  1. I think he will outlast Baerschi as a Canuck.
  2. After watching his draft year highlights, I got the feeling that he wanted to be Guy Lafleur rather than say Bertuzzi. Also, after scoring that goal off his face, he probably said the hell with being the net front presence.
  3. Just looked at the Canucks roster and saw that Eriksson (6'2", 179 lbs) and Pettersson (6'2", 176 lbs) are virtually the same size yet no one considers Eriksson to be a small body.
  4. I still think first year Bure was more exciting than first year EP but - If you go look at some old Bure highlights, his circling of the O zone and deke-ing 2. 3, 4 players were enhanced by some sweet picks initiated by Linden, et al. As much as I loved Bure and hated Linden, those plays would not have made the highlight reels if it weren't for the picks set up by teammates, led by Linden. I see EP as a faster Thomas Gradin with a Naslund-like shot. A Super Swede 40.0 - the final iteration of the classic Swedish centreman, who would never shoot to one who could shoot and pass equally well and win scoring races.
  5. Where was Lockwood during the last minute of the game?
  6. MacEwen's goal was announced unassisted but clearly Dahlen fed him the puck. Hope they change it. (Watching the free feed; considering subscribing)
  7. Seems to score a disproportionate amount of backhand goals...more tools in his toolbox.
  8. At last year's development camp, he seemed more like a puck hog.
  9. I don't see why people are devaluing Granlund. IMO, he's ahead of all the other G's (Goldy, Gaudette, Gagner, Gaunce). He's had a 19 goal season under his belt, he checks, he PKs, he has good speed and good DNA. His brother took years to crack the top 25, And he's better than Leipsic, who many have placed on the Canuck roster already.
  10. Q. If Hughes signs and does not make Canucks roster opening day, how many games should he end up playing in Utica? A look at his comparables and their time in the AHL - McAvoy - 4 games regular season, 6 games playoffs Werenski - 7 games regular, 17 games playoffs Karlsson - 12 games regular (11 assists)
  11. There are still s&&&heads like Kadri who will do this to top players -
  12. One question - what if that backchecking forward was Tom Wilson? or Nazem Kadri?
  13. or Bobby Lalonde. (All 5-5 and 150 lbs of him).
  14. Hutton, when carrying puck out of the d-zone never seemed to be aware of the backchecking pressure. Bieksa was like that also. I was always worried about them getting pickpocket-ed. Maybe it was their first couple steps - no acceleration at all. The Hughes and Rathbones have that acceleration and awareness. Also, I seem to remember the old Hutton Maine highlights. The year he scored 15 goals, he was in a rover position on the pp mainly and he scored from basically the Elias Petterson office. No way will you see him on the pp doing that on a Travis Green team.
  15. Which of these guys would you want? https://theahl.com/stats/player-stats/all-teams/57?playertype=skater&position=forwards&rookie=no&sort=assists&statstype=standard&page=1&league=4
  16. I don't think there's a problem in hiring him as a paid blogger during that week (ie next week).
  17. I remember watching Orr in the 70s and Coffey in the 80s - he's more Orr than Coffey.
  18. The 8 defensemen on the US roster for IIHF WC 2018 were - Martinez McAvoy Butcher C. Murphy Hughes Jensen Osterle Pionk Not the best group USA could muster. It's not saying much that Hughes went from 7th or 8th to top 4. On paper, he's better than the AHL/bubble guys and should be challenging the Butchers and Connor Murphys. (Where would Hutton, Pouliot, Stecher fit on the above D group?) BTW, I love the pick. 2 words - Bobby Orr.
  19. A bit off topic but some Canucks connections - I was going through IMDB re the Goon movies and of course there's Larry Woo, Jett's dad, who was in both movies. In Goon 2, I see Brandon Prust and MDZ had small roles. But how's this for Canucks trivia - former Canucks no 1 pick in 1977 Jere Gillis plays 'Quebec #1' in the first movie. IIRC, after Gillis finished his career, he became a stuntman and has a load of credits on IMDB.
  20. I believe that's a pic of his old man in the Goon movie.
  21. Canucks had the all rookie line in 1978 of Fraser, Gradin and Smyl - one of the better lines in Canucks history.
