  1. I would strongly consider all the players mentioned so far except Girard. There was a proposal about a week ago, 11th overall for Byram, most were against it with Byram's injury history but I would consider that trade. We'd have to pay both him and Hronek but we would be set at RHD for the long haul.
  2. Not at all surprising. Hall even after his Hart trophy season still produces at a pro-rated clip of 61 points/82 games. Last year was clearly a drop off in production but he was also behind a rather stacked forward group, he will get lots of PP1 time with the Hawks and I would expect a bounceback season from him. 6M is not too expensive for Chicago and they get a talented player to plug in beside Bedard.
  3. We wouldn't need to have a night celebrating anyone's sexual preference if it were not for the many homephobes out there. Just like we wouldn't need Black history month if it were not for the many racists out there. But seeing as there are people still hold their hatred as a badge of honour, we must persist with efforts to bring into focus the plight of marginalized communities. Personally I have never been persecuted as a heterosexual man so I don't see the need for it, but if you have had a different experience then you are free to create your own "night". In general though past efforts to create such a night have gone quite poorly, it tends to draw all sorts of weirdos (incels, misogynists etc.) so I would personally avoid it like the plague.
  4. You are right, 'attacking' was a stronger word than I intended on using. I am not trying to discourage you from posting your ideas in this forum even though IMHO they are far too favourable from our perspective than the team we are trading with. While I do think cap space is valuable it doesn't mean teams will jettison good players like Debrusk for ex. for mediocre returns.
  5. No one except Petey and Hughes is untouchable but I don't see the point of trading JT unless the pieces coming back are of a quality that makes up for some of the lost production. Considering the moves this team has made recently, the return needs to be more than just cap space and futures.
  6. Yikes, sounds like I did hurt someone's feelings. Lol. I did not say you need to accept anyone's opinions as fact. What is the point of posting a proposal if it is not to get feedback on it? What is the point of then attacking and dismissing someone who goes to the effort of actually posting feedback? The funny thing is you go into random threads in the trades/signings forum and you take passive aggressive shots at someone trying to give you some constructive criticism. I am just going to keep it simple, I think your proposals are stupidly one-sided and would probably not even work in NHL 23.
  7. OP's logic of coming up with trade proposals is seeing which teams need to make moves in order to move cap then offering them pennies on the dollar based on the idea that we are bargaining from a position of strength. Wait... do the Rangers need to move cap? Well lets offer them Rathbone, Garland and Silovs for Schneider and Goodrow, this stuff might actually work in a video game but it never works in real life. The problem is that Boston has 20 other teams that they can negotiate with instead of taking lesser assets. Talent is way more valuable than cap space, if it wasn't we would see a team like Chicago clean up in the trade market but that doesn't happen. The Hawks with all that cap space will still have to trade assets in order to acquire decent players. It would be one thing if the OP actually took the feedback well and decided to use it to create better proposals but that doesn't happen, he goes into denial mode and starts calling out posters that took the time to post legitimate feedback like mll in random threads.
  8. Why did the exact same roster fail to perform under one of winningest regular season coaches ever this season? Coaching can only make so much of a difference, talent matters a lot more. You are only as good as your record says you are. A lot of teams records would look much better if you chose to take the best 50 game sample size.
  9. True, but at least Dana White doesn't deny that there is a direct causation between fighting in the UFC and CTE. Gary the weasel on the other hand...
  10. Personally I wouldn't place too much blame for OEL on the twins. I would liken them to be more like character witnesses in a trial. If there was a miscarriage of justice, there would be quite a few parties you would place blame upon before you arrived at them. Another equivalent situation is if I were to recommend my buddy for a job, I would only be able to speak about the person based on character and general work ethic. At the end of the day its the job of the person doing the hiring process to determine if he is a good candidate for the role. Benning was trying to trade for OEL for more than a year, and was going to use anything possible to pump his tires.
