  1. After listening to the presser introducing Benning I saw the difference between him and Gillis right off the bat. The arrogance of Gillis comes to mind. Gillis seemed as though he was always irritated on some level answering questions. Benning on the other hand came across as down to earth and thankful for getting the job in Vancouver. Only time will tell how things will work out on this one but I think Benning started off on the right foot. I remember him well when he was Canuck. Nothing fancy but he got the job done. That's all we can ask for off the ice too. Good luck Jim.
  2. I'm still trying to figure out why Gillis took Schroeder? What did he see? A pint half full or half pint half empty, he still only got a half pint. Who ever orders a half pint?
  3. All a reflection of how poor a job Gillis did in the end.
  4. I've had to reassess my view of the job Gillis was doing and have come to the conclusion he was in delusion. There's no way I'd blame Garrison for signing with Vancouver for the money he did. It's Gillis who signed this guy. Garrison has been ok, nothing more in my mind. It's a lot of money to spend on a guy that's just ok. There's more than one buy out candidate on this team.
  5. A joke franchise. Clear the pallet of all things Burke. Too bad for Nonis.
  6. He iced a boring team. Scouting continually $hits the bed. It was time to go.
  7. How the hello does Bush make it into this forum is beyond me.
  8. Great move. All in the right timing. He'll be the best Canuck off the ice now. It's gonna be real good.
  9. Kassian has come a long way this season, mostly between his ears.
  10. Remember at the end of last season Gillis said RESET. I believed him, and gave him until the end of this season, which looks only days away, to RESET. I figured out what my problem was. My reading and hearing skills are out of touch, Gillis really said REGRESS not RESET. My bad for believing in Gillis' vision. Regardless this team's direction has been way off track of Gillis' vision for quite some time. When Torts was hired all things sounded right. The season rolled along and I along with many others waited for Gillis to make a move to bolster this group with size and speed. Motivated by Luongo not playing him in the winter classic and Luongo's agent basically brokering a deal, Gillis moved Luongo. There was the Torts blow up that only solidified the reason Gillis might not have wanted Torts in the first place. We all know the story and every angle known to man. What got me was the public statement Gillis made on the radio. Up until now Gillis has always kept his feelings to himself and seemingly kept things closed door. We're all wondering what's really going on? Personally there's too much drama . This is beyond the boring product on the ice. I don't think ownership would hesitate to clean house if they thought that's what they had to do to achieve success. I'm looking forward to the end of the season because I think in the short term Canucks fans will have action to follow even if this team doesn't make the play offs. Lets just get all the BS over with and get on with building a strong club. Players don't want to play for gong show organizations. The rest of the league watches. One side note: Things are still not as bad in Vancouver than they are in Toronto.
  11. I was thinking, it's a fore gone conclusion that Vancouver will use it's buy out right. Why would they? Only to state that a investment they'd made had run it's course. Just because we hear some CBC hack state Garrison could be a buy out candidate doesn't mean it's remotely true. I for one have been disappointed in Garrison offensively and considered the buy thought on him and soon came to the conclusion he'd be hard to replace even though he's not scoring as much as we'd like. Hell I'd like to see the puck shot on net for once or even a hit from Garrison but he's not a defensive liability like Edler has become. Using the buy out just because it's there doesn't make sense. With Booth coming on maybe the only buy out will be the coach.
  12. I noticed that too. I expected him to drop off but I think he'll be just fine. In a round about way I think he showed Kassian up and at the same time Kassian saw Jensen's confidence and followed suit.
  13. I understand what you're saying regarding Gillis and his NTC. It reeks of unionism when I hear family interests or job security. We've seen how NTC can hold an organization down, not just Vancouver but all of them. For the length of a players career and the money they make I feel the NTC should be banned completely. Playing in the NHL is a privilege not a right that is different than any other regular job. Sure these people earned it with hard work and sweat as did I earning a solid degree that will take care of my family's future. The reality of it is there is no job security. Every one wants security with their risk. I just think NTC are bad news for the player and the franchise. Luongo signed a contract for big bucks that gave him all the security in the world look where that landed him and this franchise. MG was doing his job, he's not the only guy in the NHL signing player to NTC and I understand why they are there, I just see them as bad news. If the organization is good a player should want to go there with out a NTC, problem is it just isn't so.
  14. I think Gillis will stick around, especially if he hasn't been pulling all the strings. Ownership hired him to take a lot of the flack!
  15. And even Sandlak had a 40 plus season if I remember correctly. Kassian is a far better skater than Sandlak ever was but they do sport similarities.
  16. I'm glad you did bring this one up. What are they going to do with this guy? If you give up on him other up and coming players will see an organization giving up on it's young players. Not only did they pay a lot to get this guy they're investing big bucks into his development too. Where's the line? We'll see soon I think.
  17. Gillis takes a lot of heat for Aquillini moves, that's why they're paying him the big bucks. We don't know the behind the scenes goings on but I think the Aquillini's have more to do with some of Gillis' seemingly poor moves than Gillis does. That's just speculation on my part. I've cooled off after the trade dead line and things don't look all that bad at all. Jensen really helps.
  18. No I have not read every post in this thread. How ever forgive me if this has already been covered. Did Vancouver receive any draft picks in the Luongo trade?
  19. I think a lot of people for get there is a lottery system.
  20. Well, since this thread was started Torts has not been fired nor has Gillis.
  21. Gillis isn't smart enough to trade up.
