  1. Coyotes really showing OEL that they are moving on without him.... And showing the Canucks that they don't have to do the OEL deal right away.....
  2. LMFAO, really? You're gonna go that route? 8.25 OEL for 7 years vs 5 M for 2 or 3 years for TJ. One is 29 years old. One is 26. They're both really good players, but the term for 7 years is terrible.
  3. If those players who are due for arbitration are any good, why not just sign them for free and not lose an asset? You get a known entity. A pick is just a pick.
  4. But we lose a prospect (and development time) in the process, surely that offsets any 'stronger' prospect that we could get this year. Not to mention that the first round pick we get this year will probably be a low one (anywhere from 15 up, but probably 20+). Because why would any team give anything higher when we are not likely to be a bottom feeding team? It's not a good deal.
  5. And that's exactly how I interpreted it. You're trading away 2021 first round pick for this year's first round pick. And you lose a prospect in the process + another sweetener if necessary, for ONE pick.
  6. [Report] Coyotes prefer Boston's prospects over Vancouver's, but Vancouver seems more motivated than Boston. https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/bruins/oliver-ekman-larsson-trade-rumors-coyotes-bruins-prospects-more-canucks#main-content We have yet to see a blockbuster trade unfold since the Stanley Cup Final ended last week, but that could change given Oliver Ekman-Larsson's situation with the Arizona Coyotes.W The veteran defenseman has been linked to several teams in NHL trade rumors over the last few weeks, and the two teams that have come up the most are the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks. Ekman-Larsson has seven seasons left on his contract with the Coyotes that includes a $8.25 million salary cap hit. The deal also has a no-movement clause, so Ekman-Larsson has to approve any trade. According to a report from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and Chris Johnston on Monday, it sure sounds like the Bruins and Canucks are the only two teams (at least right now) the Coyotes captain is willing to waive his NMC to join. "This much we know: Oliver Ekman-Larsson has almost certainly played his last game for the Arizona Coyotes, and he’d like to play his next one for either the Vancouver Canucks or Boston Bruins," Friedman and Johnston wrote. "Attempts to get the Coyotes captain to expand the list of destinations he’d waive a no-movement clause for have proven unsuccessful." Friedman and Johnston also noted that, "The Coyotes like Boston’s prospects more than Vancouver’s, but, on the weekend, it seemed like the Canucks were the more motivated buyer ..." Advertisement The Bruins' top prospects are forward Jack Studnicka, forward Trent Frederic and defenseman Urho Vaakanainen. Studnicka, in particular, would be tough to trade because the Bruins have very few forward prospects with high-end potential, and he could be a top-six center over the next few years. If an Ekman-Larsson trade is going to happen with any team, it's possible it could go down this week because there are two major league events scheduled. The first is the 2020 NHL Draft, which begins Wednesday night with the first round and resumes Thursday with rounds two through seven. Free agency officially opens at noon on Friday. The Bruins could soon have a huge need for a top-four defenseman if Torey Krug leaves the team in free agency. Boston general manager Don Sweeney told reporters Monday that "We haven’t had any progress as far as Torey." Krug is the second-best defenseman expected to reach unrestricted free agency later in the week, and given his experience and impressive offensive skill set, it wouldn't be surprising if he had plenty of suitors on the open market. ----------------------------- I like OEL, but I don't know about this trade.... I just don't know anymore.
  7. Then you'll lose a 2021 first round pick and a prospect....What's the point?
  8. If I were Arizona, I wouldn't take on Eriksson's cap hit. I'm looking at capfriendly right now and unless I am reading it incorrectly, they only have 3M of cap space. They are in such cap hell. Oh my god.
  9. My genuine opinion is that OEL will be a huge mistake. We're not that rich to chase after OEL. Some salary has to go the other way, and Arizona is not a team that has a whole lot of capspace. The term on OEL is also pretty gross. We'll probably have trouble signing people like Quinn down the road. There's no reason for Benning to get himself into this hole. He's done such a good job being at 14.2 mill cap space with most of his team intact.
