  1. To answer your question, I'd go up until the deadline and at that point you have to make a trade for him to get anything back. Hopefully worst case scenario is we get a 1st and an ok prospect back for him as a rental to a contender. Better case scenarios/best case is we get multiple 1st and/or players that fit into the makeup of our team going forward. I imagine they are still shopping him around now as teams finalize their rosters. If nothing happens he'll play for Vancouver to start and if a higher tier team gets a bad injury in their top 6 or have a really bad start then they will likely target those teams to make a trade. If nothing comes from that then yeah the trade deadline situation happens.
  2. Yeah I think similarly to this. Maybe I'd give Vegas #3 and for the 4th spot Van and LA fight it out. But with Calgary having an insane offseason, the division is gonna be rough again and likely fairly close after the top 2.
  3. I'm fine with keeping Dickinson to see if he has a better year. I don't need a ton of points from him, but excellent in his own end and hard forechecking seems like a reasonable request given his career so far. However, if we can work out a deal here with Toronto that involves us moving Dickinson (maybe no retention) and resigning Kerfoot then that could be interesting. Toronto mainly needs cap space and it will likely be Holl or Kerfoot going. I don't imagine they really want Dickinson, especially with the extra year, but they will still save around 1 million in cap and if they waive him an extra million on top of that. So that combined with a 2nd and maybe another late pick could end up being a deal that works for both teams. For Van though I'd only do it if Kerfoot was open to extending at a price we like (4 years at 3.75 million per?), he would be a good 3C for this team and allow us even more freedom to move JT. Otherwise no point trading a 2nd round pick for a 1 year rental.
  4. Yes normally I would. I like PK and worth it at under 2 million on a short term deal. But with our cap I think they should pass for now. However, if they can move out some money like Poolman/Dickinson then go for it.
  5. Yeah we definitely need a 3C still. It was supposed to be Dickinson when Benning signed him, but guy didn't have a great season here. Maybe management will give him another roll as 3C to start the season and we'll see how he does.
  6. I've heard the rumors about Kadri having a deal in place with the NYI. If not they would be a great trading partner for Miller still. Sounds like Dobson is a no go, but a package with Mayfield + picks and prospects could be great as well. It looks like a lot of this will remain a standstill until Kadri signs with someone. Then guys like Miller and Patrick Kane will be trade targets for current contenders to go after.
  7. I agree. I think this was a good signing for Calgary. I'm sure they would have liked to add a year or two more to this price. But clearly based on his points last year and looking at the advance stats here, the dude can play well. Also limited to 3rd line minutes last year from the sounds of it and will likely be in their top 6 next season.
  8. I think Dipietro is better as an odd on in a bigger trade to increase the value a touch. Otherwise I would lean towards just keeping him and seeing if he improves. At the moment it feels like we'd be trading him for essentially nothing. Kid might still turn into a solid goalie if he can have a good season.
  9. I don't mind the player, but the injuries are a concern for me. Also I don't love moving Hoglander for this. I wonder if Chicago would want DiPetro or Woo instead. I think Mayfield from NYI would honestly be a target Vancouver should look at. Big boy, cheap for another year and the Isles need offense and have too many top 4 Dman.
  10. Yeah I can see your point about Miller and Barzal. While I think most of the league would consider Barzal as a more valuable piece compared to Miller, in terms of impact on the ice I would say they are pretty even. Miller is in his prime right now and for the next 3-4 years at least he should be a very solid addition to a win-now Islander team. Still Barzal is an elite skater (which is valued a lot in the league nowadays, look at the UFA we just signed) and younger than Miller so it'll still be a hard sell to NYI. I just don't see a situation where we could pull Dobson from them. I would be so pumped if we could, but I think it would cost us an insane amount (which I don't think I'd wanna pay). Likely a combo of Podz, Rathbone and a pick or two (or sub Garland in and maybe remove something). Definitely hard to pull off.
