Yeah I heard guys on Sportsnet 650 last night talk about the size of Canucks.. Think the average weight was 190 lbs not a heavy big team and not much toughness or grit.

Rick Tocchet will be pushing Allvin to trade for some toughness. and size. Very hard to find players that can play regular and add that toughness Canucks need especially on defence... A player like Graves would be so special 28--6'5--225-- Stay at home D man, adds grit toughness and PK can play 20 mins...

The McWard signing is awesome Cole 21 - 6'1 - 192 lbs RD had a good season as 21 year old.. If. McWard played another 2 seasons every NHL team would be after hime and he might of been the top player available in 2 years.. So awesome Canucks can develop him in Abby for next 1.5 years and he might be NHL ready...

    I could see McWard  in 2yrs getting much stronger 6'1 - 205 lbs ..

I believe I heard John and John saying the Canucks had used something like 16 defensemen this season already. Could it be that the size thing matters? The forwards aren't heavy enough either.

From what I've read about Cole, is that he was a late bloomer and was overlooked due to his 5'10" and 160lbs.

He was described as having a similar style to Quinn Hughes, but nowhere near the skills.  Now that he is

6'1" and 192lbs, I would think his game has changed and he could probably withstand the NHL defensive

game.  Love the timeframe he has for development.

I like this signing adding size Cole McWard -21 - 6'1 - 195lbs RD yes-- --We have so many D men between 5'10 - --6'0

Need to Add a guy like Graves 27 - 6'5 -225 -- very tough stay at home D man...

Hronek is a fabulous player. We are so blessed to have a good GM again who can identify great D (like Gillis did with Errhoff and Hamhuis) and bring in these great players. Hronek was a steal.

I remember these posters on this site when Canucks traded for Miller ? You can't get a top 30 forward Miller W/C  for 2nd and 3rd rounders? cost 1st and 2nd..

Has Miller not be good 99 points last season and this season GP 74 - PTS 75 ?

Same with Hronek 25 Top ranked 29th in points and Ranked 14th RD and not pay with 1st rounder and 2nd rounder. ..Thats what you pay?

First rounders don't always turn out? Canucks needed another top D man Hronek solid D man # 1 D man on some teams.

Also if you draft a 1st rounder 18 years old could be 3- 5 years before he is NHL ready.. Pettersson will be 25 in November and Hughes 24 October..

Hronek  RD - 25 solid NHL D man PK--PP and log 22--25 mins-- Hronek RD man there so hard to find makes trade that much better,,

So what is your point you base your top 30 NHL D men buy points ?

Can all these guys play PK- PP play very solid  defensive zone . Example Barrie not great defensive zone...

Most of these D men are playing with very good players that helps with there points? Did you look at Stats for Detroit players? Larkin and Perron so Hronek 3rd in points when trade was made?

Cant base who are best D men by points ? Scott Stevens was a top D men? I hope you think so..The all around game?

And so be it if Hronek is 29th best NHL player ?? Lets go with that? That means he would be a top # 1 D MAN ON SOME NHL TEAMS?????

How hard is it to find RD man  25 yrs old - Ranked 29th by points ?? Check out that stat for me please??

Sorry I said top 20 D man  for your case .. So 29th D man means he is still very good?????

So there's 32 top RHD and he sits 14th....

    Thanks..

So  Hronek 25 - Ranked 29th in points  and 14th best RD man that  sounds awesome to me..

    Thanks Allvin, very good trade..

Actually we would have to pay more, or (more likely) Hronek isn’t even available. Yzerman found out how valuable Hronek was to their club since gone. Add that to the Islanders’ pick being of lesser value now, at the cost to pry Hronek out of Detroit would be more than we could afford. Thank goodness Allvin made the deal when he did.

Hronek is a top 20 NHL D man and bonus is a RD man, so hard to find and 25 years old another bonus.. Win win..

So much negativity and sarcasm about Hronek.. Hronek played 4 games and played over 20 mins in the games..

Hronek looked good and why play him if shoulder is a little sore... Not making playoffs, great move not playing him any longer..

