  1. Haha seriously? On the top line with Dougie. New Jersey still has to compete with Boston & Carolina before even sniffing the cup
  2. It is definitely worth mentioning that during the press conference post-Horvat, Rutherford (?) double-downed that there was no untouchables for the Nux & that it would take a high offer, but that is definitely something Jersey has.
  3. https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklund/Boeser-Trade-coming-in-days-NJ-and-Q-Hughes-e3-Tues-Buzz/1/120545 This is more for the discussion than the source. As a big time Devils fan (who appreciates the Sedin), I'd be willing to give Nemec, Mercer and a first. I think that's fair for both sides. thoughts?
  4. GoCanucksGo on YouTube has an archive with every Canucks playoff game in it. Love to watch old Sedinery from before they were stars? Must sees! Thought I'd help out fellow Nucks!

  5. Is there anywhere I can find the 1999 draft? Legitimately interested in seeing what the experts were saying previous to the Sedin's being drafted together, whether or not they had any indication on what Burke was doing, etc.?

Also interesting is how weak of a draft year 1999 was.

The hype surrounding the brothers was enormous going into the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. They were the best young prospects from Europe by far, the best in a long time. There was, however, a catch: if they were going to come over to North America they wanted to play together. Any NHL team that wanted to draft one was expected to draft the other, otherwise neither would come over. At least that was the rumour spread by their agent, Mike Barnett.

After the expansion draft on June 25, 1999, Canucks GM Brian Burke was swiftly working out the details of the trades that would get him both Sedin brothers at the entry draft the very next morning. Going into the entry draft the Tampa Bay Lightning, the last-place team, held the first overall pick. The expansion Atlanta Thrashers held the second overall pick, the Canucks had the third pick, and the Blackhawks held the fourth. Patrik Stefan and Daniel Sedin were expected to be the first two picks, so Henrik would almost certainly be available when the Canucks made the third pick. Somehow he needed to wrestle one of the top two picks from either the Lightning or Thrashers, keep his third overall pick, and have assurances that whoever ended up with the first or second pick picked Stefan instead of Daniel Sedin.

Was the internet even around then? ;)

  6. I've come to the conclusion that Eriksson isn't going to score much with Daniel and Henrik. It's not his fault. The Sedin's just never really get the third linemate involved. I'd put Eriksson on the 2nd line.. we need him to get going.
  7. Virtanen played really well tonight. It's obvious he needs to stay with Horvat and Sven. They generated chances tonight.
  8. I'm done with the Sven Baertschi project. He's not what we need. Maybe if he had better hockey IQ... or could finish.. or could hold onto the puck.. or pass. Skills are always going to be there... but that's it.
  9. How bout that Kassian for Prust trade?

@canucklehead44 - how was he a keeper? The guy was dealing with heavy addictions and couldn't get his personal life under control. The guy we traded proceeded to crash his car into a tree while drunk.

He wasn't going to fix his life here - he needed a fresh start elsewhere.

He wasn't driving drunk nimrod....he wasn't even driving.

Kassian and a 5th for Prust was and will always be a bad move no matter how you try to spin it.

Although it was bad return, it was the right move. Zack needed to get his life back together and being in Vancouver obviously wasn't helping him.