  11. Sorry for double post, but what about this: Barzal and Mayfield for Miller and Garland They can work on resigning Miller who will replace Barzal and get a cost controlled Garland to add to their top 6. We get a 25 year old center that fits on our teams age range. We will need to resign him but hopefully something around 8-8.5 million for 8 years is doable. Mayfield can maybe play in the top 4, but regardless our right side D will still be our weakness.
  12. NYI say no chance to this deal. Barzal is young and is excellent and Dobson is essentially that teams Hughes (different style of player of course). The prospects we are offering in this proposal are not great at all and they take back a cap dump also.
  13. I think this could be good. Seattle isn't trying to win now and Meyers only has 2 years left instead of 3, but more cap. We would have to add. I wonder if Meyers and Dipietro could get it done for Larsson. If not him then maybe it'll take a pick like a 2nd.
  14. Leafs say no to this. Even Miller for Nylander 1 for 1 they may not agree to, but it could be closer. Doesn't sound like Nylander was an issue for them last year or in the playoffs lately. More likely they want to move out John T in the next year or two to avoid that contract killing them in the final years.
  15. I think I saw this mentioned, but just in case... Markus Naslund was my favorite player growing up and is still up there for me. Dude was an elite sniper (in his prime) and we haven't had one since. He shouldn't have gotten his number retired. Ring of Honor yes, but #19 in the rafters, unfortunately not. We have too many numbers up there for a club that has never won a championship. (I still love you Nazzy, I'm sorry)
  16. Yeah it does feel like the Islanders are a good fit for Miller. Just need to agree on an extension before the trade is finalized
  17. Do we know if Canucks management is letting teams talk to Miller about an extension first before agreeing to a trade?
  18. Option 3 is very unlikely and why would/should he agree to it. It's not his fault Benning offered him that money. He also was better in Dallas and likely closer to being worth this price. I think we should go with option 4 if I am to pick from your choices, but first let's give the guy another season to see how it goes for him. He may bounce back and increase his value if he plays well enough, perhaps someone would even want him at the deadline for free or even if we have to retain a small amount like 500K.
  19. That would be one of the most deadly powerplay units in the league. Bo in the middle and a good forechecker in front digging the puck out.
  20. I don't agree at all. Columbus C lineup is currently: Roslovic Jenner Kurlay That is not good at all. Those guys are honestly more 3Cs then top 6, maybe you can say Roslovic or Jenner can be a 2C, but on a great team they would be a 3C. Miller is currently a 1C and would be a good fit for a Johnny Goodreau. Maybe they are gonna toss that kid Sillinger (19 yrs old) into the top 6 to center a line. Might be too much to ask right away in my opinion, but supposedly he will be quite good so I could be wrong.
  21. Columbus needs a center badly (especially now with their new high profile signing lol). Would anyone take a deal around Miller for Laine? 1 for 1 straight up, but extensions agreed upon for both players. So say Laine for 5-6 years at 7.5 million per. Miller's extension is less important to this hypothetical proposal, Columbus can pay him whatever.
  22. This is a terrible deal for Calgary. We get their best forward and their best defensive Dman. They get a decent top 6 forward, an okay top 4 D (worse than Tanev), Lekkerimaki who might turn out to be a solid NHL player and a couple middle picks from us. So yeah as Vancouver, I'd say yes but... anyone trading for Matthew should want a full extension agreed on before doing the trade. Van would ask for that and he'd say he won't resign here anyway.
  23. To be honest I think we can go even simpler, what about Whitecloud? Young RHD, Vegas is over the cap by about 1.5 million at the moment. I wonder if we could pry him away from them for a mid pick?
  24. Alf? What's going on dude? What did Garland do to you? He's a good player and for the most part it seems everyone likes the guy and what he brings.
  25. It should absolutely be Ottawa! I know it was alleged that no Canadian teams are on his trade list, but common Tkachuk. A young Sens team with cap space and YOUR BRO. Both Tkachuk's on Ottawa centered by Giroux would be an absolutely crazy line. Just a menace of a team to play against.
