  1. Don't dislike the trade. Boston could use a guy like him and they'll have space with some vets ending their careers soon. I say keep Horvat and move Miller. If Boston wants to keep Coyle they can send Debrusk instead. Either one is fine, the main thing I want is the Lysell kid and clearing Miller.
  2. This isn't true at all I don't think, we literally just saw this happen and how hard it was to move him. Maybe you could trade him for a 1st as a rental to someone, but he would have hit the UFA market and done the whole bidding war thing and picked where he wanted to go. Teams don't want to pay a lot for a forward who may walk. With Miller now he is locked in long term. I agree some teams won't want to take the risk, but damn I'd be shocked if there were no takers. I agree though that Garland would have some value. Good offensive player on a solid cap hit.
  3. I don't disagree his play is down and that will impact his value, but also his time in Vancouver has been very successful as a player and I think that shouldn't be ignore either. I think Miller is obviously a good player, he just doesn't fit our team. I would be shocked if no one wants him. NJ is one of those teams that seems like they are ready to start pushing into a regular playoff appearance, so maybe they send Severson and a pick for Miller. NJ likely wins the trade by getting the best player and moving a guy they were not going to resign anyway. They lose a 1st let's say which could fall around the #10-#20 pick. Van does it cause what the hell is this team/organization doing at this point. We need to shake things up.
  4. I still think this organization should trade Miller before the next contract kicks in. Apologize to him for the sign and trade, but this relationship isn't working and we should be building around the youth on the team not the dude hitting 30. Then trade 1 of Boeser or Garland. Hopefully one of those trades bring in a Dman (maybe Severson off NJ since he likely doesn't resign there). After that move forward with a damn plan that has Petey, Hughes and Demko at the core. Let me clarify as well, I don't think we'll "win" either of the trades I mentioned above. That's fine. Clear the cap and refresh the energy in that room. Miller should at least fetch a 1st and a prospect of some sort to a contender or a team about to hit that point.
  5. Why wasn't Mikheyev out there in OT? Supposed to be fast and is defensively solid. Seems like a good OT style.
  6. Definitely need a win, unfortunately so does the Wild. I don't like that Hoglander is out of the lineup. In my opinion he's been one of the better forwards so far, his main issue has been finishing his chances. Good puck control, gets to the open areas, but then no finish. Rather they sat Joshua or Pearson instead. Regardless, good luck tonight boys.
  7. That is a massive haul for an unproven NHLer. I get the hype around him, but damn. Petey looks to be a ppg player at the moment and may get better still and Podz is unknown but already showing improvement. If he turns into a 50ish point guy that is already about 130 points we're giving up (and I'm not over evaluating either of our players in this assessment). Then on top of that a potential pucking moving top 4 Dman and a 1st. Maybe Bedard will be the next McDavid and it would all be worth it, but the expectations for the kid are going to be out of this world. We'd need around 100-120 points a year and that still doesn't cover what we lost. Also he would make the most money out of all the guys listed so I would expect him to quickly clear 10+ million per once his entry level deal is over.
  8. If we can resign Bo for something in the range of 6.5 - 7 million then I think you keep him. Anything higher then might be worth trading. If he agrees to that amount, then move Boeser or Garland I think for some D help/picks. I'd still be happy with trading Miller, but I doubt management will do it now.
  9. Chicago would say no. Makes no sense for a rebuilding team. I think they'd be open to moving Jones, but they will have to eat a lot of the cap. Maybe they would be open to something like: To Van: Jones (50% retained) To Chi: Rathbone 1 round draft pick They get a young D and a 1st and Jones leave a rebuilder that he didn't want to go through to begin with, but Chicago will be stuck with that salary for a long time. Unlikely it happens on either side. Nucks likely don't wanna pay another 1st either.
  10. That's not true at all. Look at our core group right now - how many Swedish players are there? Petey, Hughes, Demko, Horvat, Miller, Boeser. We look to be mainly made up of Americans. I guess if you want to extend it to our other big contracts then OEL is Swedish and Meyers is American/Canadian. And we got a few Russians now too. Just cause we have a few Swedish players and our GM is Swedish doesn't mean we are more "Swede centric" than ever. Everyone has been saying this since the Sedins were in charge and before him Naslund was criticized for his leadership style too. We just need to build a more well balanced team to support the stars (Petey, Hughes, Demko) and improve on our special teams. A forward or two out and a Dman and maybe picks/prospects back.
  11. Yeah I agree. He'll take some games to get back into it, but overall should be a welcome addition to our team. A fast player who is strong defensively is definitely something we could use.
  12. I don't disagree that he gets pushed around still. But that's fine as he'll continue to get tougher and learn to play against that type of competition. He is also without a doubt the best forward on the team in all areas. Love what I'm seeing from the kid this year and looks totally dialed in (lots of others on the team should take note). Also I feel like a Center needs to be the most defensively responsible player on the line, so I don't like losing Petey from that role on his own line and relying on Miller when he's shown he is not that great in his own end.