  10. Edler is #1 in the league win blocked shots.. underrated stat. 26 in 7 games
  11. Been largely a fan of Gudbranson, but I've noticed him getting rocked a couple times lately. I think the past two games to be exact I saw at least one hit each on him where he left the ground. Nothing compared to Tanev, though. Still a huge addition for us.
  12. Burrows is a grinder/enforcer now. The problem with Canucks fans is they're still expecting him to make plays. Reality is that we do need him, especially for depth when injuries come. Should he be second in the shootout? Despite a pretty good career %, no he shouldn't. But do we need him? You're damn right we do until our young guys develop.
  13. Luis is fine. 2 points in 5 games. He's really helped the Sedin'a move the puck. He's also been a part of some key goals this year, including Edler's last night. Points aren't everything. He doesn't score like Vrbata. He gets the dirty goals. We need a player like that - gritty. We had no push back last year. Hes needed
  14. I haven't been particularly impressed with Baertschi, and honestly haven't been since we've gotten him. He's not really "young" for instance. Compared to where his skills are, at least. He really needs to hold onto the puck. He's been getting beat on the boards badly, he's had trouble holding onto the puck, and when he does have the prime opportunity, he hasn't been able to finish. He doesn't go into the dirty areas - and at times it looks like he really doesn't even care to be out there. It looks like a lack of effort. He really doesn't need to be on the top six this year unless injuries permit. Granlund is a way better player - and prospect in my opinion. I bet that Daniel Sedin comment last year about lack of effort was directed towards Sven, among others.
  15. According to Willie, Trymakin's game isn't where they want it to be. When you add this in with the fact that he refuses to go to the minors - it leads me to believe that Trymakin is really not a team-player, or at least really only cares about the way his career goes. Willie also said that he was trying "way harder" than last year - which is also troubling. When you finally get into the big leagues, shouldn't effort be second nature? We will see how this plays out, but I'd almost rather have Sbisa than Trymakin in the expansion if he keeps this silent record up.
  16. Granlund has been playing amazing. He looks like he has the potential to be a perennial top six player. Definitely someone that I'd love to have on the rebuild we're going through. He's been great - and his chemistry with Hansen makes a really fun line. If only Sutter would pass just a wee bit more.
  17. I'm starting to really see a lot of potential in Hutton. I think he could be a top two if his development continues. His passing is great, skating is much improved. He's smart with the puck, and best of all he has a great wristshot and his slapshot looks really hard. I never thought I'd say this, but I'd almost rather Hutton be on that first line power play over Edler or Sutter. In time, I guess.
  18. That's Edler in a nutshell for you. Edler is what he is at this point. He has impeccable chemistry with the twins - like most Swedes do - and it's saving his job as a top four defender. Of course I think he is a top four defender regardless of what team he is, but without the Sedin's he's definitely not a top two. He has giant lapses of uninspired play - which correlates to his boneheaded turnovers. He can move the puck. Don't get me wrong, we need him.
  19. I saw the Sedin's didn't have much traction on the player discussion thread. Maybe it would be nice to have the Sedin's merged into one thread? This is due to the fact that they are typically talked about in pairs. I think it would generate a bit more topic to them.

  21. Our best player. Only other argument is Henrik or Miller.
  22. Seriously? 1) They are in the East 2) They have proven players like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Green, Kronwall, Franzen 3) Their youth is more polished: Tatar, Nyquist, Sheanen 4) They are in the East 5) They also have great young guys Puk, Mantha, Holmstrom This plus the addition to the Sedin's on the second line and you're going to ask me this question?
  23. Short answer: yes Detroit picked up Erik Cole whose contract was a 3.5 for a 2nd I believe. Burrows in Detroit would be a great sight. I secretly hope to see the Sedin's in Detroit eventually. They deserve a ring.
  24. I disagree. The best two way center Vancouver has seen IMO. If it's because of "disloyalty" then don't forget Bure. Edit: I guess you could argue he is on the "B" level alongside Morrison, Betruzzi, Linden, but if that's the case, I have Burrows at the bottom of "B"
  25. Alright, boys, calm down. I get the Burrows love and I think he is very valuable to this team right now. But let's not get carried away. I know I didn't see someone say that the Sedin's benefitted from Burrows more than vice versa? The Sedin's have done a fantastic job turning mediocre/above average players into borderline all-stars. This includes Carter, Vrbata, and even Burrows. That statement is beyond ludicrous to me and I don't see how anyone can say that with a straight face. Also, I guess technically you could say Burrows was one of the best Canucks ever, but there's a fine line of A players and B players. I think some of Burrows' top moments get in the way of that. No way you mention him in the same breath as Naslund, Bure, Daniel and Henrik, Kesler, etc. This thread is going to get a lot of posts in the next 1-2 years. I don't see him being around next year with that contract.
