Since when re Larkin?  He's from Michigan and has always said he wants to stay there.

Friedman in his 32 Thoughts:  Dylan Larkin had a good line about what fellow All-Stars were saying to him in Florida: “Guys are asking why it hasn’t got done yet, stuff like that.” That tells you what you need to know, that his peers believe Larkin when he says he wants to be a Red Wing.

I did not see that. Interesting. Everything is speculation. And what I had read and heard before the All Star break was they were having troubles re signing him and Steve Y playing his usual hardball tactics. So there is a lot of questions marks whether they get a deal done in time or not. I agree he is a home town kid and they have a leg up on retaining him, but that's pretty gutsy for a rebuilding team to just let him walk to free agency with no contract. That's a big risk.

Who knows tho, maybe he does the rare trade to a contender then sign back with his home town team again?? Crazier things have happened.

I've taken a deep dive analysis into these spreadsheets and what I've ascertained is that this defense is f**king garbage.

It does have an elite left-handed puck mover (Hughes), a brutalizing third pairing veteran (Schenn), and a solid 5-6 (Bear), but the rest reminds me of those bargain bins they had at A & B Sound where CDs were $5.

I loved A & B sound back in the day...I abused the shit out of how many albums you were allowed to listen to before buying haha

Digital music is handy, but it's got no damn soul!

Larkin is a lot better player than Bo, so he should return more. But even so, I’d be surprised if he does. Going to be hard for Larkin, as a pure rental to a top club, to get a prospect as good as Raty, and as high a first, and a player (Beau) who is better than Larkin, like Beau is better than Bo.

Agree, we definitely found a good trade and fit for our club. The deal makes a lot of sense for us.

It does sound like Larkin wants to test free agency so that could diminish the return for sure.

Most definitely not. The knock on Beau over his career so far is that he's a streaky player. He's streaking right now, let's see if we can keep it up.

He definitely is streaky. But I also think he wasn't a good fit on the islanders. He had a couple good seasons to start but then Lou Lam showed up and tightened his grip on them with his defence first approach. Which obviously worked well for him in the New Jersey Devils years...but the game is so much different now. I think Lou has crippled the islanders. Barzal has a leash on him too (was way more effective and creative before Lou). So I think a lot of players on the island could see a boost if they were traded to a team that lets you play offence a bitmore. And also players who come to the island could see a drop in  their production...cough cough Bo...time will tell.

I don't think AB will continue his current production rate but i've always seen him as a 50 point player.

Another center off the market prior to TDL...

The bidding war for Larkin is gonna be huge. Bigger haul than Bo if he's willing to sign with his new team. Is what it is, i'm happy with the Bo trade, but a bit jealous of Detroit and the killing they are about to make on Larkin...if they don't resign him that is.

What3ver the number really doesn’t matter. 10.5 or 11. Petey is a superstar. He’s worth the number. It’s guys like Horfat a club cannot pat too much for.

That's what is crazy...Horvat 9.5 mil...or Petey for 1 mil more...Horvat is not worth that much! And i'm not slagging Bo, but his deal does not make sense when looking at his past production. Petey at 10.5 would be a steal and be very fair for us. It'll get done for sure.

Petey is the next coming of Forsberg, we're so lucky to have him on this team.

People love Fried when his "thoughts" are something they like, but when they don't like his thoughts they jump on "he's just a pot stirrer." His 32 thoughts aren't supposed to be news. They are as the name implies, his thoughts. You're free to ignore them, just as we are free to discuss them. On account of this being a discussion board. It's nice to have talking points. He thinks teams are asking about Miller. Of course they are, Miller is a fantastic player. And we are a bottom 10 team and have been for the better part of a decade, damn near everyone should be on the table.

Ohhh...he knows what he's doing. I don't mind him at all. But his intent is to sometimes kick the hornets nest to create a buzz. I mean it makes him money right?

That being said, I do think he comes from a good place with most of his thoughts, so I actually really don't mind him. And at least when he gets things dead wrong he will go on live TV and apologize about the incorrectness of his statement...it's about as close as you get these days to honest journalism.

The main problem nowadays is that old school journalism is dead (present hard facts and the truth)...now you have to create a buzz, get things trending online, etc. It doesn't need to be accurate or even remotely correct...seems to be the only way they can make money is now is to take that approach...they all do it. I don't blame Elliot for that.

Shouldn’t he be practicing,  ?   He was this week.