  13. I was fine with giving Stillman some games to see what we got here and do want him to play some more. But we really need to play Rathbone. Like a good stretch of games too, not just in for 1 out for 3. Pair him with Schenn on the 3rd pair. Hughes Poolman OEL Meyers Rathbone Schenn Stillman Burroughs If after the first handful of games Rathbone is looking out of his depth sit him for a game or two and work with the kid. Then try again and if it still isn't working then sure send him to the AHL. But just feels like we are wasting a decent looking prospect when we have a D group that is universally agreed upon that it is weak already, so why not give the guy a shot.
  14. I still think a forward needs to be traded and a Dman brought back in (or at the very least pick and a prospect). I'd prefer if we traded Miller still and resigned Bo as our 2C (this isn't related to his play in the first 4 games) and I think technically we could since his trade protection is on his next contract I believe, but I know it wouldn't be a great look. Regardless if not Miller then 1 of Bo, Garland, Boeser will need to be moved to free up some cap for Kuzmenko (if we decide to resign him) and for a defensive Dman.
  15. Adding to the above comments, Poolman had a quiet but solid game. Happy with that and hope he can be a solid stay at home guy this season. Would be a great surprise for us.
  16. This is a solid proposal. Columbus with the signing of Johnny definitely can't ignore that they need to try and compete. Their team has a mix of some younger guys and more established players in their prime. They definitely need more top 6 talent/scoring and Horvat provides that. On RD they also have Boqvist and Gudbranson who you could say would be in their top 4 on D. Jenner is solid and would be a good 3C (just need to check in on his health before agreeing on the Vancouver end) and Peeke is interesting. Not very young, but still improving hopefully and played in their top 4 and did alright (with a great partner). As a Canuck fan you always worry about not getting enough for a trade like this. We are clearly giving up the best player in the trade. Obviously if they can pry out a draft pick also that would be the cherry on top.
  17. yeah I'd do this. Sucks to lose a 1st in a deep draft, but that is money out that is longer than 1 year and we bring in a top 4 RHD that we might be able to resign. I think NJ says no, their team is young, but not too far off starting to compete more and I doubt they want that much bad cap for multiple years.
  18. I think he is a good target for Vancouver, especially with how cap strapped Vegas are. But I don't see why we need to trade Hoglander to make it work. They don't have a lot of option, so maybe something along the lines of a 3rd round pick and DiPietro? I know that is a low ball a bit, but they strapped for cash and have major goalie concerns. Not saying Mikey is gonna fix it, but at least gives them someone with a little upside for the future and an okay pick for a player they will lose eventually due to no cap. Other option is they can take a package centered around Dermotte. Signed to 1.5 for another year.
  19. Is that true? Is that what him/his agent have said that they feel he should be in the top 4 (or getting top 4 mins)? I just thought it was due to their current very deep RHD roster and as a result there really isn't a way for him to get in. Fox, Trouba and Schneider all ahead of you and no one is old or likely getting moved out anytime soon. Maybe they move Schneider out and Nils can go for that 3rd spot, but seems unlikely considering the Canucks would have likely paid a good price for Schneider already. So he is currently at best #4 in their RD depth and maybe that isn't even a sure thing, plus he is at an age where he should be playing a ton and I don't think that'll be happening for him on a contending NYR team.
  20. Garland for Carlo instead. Feels a little more fair. Maybe we add Schenn and they add a 2nd round pick. Boston is very much in win now mode.
  21. I'd love to see both these guys be Canucks for the long term. Could be a really good line together too, high effort and skill. Hoping they both have great seasons and progress in their development some more.
  22. Maybe Garland for Chytil, Lundkvist and a 2nd or something like that. They get the best player by far. We get a youngish Dman with upside (but not really the type we need) and a guy who can hopefully play 3C and improve, along with a decent pick). I don't see much value to Kravtsov. If they wanna move him maybe we send them DiPietro and like a 4th. I don't think Kravtsov has shown he is a legit NHL player yet (maybe a depth guy).
  23. I hope we can resign Horvat to 6.5 like a few have been saying. That would be a solid price to lock him up at. With Miller signed now it looks like the more expendable pieces at the moment are now Horvat, Garland and Boeser. I think one likely gets moved between now and the start of next season (2023) for some sort of combo of RHD, Prospect, 1st round pick. What about Mayfield out of NYI? Very cheap for this season and likely getting a okay sized raise next season on a very full Islander D core. Not young, but under 30 so resigning him to a 3 year deal could give us 4 years of him. Maybe Garland or Boeser to NYI for Mayfield ++
  24. Anything under 7 million per year for Bo is a win I think. If he went to the UFA market I think he could likely get something like 7.5 mil x 7 years from a few teams. So I'm hoping Canucks can lock him in around 6.75 x 8 years. That would be solid and with the cap potentially going up in the future it could result in being a bit of a steal for what he can bring.
  25. They should definitely get something for him. Young RHD are worth the risk. Unfortunately not what Vancouver needs. We have some good puck moving Dman on the team now. We need shut down defensive guys now to partner with Hughes and OEL.
