I donno, there were some varied opinions but I think plenty of people figured the Canucks would be sniffing around the playoff race and the pick would end up around 10th or later. Fair deal.

I thought we'd be sniffing around the PO this year but not make it, meaning we'd keep that 10-15th pick and give up the 2021 1st which i'd expected to be lower since we should be a strong contender next year.

I'm really interested to see how the lines play out in the game tonight and whether or not they use the lines from yesterdays practice or not. For me moving BB6 to the second unit is more balancing the PP units then a demotion. With Pettersson and Hughes on PP1 they are the ones being setup most of the time for the big one timers so moving BB6 gives you more options on PP2. Its the even strength play that I'm interested to see and especially who we have playing RW on the top 3 lines. Basically BB, JV and LE are currently our top 3 RW and heres my take on the new lines.

BB's play has not been bad, as can be seen by his point totals, but as a lot of people have mentioned his shot seems a little off this year and watching him play it looks like he has more to give. His defensive play and play making has come through a lot more this year and might be contributing to the above concerns but overall hes still is a 1st line RW and is integral part of the team. I can't see how putting him on the 3rd line is the right option here, he's had chemistry with Bo in the past so if you are going to demote him why send him to the 3rd line and not put him on Bo's wing?

JV  is having a career year for himself and looks like he's finally ready to start breaking out. He hasn't done anything too flashy but is playing a good 200ft game and is being rewarded with points and more playing time(even if it is on the lower side of the teams its up from past seasons). It seems like Green has been hesitant to play JV on his off wing but think he may be more effective on the 1st line if he was playing on the LW with EP40 and BB6 then playing RW with EP40 and Miller. Only problem with taking Miller off EP's line is in the faceoff dot. Have Miller able to take faceoffs on that line has helped our possession game a lot.

LE is still not worth his 6M price tag but is finally finding his game a little and earning his spot in the lineup. His defensive play and injuries are  what is keeping him in the lineup currently. Hopefully he can keep up the defensive play but I don't see how he has earned a 2nd line spot over either JV or BB.

I guess we'll see how tonight line experiment goes but with our current crop of fwd if Green wants to shake things up I'd like to see the following:

    Miller   EP40     JV

    TP        Bo        BB6

    AR       AG        LE

    or if above isn't working

    JV               EP40      BB6

    TP/Miller        Bo        Miller/TP

    AR                AG        LE

    Thoughts?

Get ZM in on the 4th line, to wake it up (and send Schaller another msg).

Edler was directly responsible for at least 5 of those goals ...either by taking a penalty or by giving away pizza's....Myers gave one of those up as well.

That was a big regression on Edler's part and the main reason we lost....not the goalies.

While he was having a good season, it is stuff like this were he starts screwing up and it just gets worse as the game goes on.

I can't wait until we get Joulevi and Rathbone or Rafferty up and play Edler as a #5 ...

    Juolevi / Hughes

    Myers /  Rafferty or Rathbone

    Edler / Stecher

That is how it should look by sometime next year....

I'm hoping Tryamkin is in that mix.

I don't think the move bit the Canucks... but the head injury sure did!

Whats worse the incident never even saw any punishment for the perpetrator. Its unfortunate for the team and Baer as I feel he would definitely be on the team if he didn't suffer the injury.

The Canucks really do have some sort of curse, not sure why but it seems real.

    How do you explain

    Erikkssons dramatic cliff fall?

    Baers head injury?

    Manny's eye injury?

    Luc Burdon RIP?

Twice losing in the SCF in game 7?

    Daniels concussion in the playoffs?

The first draft roulette wheel loss?

    Never won the Stanley Cup?

Baer is just another in a long line of unfortunate occurrences for the organisation.

don't forget the Moore incident which derailed a very strong contending team right before the playoffs.

What a game to be at!

After a bad giveaway in the first Jake was very good all game.

I love watching Miller play. He’s tenacious and all over the ice.

Myers had a good game. Started really throwing his body around in the third.

Hughes can really skate with the puck!

Despite being heavily outshot I thought we had a handful of grade A chances. Marky was a phenom but Mrazek also made several terrific saves.

Carolina is a very good team and the more I know about Rod Brind’amour the more I like him. But like thieves in the night we’ll snatch those two points and run.

I'm hoping our guys took notes on how much pressure the Canes put on in their zone, especially on the PK.  Very effective.

They are getting chances, for sure. But I just find it weird that people give Bo a pass but are on Brock's ass. Boeser isn't bad defensively. So when he isn't scoring he isn't hurting the team. Just pointed it out, out of fairness to Brock.

While i like the extra physicality/puck retrieval BB has shown this year, his passing has really been hurting the team lately.  Especially on the PP where his entry passes get blocked, and either don't connect in the offensive zone or in some cases have even gone out of the zone.

    Thanks refs and Anderson.

and thanks refs for messing with our power play stats by giving us one with 5 seconds left.

I've always wondered why PP success is based on goals/PPs instead of being based on amount of PP time.   Just seems that would be a way better indicator of potency, whether you had a PP that only lasted seconds, or you score early in them, etc.

I have all day to defend this young team that's really giving me some great entertainment this year.  Not picture perfect, but no team ever is.  They can have flashes of brilliance but all teams will have periods where they let things slide a little.  For various reasons that are mostly ignored here.

    Keep it coming....

This.... in a big way.  Can't overstate how much more enjoyable a team we have to watch this year.  Can't wait to watch this core mature together.

Here's another "big picture" consideration as I debunk the myth.

There were 4 penalties awarded in the second/third.  All to Vancouver.

A team that's on the PK will wear down (in what  some see as "letting down").  And a team that gets to play with a man advantage generally will start to generate some momentum (or at least should).

If we're going to do this (look at "blown leads" as an issue for the team), let's make sure our eyes see things that factor in, like the shorthanded minutes being played by one team that maybe deplete the reserves a bit.  Reasons of "why" they may not just surge ahead with a lead.

This is, by no means, to undermine some of the great comments here (that I happen to agree with).  Some of these things DO happen...I just think there are reasons behind some of them and it's not just a matter of the team breaking down because they don't know any better (or don't care).

All the more reason to not shorten the bench and further wear out the defensive/PK players TG leans on to protect a lead.

I remember watching Pittsburgh light someone up for like 10 or 11 once but I'm gonna say Montreal and wayyyyy before any of us were born.

I know it's not the most, but i saw the Canucks beat Detroit 10 or 11-5 at the old Olympia arena a loooong time ago.  King Richard Brodeur gave me his goalie stick after warmups.

Don’t have a problem with Marky smashing his stick. It shows emotion and a willingness to compete imo.Was listening to a bit of he post game on the radio and Cory Hirsch  seemed to think Marky was mad at himself more than anything.Thats coming from a former goalie so take it for what it’s worth.

I think he was mad at himself too... not for not making the save, but for not going after the puck before the Blues could skate to it.  Was my first thought watching that develop live.

Not sure Baer is going to be able to do that, this team is completely different and I am not sure Baer is up to the task. I hope he does but he needs to keep up with the bigger, faster bodies to go along with his skill. Along the boards is where he is going to have the most trouble. We shall see.

All he has to do is not fall when he gets near the boards and he'll be a step up from LE
