  1. He's a scorer, despite claims he's a playmaker. No, he has eyes for goal and nothing else. Guy can pick out a top corner on a backhander on a breakaway or with 2 guys on him, for God's sake. You can't evaluate all prospects the same way, and Virtanen's definitely a top 10 this year. How many have even watched Virtanen play, I wonder The only question is, a player like Virtanen flourishes in a minimal-contact, open-ice type of hockey, due to his skate and shoot mentality. How that translates into the dead puck era NHL is a different story altogether.
  2. Maybe he was injured mid-thread and had to play more defensively
  3. They can't fire Torts after this, so I'm okay with that
  4. Torts reaction to MG interview + his own opinions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTa60JNF6B4 Very impressive how Torts manages to whip the media while staying calm and rather jovial. For a young team with less proven talent and just coming off the worst season of this generation, a guy like Torts will be invaluable in terms of nullifying media scrutiny and controversy.
  5. That's Burrows' reputation, not the hit. Pretty sad that his record is still on file compared to others, though
  6. Garrison is one of those players who don't play very well but manage to get points. Edler has made more mistakes that cost the team (goals), but in terms of reliability Garrison is not good against good forwards. He is always a step behind mentally and while he skates hard, his defending is too honest, too predictable. He needs to play more like a Hamhuis to be worth his contract, because at this point Ryan Stanton is a much smarter D-man.

  8. The contact was the head AND the shoulder, so not sure what bs Shanahan will pull. That said you do see Niederreiter's elbow come up after the impact as though he was focusing he blow towards Burrows' head. It looks more intentional than not, so it merits a suspension in my book
  9. Two (rather) surprising goals from Booth, shots 2:1 in favor of Minny, Edler saves a goal. Yes, it's 3-1 but it really could be 3-3 or 4-3 if things went a little south.
  10. This really reflects where we were in 2011...
  11. Jensen is what Raymond wants to be, and it's just amazing how good this guy looks already
  12. Horvat is first rounder, will be elite Not even close to the worst trades ever for the team You just can't please CDC. Keep Lu, and MG sucks for keeping the contract. Trade him for younger players and he sucks because they retain what, 800k? Give me a f***ing break.
  13. Walk in the park. While being on fire. And being forced to listen to Nicki Minaj. During a level 5 hurricane.
  14. We probably won't be able to score more than 2, which means we are probably going to lose. I'm ok with that, just this once
  15. If NYI trade their youth for veterans, how will they make the playoffs years later?
  16. You're saying a rebuild will involve the team's worst ever meltdown in franchise history? You're saying "getting mad" is a sign of being a bandwagoner? You do realize, that the Canucks conceded 7 goals in one period right? Seven? That's a little bit worse than losing.
  17. And when he makes his first mistake, this fanbase will run him out of town like everyone who was ever involved with this team?
  18. I'll probably be watching (from the Toronto area), but in all honesty what are the chances of the Canucks scoring a goal, let alone winning?
  19. MG moved the "diva", not you, and along with him went a relatively tolerable contract actually (the only bad thing is the term, not the cap hit). This may be an upgrade at center but that's because this team has no depth down the middle. MG also gave up the team's entire goaltending for a THIRD LINE/FRINGE SECOND LINE center who is less proven than Booth and a goalie prospect with crappy numbers and an injury to boot. If you want to go by pedigree or potential alone, Markstrom is up there but in reality he isn't worth much more than a high 2nd rounder at this point. I can't believe you think losing Diaz was the worst thing that happened. Diaz is a non-factor here. Lu, on the other hand...
  20. Let's confirm this is even a proper rebuild before you bring up technicalities. The fact of the matter is that trading the players this team has got will not fetch much. A proper rebuild is to acquire top picks and/or quality young players, and this trade did neither of that. All it did was make the team worse defensively and more redundant in the bottom 6. Why trade players when they are all underperforming and/or injured for any reason? It was illogical to participate in the first place; none of the current players hold trade value close to what they actually are. Unless you want mediocrity in the future, in which case yes, this trade was great.
  21. This Lu trade apparently marks the start of a rebuild. Now, I'm not saying it isn't, but I am saying that this seems like a pretty bad way to start one. Matthias is 26. So yes, he is just entering his prime. However, he has also not played a single full 82 game season and hasn't even scored 100 points yet. He played on the PK for FLA, so he's apparently defensively conscious, that said, he is a career -18. In perspective, Hansen is a +40 despite being -3 this season. Matthias big size, great speed and good hands. Think of him like a more refined version of David Booth with slightly better stickwork. So it seems like he will be a 2nd liner at best (though probably not because his style of run and gun hockey is much harder in the West). It's safe to say he isn't replacing Kesler or Henrik, so he's not more important to this team now or in the future as much as Jannik Hansen (27) is. We don't get any D prospects (MG needs to address this or the next Canuck team will be just as dismal), and the only real youth we actually get is a goaltender prospect (not really as important right now). We only have 1 grade A prospect in Horvat, so this trade doesn't make us better off in the future at all! The ironic thing is, the rebuild might as well have started with the trade of Schneider when we got an actual future star player. This trade doesn't do anything for us now or the future. Lastly, what pains me the most, is that we are now substantially worse (I would trust Lu down the stretch over Lack any day), but not so bad that we will get a high pick. As of right now this team reminds me of the Leafs from a few years back - always missing the playoffs by a spot or two, and not getting a high draft. MG, this better be only a part of your plan, because right now you've put this roster in no-man's land.
  22. I think you're on the opposite side of the spectrum. Yes, it's true that MG just made a big trade. But in how long? What is the situation now? Basically we have no proven goalie now, and the biggest name is Shawn Matthias, who to me, looks like a more refined David Booth with slightly better puck control. He isn't a prolific scorer, and won't make the 2nd line better if he even plays on it. We already have way too many 3rd liners as well. Sure the trade isn't bad considering Luongo's recent past, that said this trade is brutal for us. We're arguably weaker now by a lot, but not so bad/young that we get a high pick.
  23. 1. Sad that the best goalie we ever had is gone 2. For Shawn Matthias and a goalie prospect? What a fail of a trade