  10. Not to bash Benning but I thought he missed out on the trade for Olli Maatta (Chicago -> LA). A clear upgrade on D, as you would probably qualify, and on a reasonable salary.
  11. It blows my mind that the Canucks didn't take advantage of this. 4 M for a top 6 defenseman is a a reasonable salary. (3.3 if we were to get the same retention treatment). Huge upgrade on D, plus a friend of Juolevi which I already mentioned.
  12. Taken from a 2018 article found here: https://thehockeywriters.com/pittsburgh-penguins-maatta-2018-season/ Olli Maatta’s First 82-Game Season By Julia Stumbaugh April 11th, 2018 Maatta’s Injury History Maatta has fought through an unbelievable number of injuries in his five NHL seasons. He’s undergone hand surgery, a cancer diagnosis and a host of other injuries that have kept him away from the game for months at a time. There was another site that actually lists the full injuries he's incurred throughout his career. Obviously cancer isn't an "injury", but they count as missed games. Juolevi has been pretty unlucky with missed games also.
  13. Yes. But it's laughable that you're trying to praise Barrie's defensive play by trying to make the comparison that our defensemen were 'bad'. Barrie is going to be a glorified Pouliot once he's here.
  14. I'd say it's a great trade for both sides. Chicago needed the space more, but didn't have to give up any picks as a sweetener. LA Kings improved from this trade at little cost.
  15. This is a creative way to get rid of fat contracts. To be honest, I think the Canucks should have been on this. Maata is a friend of Juolevi's. We could have traded someone like David Pope back. (no value)
  16. Yes, it is. Brad Morrison's cap hit is only 743,000. Meanwhile Maata's is 4M. Chicago got rid of like 3 M of space, and they paid with Maatta to do it.
  17. Actually looking at the cap hits, I can see that Chicago intentionally fleeced themselves to get someone back at a lower cap hit. They save like 3 million dollars of space here.
  18. Hayton is a good player. Don't sleep on him. He was captain of Team Canada, and was completely heart and soul for that team. Coyotes felt like they needed a center, reached for cookies and were lucky they got a good one.
  19. Hey Justin, I think the Canucks have better options for UFA.
  20. I don't understand why the Canucks didn't trade for Arizona. The Canucks surely could have used Grabner's speed. His PK is really good. Must be the money.
  21. Since when does a one year contract make the Twitter guy say #LeafsForever? This is hardly worthy news to hashtag that crap.
  22. I once asked a neighbour if he thought Benning was doing a good job about 5 months ago, and he flatly said no. I don't understand what goes into the mind of people.
  23. YAY for recycling! Condoms contribute to the unmanageable garbage, which inevitably ends up in waters! Reduce, reuse, recycle! (just not condoms)
  24. That is not very accurate reasoning. If New Jersey drafts the next Gretzky with the (low) 1st round pick that came from Tampa (Miller trade), which would be highly unlikely, would you still say that "Tampa got fleeced"? No, that's complete nonsense. No one would have any knowledge how a pick will pan out, ESPECIALLY a low 1st round pick. Similarly, a 2nd round pick was SOMETHING - and we got SOMETHING. A trade normally involves two trading partners who are happy with what they got. Calgary didn't "easily" win the trade, but we got good usage of Baertschi as well. The 2nd round pick was not really a waste.
  25. Malhotra was not played either because of his eye injury. Of course he is "fine", but the Canucks didn't want to take that chance, which understandably left Malhotra bitter at the time. The Canucks obviously like Baertschi. Green coached Baertschi in juniors and this was, presumably, one major reason why Baer was brought in in the first place. It was a 2nd round pick that panned out VERY well against Calgary. I don't think anyone will seriously argue that the Baertshi trade now was a flop, but at the time, we had people always questioning why Benning was "throwing away draft picks". Those people have largely been silenced, from what I see.
