Maybe its cultural. Guys like Ohlund didn't show much emotion either, nor do the twins.

Markstrom and guys like Landeskog are examples of un European Euros right now in the National League. They wear their emotions on their sleeves. No questioning that they have that intensity and competitive fire.

      Good point Chip, actually.

  2. No one should feel bad for Willie. He got paid handsomely for doing his dream job. He'll be fine.

and Bob McKenzie seems to think he's a lock to take over in Dallas. Which would actually make sense as he led their AHL team to a championship the season before we hired him.

yup, and he'll probably be a better coach there because he go to cut his teeth here. We should be getting a pick out of Dallas

I would be surprised if he lands another coaching job. And if he does, It'll probably wont last long if he continues being stubborn with his coaching decisions.

  3. Something is wonky with Cap Friendly. They have Carolina sitting with 973 million in cap space...

wow and I thought they financially were unstable...guess not...

  4. No one knows how to take a dump on a fanbase quite like Gary Bettman. I hope the players revolt and go to the Olympics anyway.

A guy who wants to travel overseas to showcase the game in preseason, but won't let players represent their countries in a way that has all kinds of worldwide viewers.  Bonehead.

Totally agreed Alf, we really need a station that tries harder. Honestly, I tune in for trade rumours, info on prospects, etc and I get to hear about Donny's fav movie or the morning guys troll the fan base. Its ripe for getting blown away by a station that doesn't take the fan base for granted.

And the new station could hire actual hockey people.  :towel:No more wanna be types like at 1040, who (tbh) know very little about hockey.  I don't think have a host who even played, do they?

Give Ferraro a fat salary to put the right group together and run his own show.

  7. So I've been driving around Victoria for a week and figured out what was "wrong" compared to Vancouver... people are polite in Victoria. It threw me off.

Nature wise though, it's gorgeous. I won't argue that at all. The city counsel is corrupt and incompetent as hell though.

You've certainly touched on something I've been wondering about lately. Nanaimo has the fastest growing population on the island (I think), and with all the people there there needs to be jobs sustaining them. You're right that it's definitely a town where you're better off already having a group of friends to hang with as it's a tougher social nut to crack than Victoria. I've never had trouble finding stuff to keep me busy there, but it just depends what people are looking for entertainment wise, and I know a lots of people in that area.

When I was a young adult there I was in University, then shipped right off to Van. I'd move back in the right circumstances. I'll gladly concede that It isn't a Vegas-like metropolis, but I don't think it's trying to be either.

I wonder what 22-30 year old peeps do for full time work if they aren't specialized or university educated anyways. That's got to be tough in any city.

      BananaMash

It is tough in any city for sure, but due to our booming population (due in part to artificially stimulating residential development but that's an argument for another day - we are a bubble waiting to burst) most of the low skill full time jobs have been fractured into part time work to be able to employ more people.

Our unemployment rate was (I believe) top ten in the country at some point. It's come down a lot, but unfortunately that's due to job fracturing and the housing boom. It's not particularly sustainable and they're going to have to figure out some way to turn our population growth into something more stable for the future.

I'm fortunate that my university education was enough to carry me into full time work. But unless you're a contractor or tradesman it's a bleak picture here right now.

It's a city with a lot of potential and very poor execution. The Jake Virtanen of island cities, if you will.

Sorry Deb, but @oldnews likes to belittle others and it gets frustrating. I'll be good.
