high glove side and low blocker side on him all game long now…lots of those are going in even when he sees the shot.

Honestly, this is a good thing.

Get our young players away from the fire for a while. Let them form bonds in the AHL for the rest of the season. It will pay off in the long run to keep them away from this mess…

Just role out vets, make trades, clear out some cap for the rest of the season. It’s the best course of action.

I think we can all now accept the loss of Horvat…yes he is having a monster season…but thar monster sure goes away quickly when Petey is off the roster…seems to me Bo benefits a lot from opposing teams focusing their efforts on Petey instead of him. Cause I sure haven’t noticed him the last 2 games.

I really like him with Lazar and Bo for that reason. Big guys. 2 of them will hit you

Agree, I just wish we could spread our talent out better. JT has shown he can be good at the dot and having him on another line would really help us out. This year however he hasn’t been winning as much, not sure what’s up there. Others have proposed injury, which does seem plausible.

I love that Miller can generate so much between “inferior” players

that’s a big part of his value in my opinion

I wanna see Miller return to his “wrecking ball” ways and cause chaos, it’s what he’s good at. You put him in between some wingers that can cover for him and grind with him. Boom magic happens. All i’m sayin

    I disagree

he posted 99 points as a Center between… wait for it… PEARSON and Garland/Boeser

This is actually a good point. I feel like if Miller will be more successful at center if he has a guy like Pearson (or even podz) on his wing to take care of the defensive side of things. At the end if last season we saw a line of Podz, Miller, and Chaisson…that line absolutely dominated. I would love to see a power forward line with Miller as center. I feel like Dakota Joshua could be a guy who could mesh very well with Miller.

Yeah, he's more or less Petey-like as a centre.  Except I don't think he is as good defensively.  You're probably right, as a winger, Barzal would be exceptional.  As a centre, he has some serious shortcomings.  You do wonder what a guy like Horvat could bring to a playmaker like Barzal on the wing.

Definitely, they don’t use him as a match up guy. He gets plush o zone minutes. Petey is way more reliable than him, but for sure similar in the face off department.

Barzal has had some ok seasons in the past taking draws, but this year for whatever reason he has fallen off a cliff % wise so they just stopped using him for taking draws.

Why would NYI give up their recently extended C1 for a rental.   Management doesn't want to give teams permission to talk to his camp about an extension per Drance/Dhaliwal.

I think Lou wants to get Barzal a good center to play with, cause he’s absolutely garbage at draws…31 % this year and is very rarely used in face offs. Not reliable. He is absolute gold as a scoring forward. He plays center but needs a guy to take face offs for him. Would be interesting to see what Lou would pay for Horvats services.

Rasmussen from the Wings - solid 3C, big and skates. Fills a C need when Horvat is gone (allows Horvat to be dealt for picks or stud D man)

That’s a perfect target for us. However cap wise it may be hard for them to balance this trade out. The one other guy I think of is Dvorak in Montreal. He has played 2 c before and is a solid 3 c. He is around 4.5 mil in cap compared to Boesers 6.6 but Montreal has decent cap space. Both are signed for 3 seasons, including this one.

Dvorak has established himself more than Rasmussen but the one thing I keep thinking on with Rasmussen is you could possibly add in Zadina as both haven’t panned out how they hoped. Both players cap would be around 3 mil which would then fit for Detroit cap wise. Boeser is still a 50-60 point player I hope we don’t just trade him for chump change.

Anyways interesting idea. I like it better than the other one that was mentioned earlier which was a swap for Mantha in Washington. That guy not a fit for this team. We need center depth, like you said in case Horvat does get traded.

  15. 5 minutes ago, Elias Pettersson said:

So you think BO is now a 60 goal scorer?  Weren't we all talking about this last year with Miller and how it was unsustainable that he scores 99 points?  Now BO is doing the same thing and he has "better wingers", so now he's going to be a regular 60 goal man.  I don't think so.  But if we can sucker even one team in the NHL to believe that then hopefully we can get a major haul for BO at the TDL...

I think we all can agree this current roster needs a change of direction, points come and go for any forward, but if you want to make the largest possible impact without carving your entire roster up, then you trade Bo. Not every day the captain for an NHL club gets moved or is even available for trade. I love what he has been doing this year, but it’s time for a change and this will definitely make the most impact on our roster. Everyone else we have to get creative to trade, Boeser, Garland, Myers…I hate the idea of trading these guys purely for cap space and very little return when you can trade Bo and potentially round out your roster issues in one stroke. If we got a decent 2/3 C back and a good RD defensive prospect plus some picks I think it’s a big win. And that’s not a crazy out of the ball park ask for a player like Bo.

Id rather have eriksson at 6M than Myers/Stillman. At least he was solid defensively for us and a huge part of our PK

At least all the little details would have been covered…all joking aside, it’s very true.

This team can not seem to clean up any of the little things that matter in a game…you add all those missed assignments, lost puck battles, giving up early, trying to be too pretty instead of making the safe and sure play…it all adds up to this…bloody chaos.

At no point does this team assert itself into a game and let the other team know their in for a tough one. We are so easy to discourage, we are so easy to play against…minus Schenn, he is the only beating pulse out there…i’ll give props to Petey, but the poor guy is in over his head right now, he needs some heavyness on his wing to help him out in those battles.

In the AHL Bone could use his superior skating to cover for mistakes in his thinking.  It’s not so easy in the NHL to do that.  Bone needs to think the game faster, especially without the puck.

That's something that can only be taught on the ice. This is a sink or swim year for him but they need to give him a fair chance I think. But with our team doing so well and pushing for a playoff spot he is definitely not going to see much ice time at all. He at least seems to be keeping a decent attitude about it, he obviously knows he needs work and needs to show his coaches he is learning and can be trusted.

You are right now, he doesn't process things quick enough yet. There are several plays where he tries to pinch in the O zone and gets picked off or out smarted because he just didn't see how the opposing players were defending him. Not sure if that's gonna click, maybe it won't. I'd still like to see him get some more games in to work these kinks out...but i'm not holding my breath it will be any time soon unless we get a bunch of injuries on the back end.

He's a good kid, I wishing him luck.