  11. White isn't wrong that the NHL is filled with "old, dumb f—ing people". He also isn't wrong that the NHL has no idea how to appeal to younger fans and that their marketing is dog****. However comparing power slaps Youtube views to the NHL's as evidence of its success is just plain disingenuous. And White knows this, but he has to say stupid **** like this as a promoter.
  12. If you are as old as you claim to be, at least figure out the difference between "your" and "you're", if you are going to go around referring to people as "twit", "stupid" or "idiot". But that's not really surprising, in my experience the people who are most prone to insult other's intelligence are often projecting their own inadequacies. Also I never did say that every one of Benning's moves was bad, I just stated my opinion that Benning was an awful GM, whose stupid, shortsighted moves have handcuffed this franchise long after he was fired. A good example is the recent OEL buyout which will be on the books for the next 8 years. Also I stated something that was true, you were a Jim Benning fanboy who ran around insulting anyone who criticized those moves. If you were not "agreeable with everything JB did" then please post evidence of all the times you criticized his moves.
  13. So you believe only your subjective opinion is correct and everyone is stupid or "regurgitating the media b.s."? If so, that's a stunning level of delusion and arrogance. I am not the one that has been defending Benning on this forum for years despite his stupid, short-sighted moves. I remember you insulting everyone who even mildly criticized Benning. Where's Benning now? How many jobs has interviewed for since he was let go?
  14. Except the poster you quoted didn't say it was "all JB's fault". And anyone with a functioning brain is capable of coming to their own conclusions and doesn't need the media to formulate their own thoughts. Stop pretending like you are some sort of genius or higher authority just because you have a different opinion. I could easily follow your example and call you a "stupid fan" for not sharing my subjective opinion that Benning was an awful GM and his actions have screwed us for years to come. Thankfully though I am not arrogant or narcissistic enough to believe such nonsense.
  15. Linden sealed his own fate by taking a job in the first place. Unlike a lot of ex-players he didn't take a front office job and work his way up. He got the job to effectively be a PR shield for this ownership and deflect any criticism from the direction of this franchise. Everyone knew we had to rebuild, but ownership still wanted to milk the last of the Sedin years. In return Linden jumped the line into a role that he probably doesn't get with any another NHL team. Benning had years of experience as a front office executive. He was also in the right place at the right time and won a ring as an assistant GM. Linden made it really easy for ownership to cut him out when he wasn't receptive to short-circuit the rebuild, after all what credibility did he have to be in that job to begin with. I do give him some credit for standing up and trying to do the right thing at the end. Its something that cannot be said for Benning who was a brown-noser until the day he got fired, it did get him 8 years so it probably was a wise career choice.
  16. That was my point, there are no excuses in sports. If you are healthy enough to play then you had better deliver or you have failed. Good teams find ways to win games despite adversity. All I see you do is find excuses to deflect failure from Jim Benning. From your history of emotional outbursts about this topic, I think you are a bigger fan of Benning than you are the Canucks. I confess I find it quite baffling this attachment that you feel towards a GM that is considered a joke among most fans who follow the sport. No one... I will repeat it, absolutely no one... wants their team to hire Jim Benning.
  17. You can write off the 2020-2021 season but be sure to then write off the 2019-20 season as well, as who knows if the Canucks even make the playoffs without the play-in. Not to mention the round 1 opponent being a Blues team that was ravaged by COVID. You can't have it both ways.
  18. Except Pietrangelo didn't leave the penalty box illegally, he was let out because the period was over. It was the job of the official to let him out as the penalty expires when the game is over. The official should not be holding Pietrangelo in the box after the penalty is over. Even if what you said was true that the official shouldn't be letting him out, its still not Pietrangelo's fault. In addition to what I quoted earlier, So rules also indicate that its not the players fault if the official makes an error and lets him out earlier than he is supposed to. Also when it is a 6v4 brawl happening (not counting the goalie), it would be cowardly for Pietrangelo to turn his back on his teammates. I would be inclined to agree if Pietrangelo went out there and actively instigated a brawl. I am not accusing you of Vegas hate, personally I am cheering for the Panthers have been since the playoffs started but I don't see a suspension being warranted in this instance. Pietrangelo should have gotten a lot more than the 1 game he got earlier in the playoffs but I have given up on this league ever getting the supplemental discipline right, these playoffs have again highlighted how much of a gongshow the officiating in this league is. There is no professional league where there is such a drastic difference between how the regular season is officiated and how the playoffs are officiated.