Hronek will be great for Vancouver...

MARCH 31, 2023 AT 7:56 PM CDT | BY BRIAN LA ROSE 2 COMMENTS

Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek returned to the lineup last week from a shoulder injury but that return was short-lived.  Speaking with reporters today at his pregame press conference (video link), head coach Rick Tocchet indicated that they’ve decided to shut the blueliner down for the rest of the season:

There’s really no reason for him to come back. If this were a playoff game, he’d be in the game, but it’s not a playoff game. Every game is important to us obviously, but not at the expense of… he’s going to have a long time to get his shoulder perfect.

Imo, body mass/weight is more important than height.  If a player is over 6' and over 200lbs, he should have

no problem with the physical aspect of the game (if he's had decent coaching in that aspect of the game).

Most of the players you have mentioned are in that range (including the younger guys that will likely continue

    adding strength to their game).

The smaller players need to have superior speed, IQ and puck-moving skills to be effective in the NHL.  Hirose,

Rathbone and Carrol are in that category, but Hirose has a higher skill level and has a better chance of making

    the NHL.

The NHL and AHL game is changing and we are seeing a growing number of smaller players (with high IQ,

speed and puck-moving skills), having great careers.  Carrol will probably have a similar career as Rathbone

and make his mark in the AHL.

At no point was I saying smaller players can't play in the NHL ? You need size and grit if a team is making the playoffs and we have very few gritty player 200 lbs??

Burroughs  6'0 -195  very gritty and tough -- Juulson 6'2 205  can play that way at times.... both players are really # 6--8 on depth chart.

Hughes - Hronek - Bear -- OEL - Wolanin-- Johansson --All of these player don't play with much grit except maybe Hronek..

OEL will not be moved full no trade clause? Do you remember 3 yrs ago when Coyotes tried to move OEL and he would accept trade to Vancouver and Boston?

Vancouver had Coyotes in the corner and then lost the deal?

Vancouver give 3 players making 3 million each expiring at end of that season?

Vancouver take OEL and 6 yrs at 7.2 million - --Garland gets added

    Vancouver give 1st rounder 9th O/A -- 2nd rounder. ...

Can't see Vancouver buy OEL out until  last 2 yrs of his deal.. Big hit against cap in year 2 and 3 of buyout..

With Andy Carroll signing with Abbotsford and Akito getting an ELC, I really do wonder if Jake Livingstone signs here to complete the trilogy of Minnesota-Mankato signings this Spring for the Canucks.

This is a good signing. I suspect Wolanin will be on the NHL roster all season next season so I expect Hirose will get the opportunity to be on the top pairing in Abbotsford next season.

Allvin/Rutherford are going to slow cook these prospects. The days of rushing a player into the lineup seem to be over and that's for the best.

Well Carrol small already 26 years old 5'11 bottom of Canuck prospect pool...We need some  bigger D men..

    1. Johansson RD -23 - 6'1  2. E. Pettersson 20 -6'3.-- 3.Jurmo 20--6'3 -210 LBS -- Kudryavstev 19 - LD

    AHL prospects - Wolanin 27 LD 6'1  Juulsen 25 -6'2 RD   --Brisebois. 25 LD --Woo 22 RD  --Rathbone 23. LD.  -- Hirose 23 LD

     Schneemann 21 -6'2 - Nychuk 21.        (( Carrol 26 -5'11 -LD ????? Bottom of prospect 26 turning pro...

    Canucks Cap hits

    Hughs $7.85 million - Hronek $4.4 Million

    OEL - $8.25 milliobn . Bear $2.2 Million?

    Gavrikov $5 -6 Million - Myers $6 Million

Thats approx $36 million on 6 D...or $12 million per pairing. Something has to give we can't go the UFA route and pay Myers and OEL.

We need cost controlled ELC's to start moving into the line up.

Myers will be easy to move after his 5 million dollar bonus is paid out July 1st....Myers will be gone..