He tweaked his groin so will need some rest then come back for practice. But who knows maybe he got evaluated and they are finally shutting him down for the season…that would be wise.

I’m ok with Silovs getting the experience. Why not, no pressure season. Get him some games in. Great way to learn. Martin will do fine on the farm. He was great last year for them.

Love the Burrows comparison. He’s a good interview, and seems to be grateful for his spot on the top line. Hope you’re right!

If the three of them have great chemistry, it frees up Mikheyev to skate on JT’s line! Or even a checking line

I think Mik with JT makes a ton of sense. And Podz on the RW. Big boy line, plays a heavy and fast north/south game.

Petey/Kuz/AB are then free to play a little more east/west…AB being a nice mix of north/south element that can skate and be aggressive on forecheck to retrieve pucks ala Burr for the Sedins. It works well that kinda combo. If you find the right players.

That does leave Boeser and Garland in a bit of a quagmire. However if I were to keep one I would say Garly because he brings more bottom line intangibles that Boes does. And can move up the line up as needed.

More and more I think Boeser will be traded. He’s actually having an ok year so if we retain some salary he is very moveable IMO

Well, in their defence, he sort of was.

Islanders really needed to dump cap to make the trade work. And they’d also been trying to trade Beauvillier for the past year or so. Plus, he’d been playing at “negative value,” at least statistically, for the past 100+ games in New York.

I think when you look at the trade on the day it was made, AB was a bit of a cap dump. I may even have said as much myself. But I also remember saying that I liked his chances to rebound, and could easily see him getting back to something much closer to the player he’d been trending toward a couple years earlier (when he had a very favourable statistical profile).

Worth noting that one of the stated goals of this management team was to identify and target under-valued players in the early to mid-20s age group who might benefit from a change of scenery and could offer significant value to this team, at a relatively low cost of acquisition. It’s starting to look like Beauvillier might be one of these players, and a nice feather in the caps of the pro scouts and management team.

The Islanders are one of my favourite eastern teams to watch if Canucks aren’t on.

I have always like Beauvillier, he always competes and is heavy for a slightly smaller guy. I may get laughed at for saying this but I believe he is going to have a “Burrows” like effect on this team. He has played on a third line for a few seasons now with only spot duty on the top lines…all the sudden you put him on Peteys wing and watch him explode into a regular 50-60 point guy. Just like Burrows did with the Sedins. He was the perfect mix for them. Grit and determination, made space for then to make plays.

AB compliments Kuzy and Petey very well. And he has the chops to keep doing it. As you said his point totals have been suppressed playing 3rd line minutes on a defence first team. But watching him through the years on the Islanders I always liked his game and have thought highly of him for a while.

If you think back to it, the Islanders whether directly or indirectly have helped our franchise out immensely time over time. Bertuzzi and McCabe (then mccabe was flipped later down the road to help get Burke the 2nd and 3rd overall picks to draft sedins), Luongo was drafted and Islander, Richard Broudeur was an amazing goalie for us, I think we got him from them for a 4th rounder….anyways I’m rambling but our trades always turn out great with them.

Crazy thing is the Bert (mccabe for sedin picks) and Brodeur trades eventually led us to stanley cup finals in 1982 and 2011…thanks Islanders!!

Woo is right back in the Van conversation in my books.  He doesn't make many mistakes out there.......whether that translates to the next level remains to be seen

Agree, he definitely isn’t ready just yet, but you are right, he is back in the conversation again. I still think we have another 2 years with him. He’s one of those young guys that got his development derailed due to Covid.

To me, Karlsson looks a lot like Kessler........obviously not as fast and not as good.  But his skating style and the style he plays are very Keslerish to me

Actually yeah he does a bit. I am so curious to see him play at center. He doesn’t get much time there at all. Even over in Europe either…so maybe he’s no good at face offs? But yes, love his chippyness, definitely gets under the other teams skin lol

That's pretty good, and he's only 25, from Surrey.

Hopefully he can take it to the next level. That would be awesome.

I think he has shown well in his call ups. I don’t think it out of the question at all. He had such a major injury to recover from early on in his career. If he does finally turn into a full time NHLer it will be a great story of perseverance and love for the game.

I think he could be in Van right now

Probably will be if the trade Schenn. He didn’t look out of place when we called him up last time either.

Woo is a different player this year too.

We may not have any sexy defensive prospects but if we develop these guys correctly we can get some good depth going at the very least. With injuries on the parent club you always need some good 6/7/8 dmen to plug into your team and keep things steady.
