  1. Canada beats Latvia 101-75 to finish atop Group H at the FIBA World Cup, with a 3-0 record. Moving on to the 2nd round, Canada will be in a group with Latvia, Spain and the winner of tomorrow's game between Brazil and Cote D'Ivoire. Records from round 1 carry over, so both Canada and Spain will start the round with a 1 game advantage over the other two teams. EDIT: I should note that I'm assuming a win by Spain over Iran tomorrow. It would be a massive upset if that didn't happen....
  2. Maybe this will be a wake up call for Canada Soccer. (I doubt it, but maybe) They've been lowballing the program (on both the men's and Women's sides) and expecting people to just go along. They shouldn't be surprised when someone jumps ship.....
  3. One other item of note....after the game, the Guardians DFA'd Thor.... https://www.si.com/mlb/guardians/news/guardians-designate-noah-syndergaard-for-assignment
  4. Hard to imagine how that could have been worse.... A soul crushing loss in a game they should have won.....Bo and Chappie both leave with injuries and Houston and Seattle both win.... Oh yeah....and we pretty much emptied the bullpen. Gotta agree with Sean, might as well let Biggio swing there. He's pretty much dead pull anyway. That being said, it looked like he tried to bunt it to first....that's a "making the 1st or 3rd out at third base" kind of mistake....
  5. Didn't like the fact that the 'Caps let Portland back into the game, after having a pair of 2 goal leads, but a win is a win, especially on the road. I've been one of Tristan Blackmon's biggest critics this season, so it was gratifying to see him start the first two Vancouver goals....one with his head and the other with his foot...
  6. Hard to believe this is the same defence that looked like the class of the league at the start of the season.
  7. Jesus H Alf.....you've said some clueless stuff before....but you've outdone yourself here....
  8. One thing that has flown a bit under the radar is that while the M's have been red hot, the Rangers have cooled off. Seattle and Texas are now tied at the top of the AL West. The Jays now have to reel in not only the Astros, but one of the Mariners or Rangers as well.....
  9. He was that close to 100.... Actually, considering the show where he made his name, that seems kind of fitting. RIP Bob....my fondest memory of you will always be kicking Adam Sandler's posterior....even if it was just a movie....
  10. Three things I'm totally over.... 1 - The Jays giving Gausman zero run support 2 - Alejandro Kirk hitting into double plays 3 - Valddy taking wild swings at sliders 12 inches off the plate
  11. I think they're probably really happy with the term. It's a lot of money, but 4 years is pretty low risk....
  12. It's a big chunk of change, but to put it into perspective, an NBA player coming off the bench and averaging around a dozen points a game, makes that kind of money....
  13. Yep. I think Petey's camp was waiting to see what AM would get from the Leafs. I'd expect similar term at between 11 and 12 mil.....
  14. Used to play that song ^^^ Pretty tough vocal.... Also used to do a song by Nova Scotia band The Trews, called "I'm Not Ready to Go"....they have a killer lead vocalist and it was everything I could do to get through that song.... Then, the other day, I come across this gem:
  15. So, I'm checking Sportsnet.ca and I see that the ChiSox are leading the Mariners 3-1, going into the 9th. I log into MLB.com to keep track, just in time to see the M's score 3 times, to take a 4-3 lead.... Luckily, Chicago comes back with 1 in the 9th and then wins it in the 10th on a throwing error by JP Crawford. It's about time these guys lost a game.....now if the Jays can just take advantage against the O's....
  16. Actually, it would be pretty fitting for Prig to be killed by an Element that was named for the county of Poland....
  17. Just read that Orioles starter Jack Flaherty has been scratched from tonight's game. Dean Kremer (who was supposed to start tomorrow's game) will start in his place. Flaherty is the guy the O's picked up from the Cards at the TDL. His numbers haven't been great since arriving in Baltimore....1-2, with an ERA over 7....
  18. India has become the 4th country to land on the moon: https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/23/world/chandrayaan-3-lunar-landing-attempt-scn/index.html More in the link
  19. Well, aside from Garcia's adventures, the bullpen looked very good.... That's a big win for the Jays...especially considering everyone around them refuses to lose....
  20. Looks like Schneider overplayed his hand....again.... Kikuchi walks Hayes on a close pitch, with a base open and gets the hook.....now Garcia is pouring gas on the fire....
  21. On paper at least, tonight's game should be winnable.... Baltimore is starting rookie Grayson Rodriguez, who has an ERA over 5....meanwhile, the Jays counter with Yusei Kikuchi and his 3.43 ERA.... Problem is, the Jays have a penchant for making middling starters look like the second coming of Cy Young....especially when the pitch for teams in the AL East....
  22. So, I saw something I never thought I'd see last night.....an entertaining NFL preseason game.... The Washington Commanders got a 49 yd field goal in the last minute of play to end the Baltimore Ravens preseason win streak at 24 games. (This illustrates how little attention I pay to the preseason....I had no idea the Ravens had such a streak going) Final score was 29-28 Washington. There were plenty of big plays, including a PI penalty on the Ravens that extended the winning drive, but the play of the game may have come from the Commanders' field goal holder, who's fielding of a ground ball from the long snapper, made a 3rd quarter FG possible....
  23. Another setback for the Russkies.... https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/russias-moon-mission-falters-after-problem-entering-pre-landing-orbit-2023-08-20/ Wow....those Ukrainian drones have some serious range....
