  1. I hear what you're saying, looking at our cap space it seems like an uphill battle to re-sign him. Your point number 1 is the same for any free agent or player negotiating a contract - you have to want to play for that franchise in the first place.I just don't think this GM and ownership group think we have a complete enough team to make a run....which is why most teams trade for a rental this time of year. It doesn't make any sense. I think this team is still a few pieces away (as do most of us) from making a serious playoff push. I would think Benning has better sense than to start making trades for short term rental players...guess we'll see.
  2. Yeah true, but first round picks aren't a sure thing either. . Let's be honest, most first round picks beyond the top 5-10 picks won't go on to be as productive as Miller (keeping in mind Miller himself was picked in the middle of the 1st round)- that's the reality of it. You always take a chance when trading a pick, but you are taking a chance when using that pick too.
  3. You, along with all the rest of us don't know if he's actually a rental. If Benning and the team can, they will try and re-sign Toffoli....you seem to think you know for sure this is a rental situation. Seeing as a rental for this team doesn't make much sense which I completely agree, my money is on re-signing him. I don't think Benning is done, I suspect he will dump some salaries wherever he can. We are against the cap yes, but teams fandangle their way around that all the time....God that Loui Eriksson contract is a pair of cement boots.....
  4. I think folks are paying too much attention to the timing and thinking Benning make this trade solely for the playoffs, I think he is simply trying to improve the team. Getting rid of Schaller made sense, and Madden isn't the golden prospect some think. The second rounder will be a low second if we make the playoffs, and you have to give something up to get a decent player....either way Toffoli improves our top 6. CDC had the same reaction when we traded for JT Miller, that turned out nicely.
  5. Yeah the goalie situation is going to be a tough one...Do you go with youth in Demko or re sign Marky after his career year...one of them wont be here. I don't see Tanev, Baer or Sutter being here next year...although at a lower price tag Sutter has a role on this team.
  6. In all honesty how good of a prospect was Madden though? Very small player at 5 11 150. He is having a good year though. With strong drafts of late I.E Podkolzin, Hoglander and Gaudette stepping up I dont think Madden was as good of a prospect as we think with our depth at center.
  7. I dont think Benning makes this trade unless he thinks he can re -sign Toffoli. A rental makes no sense for this team, it's not like we have a cup window thats closing or we are favored to make a deep run.
  8. James Neal is also greater than Lucic, so that point is kinda moot. Eriksson over his career has been a much more productive player than Lucic offensively. Lucic is 31....you've probably seen his best hockey.
  9. You're not alone...he's a great player when he's on, but he virtually disappears for long stretches at a time and is uber-streaky. A player like him shouldn't be unnoticeable as often as he is. When he's on his game he's elite though.
  10. The thing is how do you move Eriksson and Sutter? with those contracts teams don't want them. If they were on reasonable contracts teams would maybe take a flier on them....but they are both grossly overpaid and expensive so I would imagine it's pretty tough to move them right now without retaining salary.
  11. Why re sign Goldy though?? Unless he takes a step forward this season I don't see why at this point the organization would re-sign him. For a guy that was scratched multiple times last season and in the dog house I don't think we should be taking about re-signing the guy.
  12. Lol no, that's not an over payment at all....take the day off. Unless that was satire, then good on ya.
  13. Sure, Tanev is responsible defensively but after that he just doesn't do anything to make you like him. Isn't very physical, doesn't put up points and misses alot of games due to injury. It would have to be a pretty D needy team to get anything in return that would really impact the team this year and it's not like we have great depth there anyway even after the Myers, Benn and Fantenberg signings. Unless they are uber confident in Teves, Sautner or Juolevi I don't see him going unless it's a A plus offer.
  14. yup, put him ahead of Sutter and Beagle...give the kid some minutes and talented line mates and let him create some offense.
  15. Too early in Gaudettes career to consider anything or a trade. He still has huge upside and would like to see him play for another year or two with better line mates. Still so young and has shown great offensive ability at the college level....I consider him a big peice of the puzzle moving forward if he develops like we hope.
  16. This is low key hilarious if you get the reference, hats off to ya haha. Depth signing and improves Utica, was a pretty high draft pick and is young at 24. Good size and some offensive ability....I'll take it.
  17. Love it, Motte shows up to play every night and is a tremendously hard worker- he deserves it. Why does everybody sh!t talk each other on here so vigorously?
  18. Good signing, +15 last season and will play some minutes.
