I don't have an NFL subscription, so I'm wondering if any of the networks carried the Chargers and Dolphins.... Easily the best game of the week.

As do the Chiefs....

Wow....the Sunday Nighter was an absolute dog... Credit to the Cowboys defense. They pretty much smothered Jones....but the G-Men looked just awful, especially up front....

I watched the replay and I have to say how impressed I was as Canada's resiliency... They should have won in regulation, but a lucky bounce off a missed free throw went exactly where Mikal Bridges needed it to and allowed the Americans to tie. (Full credit to Bridges for tracking it down and making the turnaround three...it wasn't an easy shot) A lot of teams would have folded after that, but Canada just went about their business and pretty much killed the USA's momentum, right from the start of OT. If there was a negative for me it was Zach Edey. After an embarrassing exit in March Madness, this was a chance at some redemption. He was never going to play a lot, but when he did get opportunities, he didn't do much with them. Even at the end of regulation yesterday, when he was brought in for his size for Bridges' expected deliberate free throw miss, he was standing under the bucket, watching the ball go in... I think he'll be fine in the long run and he certainly is Canada's big man of the future, but this wasn't much of a coming out party for ZE...

It doesn't quite have the cachet of a singles title, but the fact that the US Open Doubles title was won by a Canadian is worth mentioning:

Hands up if you had both the Chiefs and Bengals starting the season 0-1....

Can't remember the last time I saw the Jays execute the Safety Squeeze.... ....if ever....

Also, I don't know if the PAC-12 still exists, but it was a good day for teams on the west coast. Washington, Washington St, Oregon, Oregon St. all with wins today. The Cougars beat #19 Wisconsin, 31-22... Also Deion Sanders' Colorado wins again....this time knocking off Nebraska, 36-14.

That was a slick play by the Royals.... If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch any highlight package tonight...

One other thing that sort of flew under the radar in the Lions - Chiefs game is how many missed calls there were by the zebras... I counted two false starts by the Chiefs O-line that went uncalled....and there were probably more...

This is a bigger blow than we realize....DJ added a power element that neither Kirk, nor Heineman bring....he's also a solid defensive catcher and although he's not a burner, he gets down the line in about half the time it takes Kirk to get there and he can score from second on a single.... Not sure how many have noticed, but the Jays haven't gone yard in quite a while...

All of this thanks to the first base ump blowing the call on Springer's swing...

One thing that the announcers kept mentioning is that the game is officiated differently in International play and the Euros adapt better than North Americans. I didn't watch enough to see all the nuances, but one thing that really stood out is the fact that they actually call traveling.....NBA refs don't even know what that is....

the Jays have to take care of business against the Royals this weekend.... The Rangers are hosting the A's for three games, while the Astros welcome the Padres to Minute Maid Park. In other words, don't expect much (if any) help on the out of town scoreboard. The Rays lost their first game against the Mariners, but maybe they can bounce back in the next three games at the Trop.

Great win for the Lions and as a fan of a different AFC team, I'm happy to see the Chiefs lose, but if KC receivers could hang onto the ball, we're probably not talking about an upset.... Still shaking my head at the 4th and 25 gamble, with over 2 minutes left and all your time outs, though....

My favorite band right now....I think Ian Thornley is a bit of a musical genius.... A few years ago we had a "Made in Canada" night at the local Performing Arts Center and we did this one....(the vocal almost killed me)

The good news for Germany is that no matter what happens against the US, they have qualified for the Paris Olympics. (as has Serbia) Those "play-in" tournaments that will round out the Olympic field are going to feature some real dog fights. The likes of Spain, Lithuania, Slovenia, Latvia, Greece, Montenegro and Italy are all currently on the outside looking in....

@Silent Man What do you think of Germany's chances against the Americans? I see they were a missed three pointer away from losing to Latvia, but they still managed the W despite Schroeder being colder than Murmansk....

I didn't see the game live, but I saw the replay of Luka getting his second T and I have to say, it was a pretty dumb thing to do for a player of his caliber... From the angle I saw, he jumped into Dort, expecting to get the call. Olynyk might have gotten him on the arm, but it was a borderline call either way. Bottom line is that Luka was already on a technical and should have known better. It's like a soccer player yelling at the ref a few minutes after being shown a yellow.