    Dermott (?) - Bear

    Rathbone - Johansson

    Wolanin - Burroughs

    Brisebois - Juulsen

    LTIR - Poolman

    I think Myers gets traded.

    Dermott will be gone..

    Poolman LTIR.

Myers traded after July 1st- 5 million signing bonus will be paid..Team under cap will be interested as only 1 million owing with 6 million cap hit..Will help lower team reach this.

    Teams like Coyotes, Ducks..

Bear 1 yr X 2.3  million -- Show me more deal

    1. Hughes -- Bear RD

    2. OEL -- Hronek. RD

    3. Wolanin -- Johansson RD --- 7. Burroughs LD  8. Juulsen RD -- Brisebois LD -- Vancouver will try and sigh another stay at home D man for Hughes ?

I am a Kelowna Rockets fan and want Cal Foote to be a success.  However, he is 6.5 225lbs and is 24 but hasn't got his career going.  I am not saying he is a bust, but I am not sure he brings any more than Juulsen.  If we are able to land Livingstone, I think that he might have more upside.  We also have to deal Myers and Poolman moreso than Garland.

I agree with you 100 %, I really thought Foote would of been a top 4 D man by 24. He went to Nashville and basically playing 15 mins a game.

Juulsen 25 - 6'2--200lbs has been playing very well in 12 games beside Hughes.

Some people are saying Foote has more value then Garland?? Sorry Garland is a top 6 forward on lots of teams and Foote is a # 6 or # 7 D man right now.

I really think Filip Johansson 23--6'1 -190 lbs -RD  might make Canucks out of training camp?

Would really like to see Vancouver sign a free agent D man out of college..Maybe Livingstone 23 - 6'3 - RD one of the best D men in college...

Foote is averaging 15.3 minutes on Nashville.. Hope Foote becomes a top 4 D man one day..I would trade for Foote he does add size and toughness and a RD men are hard to find..

    Josi  25 mins - Barrie  21 mins -- McDonagh - 21 mins. -- Carrier 18 mins -  Fabbro 16.5 -- Lauzon 16.5 --Foote 15.3

    To VAN: Cal Foote

    To NSH: Conor Garland

    Why for NSH?

Nashville trade a 3rd pairing Dman for a top 6 winger. After trading away Granlund and Niederreiter at the TDL, they could do with some more top 6 talent. NSH have depth at RD in Carrier, Barrie and Fabbro.

    Why for VAN?

Foote has potential to be a top 4 Dman. He is big and is a defensively responsible player. VAN resigns Foote (RFA) to a $2.15m x 2 years contract. If anyone beats that with an offer sheet, then we receive a 2nd round pick as compensation. Foote has potential to be our long term partner for Hughes.

My preference is also to resign Schenn as a UFA so that Hughes has both Foote and Schenn to pair with until such time that Foote can handle the 5v5 minutes.

    D next season:

    Hughes Foote

    OEL Hronek

    Brisebois Schenn

    (Wolanin Burroughs Juulsen)

    Thoughts?

    Not sure if Foote 24 - 6'4 - 215 lbs is a top pairing D man?

Might get Livingstone 6'3 RD when NCAA tourney is over?

I agree Bo got over paid, glad it wasn't us. We coul have used him but for around 7m at most imo.

The key thing people are forgetting to mention when comparing stats is NYI are winning quite a bit since Bo arrived AND Barzal has been injured for most of that time. Take Pettersson away from Vancouver's lineup and do you honestly think Beau's stats are as good as they are?!? Chances are they would be lower without a healthy Petey

I have always thought Horvat is a very good player say GP 75 - G 26-30 --PTS 60-65 PTS-- WORTH 6.9--7.4 million X 8 yrs

Horvát was on a pace for 60 G-- 96 PTS at one point.... He is not a 70 point guy. His pace is more normal now.

    2022-23 Van. - GP 49 - G 31 - PTS 54 -- One time thing.

    2022-23 NYI -  Gp 19- G  5 - PTS   9 ---36 point pace now playing under pace he should be at --  (  60--65 point guy )
