People make it sound like it’s only the Canucks that keep trying to win when they are out of the playoffs. All teams are trying to win. It would be bad form not to. Every bottom feeder has strung some wins together here.

    We are not special

there's a whole lot of young players, bottom 6 journeymen, and backup goalies who are playing for jobs

It seems interesting to me that the team looks much better now that some young guys are in the lineup.

Next game I want to see:

    Hoglander-Miller-Boeser

    Pearson-Horvat-Gadjovich

    MacEwan-Graovac-Lind

    Highmore-Boyd-Hawryluk

    Hughes-Hamonic

    Juolevi-Schmidt

    Rathbone-Myers

    I mean, why not.

Doesn't surprise me.   Back when we had the regular lineup in Jan-Feb i couldn't believe how everyone but Ottawa made us look so slow

Yes the game has changed.  Yes McDavid and Mathews are the current Mario and Brett Hull.   Leagues got 31 teams soon 32.  Not 21.  Not 16 and certainly not 6.   It's diluted talent.   Half the guys in today's game wouldn't play in the 70's.   And like i've already said, so many times, it's very simple to go back era to era just by how the guys in their 30-35 range played against the crop of new stars in their 20-25 range.

Completely disagree.   In the 70's the league had a very small pool of players to pull from compared to amount of countries that have become regular contributors due to how the sport has grown globally.   The 70's guys were smoking during intermission... there's no way most of them could keep up with the way today's players (from so many countries) are developed and train from teens up.  Training camp used to be for getting in shape, now if you're not in peak shape when it starts you're cut.

That's true, people overestimate the importance of sports athletes.

Unique situation though...  people have been dealing with a lot of mental stress in their own circumstances and losses over the last 14 months (i've worked from home for over a year while my wife has been overworked as part of our public health unit).  Everyone is simply coping with isolation through all of these lockdowns.  There's a reason why mental health is being stressed all over the place (and rightly so).  This is taxing and outlets/entertainment/distractions are necessary.

Ya i actually said last night i figured he would have fought Simmonds after and tuned a weaker Leafs player as retribution.

I stand corrected. And disappointed tbh.

I think Bieksa is realizing that his path to moving up the media ladder hinges on developing an ability to absolve Leaf players of any responsibility. I have heard him say before that tough guys should not go after weaker guys but take on the other teams tough guys to settle "the code".

Just gotta try to figure out which version of Bieksa to believe i guess.

I agree with this as i've heard over and over again over the years that it's classless for tough guys/fighters to go after guys that don't fight.

Reminds me though how disappointing it was that Matt Cooke was the guy that challenged Moore for the Naslund hit.   Not one of our tough guys yet Moore still got credit for answering the bell and the media thought that it should've been settled with that.

Was Bieksa asked about the suspension being punishment enough ?

    speaking of Hoglander

he could have stopped the Mathews goal if he tried backcheckng

Looks like he has been playing with Miller too long

Speaking of Miller, did anyone check to make sure that wasn't Jimmy Vesey wearing old number 9?

JT is definitely not looking right since the break.   Terrible decisions (not just by him either)
