Tank Hard for Bedard - Playoff chances are already Slim
The King of Kings replied to Provost's topic in Canucks Talk
I think people should stop putting "Tank" and "Bedard" in the same sentence. I remember a few hockey experts already stated that the Canucks with the current roster are not going to tank and become bottom feeder. And with the cap situation around the league, the Canucks cannot clear out too many contracts without giving away futures (the best bet would be trading away Myers+Horvat) during the season. Basically the House-cleaning sale cannot happen until the off-season, i.e. after the draft lottery. Getting rid of Myers and Horvat only is not enough to decrease the overall rating of the team dramaticallly, thus it's not enough for the "tank" before the season ends. -
[Speculation] Canucks exploring Tyler Myers trade

No need to imagine... Many months ago, there was a desperate GM who acquired the captain of the Arizona Coyotes to strengthen the blueline, while we all know that contract term is worse than Myers's. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

The best time to trade Boeser was last seanson's trade deadline, as a rentalfor some contenders. Thanks to the ridiculous 7.5M qualifying offer, he actually has no trade value after hitting the RFA status. No team would give up assets for an unsigned, underarchieving winger, and then sign him to a big contract. It turned out that JR was the one giving out that contract that no team would want to pick up. -

Just wondering , for #5 and #6, do you mean the canucks need to give up a third in order to get rid of Pearson/Myers? -

If there is any team interested in OEL (and OEL is willing to go), that team would sure also ask for a high draft pick or two attached to OEL. If the price to get rid of dickenson is a 2nd, imagine the cost for OEL. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign J.T. Miller

Is there anywhere we can find the proposed offers from other teams for the potential J.T. Miller trade, during the trading deadline of last season? -
Nobody can top Mike Milbury!

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Boeser should have been traded at last year's deadline, if the Canucks wanted to have something in return. At the time he hit RFA in July with that 7.5M Qualifying Offer, he basically had no trade value. No teams would trade away assets for an underachieving free agent with such challenging QO. Maybe we should discuss if the team should have let him walk by not offering him the QO. -

Minnesota, a.k.a. the hockey state, is a mature market with educated fan base. They don't need to acquire a "hometown" boy to sell tickets. -

I really cannot think of any team who would want to pick up the multi year contracts of Miller and Boeser. Unless the Canucks are willing to add draft picks again, or retain salaries. -

I think it's pretty tough to downplay it to $5-6M salary range if the Qualifying Offer was 7.5M. My question is, what was the reasoning behind the previous contract signing for giving out the 7.5M Qualifying Offer?