  19. You are twisting yourself into a pretzel to defend Benning. On one hand you argue that much of the talent on that roster was aging out of the NHL and then you blame Gillis for not "extending our window". Boston's core was younger than the Canucks, Bergeron, Krecji, Marchand, Lucic were just coming into their prime. Chara was getting up there in years but still had a few good years left in him. Thomas was on the way out but the Bruins had a franchise goalie in Rask who was ready to take over. The Bruins were in a good position to retool, the Canucks were clearly an aging team and there was nothing Gillis could have done that could have stopped father time. After the disastrous Tortorella year, they should have rebuilt and Gillis had the foresight to see that coming. Instead the ownership hired Benning to do a retool which predictably failed. Also the same logic applies to Benning that you used against Gillis, if Benning was such a great GM you would think he would have had an interview for a front office job. Instead he is sitting on his couch counting the millions that he earned swindling this team into giving him 8 years on the job. A mediocre GM like Dubas lasted like a couple of weeks before he was snapped up, why hasn't Benning the draft whisperer not even been interviewed for a job?
  20. You will need to post the rule as there is nothing that I can find that states anything about the penalty box being "equivalent to leaving the bench". I believe @Elias Pettersson is correct. There is a rule that states, 'No penalized player may leave the penalty bench except on the expiration of his penalty or at the end of a period.' The period has ended meaning Pietrangelo could leave the penalty box and that point he is no different to any other player on the ice.
  21. Nuggets steamroll the Heat, I think this one appears to be over. I agree that the NBA is entering a very nice era of competitive balance. I am hearing the new CBA should also make it a lot harder for players to flock together to form superteams. Thankfully most players now days have much stronger mental fortitude and a desire to build something special where they are, rather than the two big creampuffs that ruined the last decade of the NBA. Can honestly say I watched more NBA basketball this year than I have in ages.
  22. Goal scorers have always been overvalued in the market as the prevailing wisdom is that its hard to score goals in the current NHL. But if a guy like Bjorkstrand (with that shot), coming off a 28 goal season went for essentially 0 value what hope was there really that we could even give away Garland or Boeser for 'future considerations'. I still believe Beauvillier probably has the most value of the three and I am not even sure we will have any takers until the trade deadline. These are good players but the demand just isn't there and we should not be panicking and do something like that Dickinson trade. Just take our lumps for the year and revisit this situation next off-season. Its not going to be easy making the playoffs without any roster improvements but we cannot afford to further deplete our futures. If there is one legitimate criticism towards this management team is that they chose to invest in more wingers in Mikheyev and Beauvillier when there was a more pressing need to improve in other areas. I like both guys but man I wish we had to cap to take advantage of the current market where more teams are cap strapped than ever and there might be value to be had on the UFA/ trade market.
  23. I am going to say yes, but at least you recognized that the OEL trade was bad. There are some who cannot even admit that.
  24. Was there really need to bump this thread? What exactly is there left to debate about Benning? Go to any hockey forum that actually has non-Canucks fans and he is thought of as an utter joke of a GM. The only people still defending him are digging in their heels and doubling down because they defended his ineptitude year after year and now don't want to admit they are wrong. Only time will tell how good our current management is relative to the competition but at least they are far superior than the bumbling idiots that preceded them.
  25. I don't get the joke. It's an award for off the ice contributions. You don't have to like the player to appreciate him for the work that he does in the community.
