  1. Those ntc, nmc, thats the cost of doing business and they were certainly justified. Did you want the team to reach the finals? Thats what needed to be done. Thats what Kesler, Burrows Hansen, the twins wanted and they got results, best era in Canucks history. Those guys exceeded or at least came close to what their contracts were worth. The Sedins may have not been worth the money they were getting paid in the last few years of Gillis, but they sure as hell exceeded it in the front end. Art Ross, Hart and Ted lindsay says so Can you say the same thing with Sutter, Ericsson, beagle, Rousell, Myers, Poolman and Dickenson (so far)? Not really.
  2. Benning boys and their excuses Had less work with? They made it to the playoffs in Bennings first year, which by the way turns out, was his BESTseason, and he did it with Gillis boys still in the roster.
  3. It is mindboggling. They usually defend it with JBs drafting prowess which has amounted to almost nothing considering JB has the lowest winning percentage in comparison to Quinn, Gillis, Nonis and Burke
  4. ironically enough, wasn't JR the GM when the Pens got Tanner Glass?
  5. They also didn't have guys like Bryan Dumoulin, Ian Cole, Carl Hagelin, Kessel, Bonino etc. too. People are idiots if they think if you have high end talent, all of a sudden, you're a shoe in for a cup (ie: oilers, leafs). It takes more than the upper echelon talent to win the cup, the surrounding cast have to be decent and play well in the roles they are given. I can tell you for fact, Penguins don't win those 2 cups without the Hagelin, Kessel Bonino line.
  6. I implore people to go to Rogers arena and actually look at the rafters. There's ZERO banners there that has anything to do with Jim Benning.
  7. What did you expect? 8 straight stanley cups? LOL. At least they won a cup, Gillis took us one win away from winning one. Benning's tenure, you can hardly call us a wild card team, let alone cup contenders
  8. That hold on Wilson was BS, thats a pretty light call. Had the Bengals won, I know Tee Higgins played well tonight, but there couldve been a serious case for Logan Wilson being the SB MVP (had they won)
  9. Yup, i dont get why Zack taylor had Perine in there. Joe is better in every way shape or form, running or catching the ball better than Perine. Samaje Perine is CFL material
  10. Aaron Donald was absolutely robbed of superbowl MVP. Donald basically took over the game in the 4th quarter. Aaron Donald is in the conversation now of the greatest defensive player thats ever played the game with Deion, LT, Reggie White
  11. I don't know for the life of me how on the last Bengals drive that Samaje Perine would be on the field over Joe Mixon. Samaje Perine is straight up garbage and should never see the field over Joe Mixon
  12. Hell no. No way Matthews or anybody for that matter would want to play in front of 4000 fans
  13. Picking up the province in the morning was the best way to start the day
  14. You boomer! hahah jk, love the post! Was it that bad in the 80's for televised games ( I wasn't living in Canada yet so i didn't know anything about hockey until the late 80s) I was still in elementary school when sportspage was on. Way past my bedtime at 11pm or was it 11:30? when sportspage was on and I'd tune in to Arsenio Hall show. Remember Donny Taylor's schtick? "Heres Ronning skating down the middle, wearing Gerry Minor's old number 7" He would reference the same jersey number with the most obscure player hahahahha "Murzyn with a shot from the point, in Murznian fashion, puts it top shelf where dad keeps the playboys" One of the more memorable highlights of sportspage was when Randorf was on and they had his screen tag as Bud Bundy for like half the show LOL In the 90's I think we got like 2 games per 1 or 2 weeks, Canucks games was almost must see tv since most were on the radio. I remember being huddled around the radio with my family listening to the game. People tuned in to sportspage because the non televised games, they were the only place where you can see highlights of the game
  15. That was the real cost of the OEL trade, it should already have been inevitable that one or two of Miller, Boeser, Hughes, EP40, Horvat would be gone in the near future. OEL has been good for us, but it was at the wrong time to where this team is. Had the OEL trade happened in the season right after the bubble to supplement the same team WITH Toffoli? Sure I can get on board with that, but clearly the mess of last season showed the team wasn't as good as we thought they were.
  16. They have youtube on their phone, all of a sudden they think they are some sort of scout like Judd Brackett. Prospects are nice, but what does that amount to in the end? Its still to win games. This team hasn't improved enough the last 8 years to think we are even close to winning a division, let alone a cup
  17. Toffoli was left in the cold for months without hardly a peep of an extension. What did you expect, Toffoli was just going to wait on our hapless team? LOL. Somehow the team jumped head first on getting a BACKUP GOALIE (who regretted being here). Get your facts straight and all our players having down years, like i said, sounds like a bunch of excuses How was the team improved after year 1 exactly? The team has consistently finished lower than 20th, hardly even contending for a wildcard, let alone a division title https://records.nhl.com/franchises/vancouver-canucks/year-by-year-record So, Gillis Nonis, and Burke looks like theyve finished below 20th once in their regimes. Benning has managed to do it 5 times LOL
  18. Actually when I was looking at Milbury's track record, you can't help but compare. Benning and Milbury are eerily similar in the moves they've made. Trading futures for immediate help, questionable free agent signings and handing out crap contracts and it all amounted to nothing
  19. Theres one thing you can count on from Benning fanboys, a lot, and I do mean A LOT of excuses. As I was looking at our stats the 8 seasons, I didn't realize that Bennings best year was his 1st when the team was still somewhat Gillis'
  20. Not just one of the worst in Canucks history, he's in the list on one of the worst GMs EVER. When you're name is spoken in the same breath as Mike Milbury who is the WORST of them all, that speaks volumes.
  21. LOL what legacy? Hes' got no banners to show for it in the arena! When Jim Rutherford trims the fat off the $hitty carcass Benning left us and hopefully wins us a cup, nobody is going to remember the Benning era. I feel ya on the 8 years, you're not the only one thats glad that Benning trash is over. Im quietly optimistic on JR and Alvinn
  22. Too bad Jeff Cowan wasn't playing during Bennings era. Knowing Jim, probably would've signed him to a 3 year/ 3million per deal. The only other losers in the Jim Benning era are the player agents. I bet they have Jimbo on speed dial when July 1st rolls around, knowing that idiot is going to massively overpay for their clients Jim Benning fanboys can't face facts, the records of the previous regimes speak for themselves. Lets hope JR digs us out of this hole, looking good so far
  23. The way Toffoli and the other UFA's like Tanev or Markstrom was treated was inexcusable. Benning was the GM, he couldn't even muster a conversation with their agents to fill them in on whats going on? A GMs job is not strictly just to draft, if that was the case, Jimbo should just stick to scouting or playing fantasy hockey or whatever the hell he does. He's near the top (next to the owner) of heading an almost billion dollar BUSINESS and he can't do that. The Toffoli situation stung quite a bit. Its bad enough local media berates Benning because of his dumba$$ decision making, but for the sports world to know how much of an imbecile he is? Thats one of the all time lows in IMO. You can even hear the anger coming out of Steamer in his presser as temp GM. The Canucks brand was just dragged in the mud for WAY too long Damn that Bonino trade, geez. We even added a draft pick to get Sutter. Bonino was decent here, and was under contract for the season after in a very cheap deal. There is no way people can justify that as a win for us. Sutter has been a massive failure. The only foundational about him is his handicap spot in Rogers arena
