sure dependable if he's available to play he struggled to play a full season of hockey in 3 straight season missing around 25% of the season every year. he would help defensively for sure.. but it's looking more and more like we'll have 0 secondary scoring this season.. the projected bottom 6 doesn't even have 100 points combined if we don't put garland on there. shutdown EP/Miller easy win

if they can pull it off i'll give them an A+ for the off season so far after couple days of free agency it's still probably a B- for me coz they still unable to offload any cap or acquire a legit 3C. i'm not big on bledger as the 3c.. a guy that was regularly a healthy scratch

i dont think he'll be traded to a contender it's going to be an up and coming team like buffalo ottawa etc contenders wont have the space for him prolly till TDL carolina already stated they are not going to enter the season with pesce still on the team with an expiring contract. smart play would be make moves now rather than react when other team starts making offer and be serious

yup i think we need to do whatever it takes to get pesce here. i don't think he makes it to ufa next season as carolina already stated he'll be traded if he's not re-signed in the summer and likely already re-signed with the traded team. looking at the ufa market next season.. there's not really any D that sticks out that we can sign as a partner for hughes.. not everyday you'll see a top 4 RD available via trade.

i think soucy and cole improve the defence from what we had because their playstyle should compliment hronek and hughes.. but i still don't think it's that great.. it puts us maybe slightly below average in defence. cole is a stop gap so whatever.. but honestly i rather them swing for pesce seeing he's most likely available and do whatever it takes.. have him start playing with hughes to build up chemistry and in a few years time hughes pesces soucy hronek ??? wallinder at least it looks decent on paper.

lol myers garland and rathbone was included on top of the 1st from us and 1st from carolina to SJ in the proposal. i simply don't see how SJ would remotely even consider the package coming from vancouver.. they might as well just take pesces and the 1st from carolina for EK 30% retained and then trade pesces themselves for a ransom.. coz i know i laugh and hang up the phone if van offers 1st myers garland and rathbone for pesce lol.

i think san jose is getting fleeced in the deal.. a cap dump + a salary retention and all they get out of it is a 1st that's not even a top 10 pick and a player that have been no where near his rookie season the past 2.. if they are retaining 50% of karlsson.. they can get much better than basically a mid 1st and a player with little value atm.. i love the deal for vancouver but there's no way in hell SJ does that deal.. vancouver basically gave up just a 1st to get a top 4 D.. Hoglander might not even be part of the canucks plan for the future as there really isn't a roster spot for him in the top 6 and he's not suited as a bottom 6

assumption without facts?? fact he was playing he was playing behind makar girard johnson and graves in colorado fact he was playing on the 3rd pairing with soucy in minnesota fact he was playing behind slavin pesce skjei deangelo in carolina so how is he a top 4 defenceman on most teams he played on?? he played top 4 in tampa bay and did ok.. but he's pretty much top 4 by default just like he'll be in vancouver because Tampa had no depth on defence.. when your other choices are raddysh bogosian foote fleury myers.. not much choice they have. 17-18mins is normal 3rd pairing minutes in the NHL.. dunno where u get the 17+mins = top 4 minutes. most teams in the NHL their 5/6th defenceman averages slightly above 17mins. hirose and burrough average slightly above 17 mins last season.. are they not our bottom pairing 6/7th defenceman? again he's going to be playing well above his role.. in his career he have NEVER EVER played consistently against other teams top line. if he's paired with hughes.. he's going to be on the ice a lot ES against other teams top players. he's going to be 34 not exactly young he ain't gonna get any faster or better, and who knows how well he can handle fatigue playing 20+mins a night as he and soucy is probably going to be primary on PK on top of the ES mins and dealing with one of the toughest travel in the league on top of hopping timezone on a consistent basis.. something he didn't really have to deal with as much in colorado minnesta and tampa

Cole have been playing bottom pairing defenceman in all his time in Colorado Minnesota Carolina he’s the 5th or 6th lowest average toi out of defenceman on those teams so dunno where u get the he’s been playing top 4 for a long time from with the exception of last year in Tampa where he’s in a 2nd pairing role coz Tampa don’t have cap space or depth. We make too much assumptions people will be perfect playing above their role. He’s great playing against the 3rd and 4th liners we don’t know if he can handle playing against top players on a consistent basis. It’s a gamble.

Lol 2 legit top 4 and then filled with 4 5/6/7 defenceman is looking pretty good? People just assume cole and soucy would just be elevated into a top 2 pair and fit in nicely when they are a 5/6 defenceman on other teams. Not even sure if Cole is even capable of playing 18-20 mins a night at the age of 34 playing with west coast travel

so now that day 1 is over.. are we realistically any better than when we ended the season?? Cole and Soucy are decent defensive defenceman.. only problem is they are 3rd pairing defenceman on most teams and they had success because they were used as 3rd pairings defenceman.. all of a sudden they are expected to be a top 2 pairing guy? i dunno.. not every 3rd pairing defenceman you toss on hughes side is guaranteed to work like Schenn.. i feel like 1 if not both will fail in vancouver because they are elevated to a top 4 role when really they are just a bottom pairing defenceman on prolly 2/3 of the nhl

prolly 1.5-2 really not that bad for a backup goalie that can play stretches if sorokin have an injury anything under 2mil i think it's ok

well hopefully he's good enough.. poor guy is not even eligible for his name on the stanley cup lol.. but i really dunno if a 20p guy is good enough to be a 3c.. i'm just hoping that's a 4c..

only thing good about it is it's only for 1 year... he was healthy scratched often in the regular season and most of the playoffs.. 1.9mil?? prolly should have been 1mil for a guy that's not even good enough to stick in the regular lineup all season

there's no rule stating you can't sign an unsigned player that's not under any contract prior to july 1st 12pm est show me a rule that saids unsigned UFA can not sign a contract prior to 12pm? i mean Detroit signed Kostin today who they didn't qualified him.. technically he's a UFA

that only applies to player that becomes a free agent on july 1st. they probably just can't officially file the paperwork till 12 when they open
