  1. I think that would be the best case scenario. I think you'd still need to be adding though, given the C position is more valuable than W. Maybe it just means we take more term, or more upfront dollars. I don't think we can move W for C and also shed dollars or term, at least not without adding sweeteners. I could see Hoglander being attached to a guy like Garland or Brock, with a C coming back.
  2. Still have to be compliant before you can put guys on LTIR.
  3. Good. I hope they win then. Let's get that cap as high as possible. f**k Edmonton.
  4. The automatic suspensions aren't up to opinion and reviews like other suspensions though? You're comparing apples to oranges. I get what you're saying, but they're unrelated offences. Drai is fine, he sold the f**k out of it. I don't have much sympathy for the guy who consistently spears guys in the dick.
  5. Why would they pay to acquire those guys, when they can pick them up for free on waivers, or be paid to take from cash strapped teams. We're 1.6 million dollars over the cap already, nobody is coming to take contracts back without us sending assets with them.
  6. Jesus dude. You're paying a 2nd just to get rid of Garland, you aren't getting picks for him.
  7. There is 0% he gets 3-4. 2 games max. That might be a 4-5 game in the regular season, which is a 2-2.5 in the playoffs.
  8. I think they can still rescind the instigator penalty, can they not? Also, Pietrangelo still has his hearing. Nothing announced yet, I would think these will offsetting 1 gamers.
  9. You'd still need to add picks/prospects to get out of OEL. 11th overall isn't getting it done.
  10. The biggest issue is the fact that he hasn't shown the ability to shoot the puck the past few years. If he can't get an elite shot back into his game, he's going to continue to disappoint. IMO it was the only real superstar tool in his toolbox. His skating has always been more of a hinderance than an asset, he really cant afford to lose another step. If that shot doesn't return, he's kind of in no mans land.
  11. If we're dropping 9 picks, I wanna shed more than 2.1 million dollars in cap. Id much rather have that 11th overall pick come onto the roster on an ELC in 2 years. f**k the short term thinking, we're going to need ELCs more than we're going to need 2 mil in cap space.
  12. But JR wants to compete for the playoffs. Unless you're getting JT Miller back in a trade for JT Miller, we aren't moving him. We wouldn't be trading 1st round picks for Rhonek if we were going to be taking a step back and replacing JT with Laf. It's not happening my dude.
  13. I think Petey is smart enough to know having dead cap space on your team is just as bad as an anchor contract. That and the fact this team is more than a OEL buyout away from being able to ice a contending team. Let's give Petey a little more credit than to think something like that is going to sway his decision. If management can't lay out a long term plan that is actually feasible, he's going walk. OEL won't factor into that equation. He's a small cog in the wheel of tomf**kery that is the Vancouver Canucks roster.
  14. 100% It's why im super hesitant to be active on free agency this year. If this team can't make the playoffs with our current roster, I don't think they're worth investing in. Locking up another free agent to significant dollars/term is only going to compound the issue. I'd like to see a put up or shut up year for this team. I know it's not going to happen though. We're good enough on paper without any additions to at least be battling for that wildcard spot, if we can't be playing meaningful hockey in March, this team needs to be torn the f**k down.
  15. That only works if you think this team is competing in the next 3 years. There is no sense in having 2.5 million in dead cap space for 6 years (if we buy him out next summer like you said), if this team isn't ready to make a run now. If our window doesn't open for another few years, I'd rather wait and sit on that contract to reduce the damage down the road. The likelihood of him winding up LTIRetired given his history is something I would be willing to roll the dice on. If he shits the bed, park him in the pressbox and make sure he knows that's where he'll be living for the next 3 years. If he wants to play hockey, he can pack his shit and go back to Sweden.
  16. The term of the cap penalty is just as important as the dollar value saved, IMO maybe more. If we're planning on being a contending team down the road, we're going to need every penny counting towards improving our roster. Ride that shit out, and hope he lands on the LTIR.
  17. They would laugh you off the phone. Boeser is a cap dump, you need to pay somebody to take him. Rathbone is a B level prospect at best, if he couldn't crack our defence core last year, he sure as f**k isn't making the B's.
  18. I kind of hope we avoid free agency all together. We're more than a couple mid level free agents away from being a cup contending team, this core needs to prove it's worth adding to, before I wanna commit to another player with term.
  19. Why do you think they have trade value? Every single article/rumour/insider has said there are no takers, and teams want assets back to take contracts. You sure as f**k are not getting a 2nd/3rd rounder back for one of those wingers. I don't think you understand the state of teams around the league. Everyone is capped out, and the teams with cap space won't be taking on contracts for free, let alone paying for them. This isn't NHL23.
  20. It's going to come down to that, or buying a player out and extending the pain. No team is going to be taking dollars and term back for nothing, even if the player is adequate. There are too many teams (like Vancouver) up against the cap, there is no reason to take on cash without some sort of asset coming back.
  21. I mean, it's pretty obvious whats happening is it not? We need to shed cap, and trading away players is the preferred method over a buyout. I don't know why some of you are making it seem like this isn't just common sense, more than a rumour. Anyone who thinks players like Garland or Boeser have actual trade value aren't paying enough attention.
  22. Also, he's obviously not going to come out and say, "Yeah, we're f**ked." Even if that might be the case here. Not looking good.
  23. Nashville would laugh you off the phone. We'll be paying somebody to take one of those 3 wingers.
