  1. Im not sure if hes been better than Pearson, but defintely deserving above the other useless idiots we have on our roster like Dickenson and Chiasson. I don't know why Motte isn't given a chance to be in the top 9
  2. Im not sure about that. When Green was the coach, when they were losing, the whole team just caved. Regardless of the record, under Boudreau, the Canucks for a large majority have outplayed their opponents. That streak of games where the Canucks were letting in 7 goals or something like that, was down right terrible. The effort level was inexcusable
  3. Be glad it wasn't a blow out which I was expecting. The team for the most part played well, but when they made a mistake, the lightning made them pay. Not to suprising. I think the team will be fine going forward. They are at least playing hard. Can't say the same when Travis was coaching where if the team was losing, there was little to no pushback
  4. Unless its for a premier D-man (Heiskenen? <3 dare to dream!) but yeah I think they'll give Petey another year. If JR is going to make any moves, it will probably be minor ones . His big moves won't probably come till the off season unless we are really out of the playoffs
  5. Whatever you say, if drafting is the be all, and all of what makes a franchise successful then theres something wrong with your line of thinking. Don't need to prop Gillis, the results speak for themselves. You've come up full of excuses on why the team hasn't won under Benning. " Anything before 2011 doesn't count for Gillis" LOL. Wah wah we were left with nothing wah wah boo hoo. He had 8 years to do it and failed, and yet hes somehow better because, what he drafted better? Geez. Sorry if i don't feel the same sentiment because I want to actually see the playoffs, not just keep drafting players. The fact that you base a GMs success on just drafting and developing, is assenine. You know winning matters the most right? Benning got his carcass canned because he wasn't winning, Imagine that? the best scout / "drafter" if theres such a word this franchise has ever seen, I'll give Jim that credit, and yet he was shown out the door because he wasn't winning. Thats the be all, end all. If the Canucks don't win, they don't make it to the playoffs. No playoffs, no payoff for Aquallini. As much as we fans don;'t want to admit, Aquas wallet speaks the loudest and doesn't care what our prospect pool looks like. The Canucks team worth have managed to plummet under the Benning regime (look it up) and yet was at its absolute highest with Gillis I think Ive been pretty consistent with my stance. Have you looked yourself in the mirror? Talk about contradiction." Wah wah Mike didn't leave with Jim with anything" Nonis does the same thing to Gillis " oh ok you're trying to prop Gillis" LOL Only difference is one guy managed to take an existing core, like you said, "its up to the next GM to do that" and Gillis did that and came 1 game within winning the cup. You've said yourself, "presidents trophy is an excuse" LOL really? You're complaing about success? What planet are you from? The only reason you've had for Benning not getting any wins because ol Mike didn't leave him anything which is a lame excuse. Funny how you keep harping about all of Bennings draft success and yet fail to even touch on his massive whiffs on many UFAs with absolutely obsurd contracts. You know signing and evaluating ufas is also part of the job description
  6. Did you think Tanev, Markstrom were going to be in still be on the team? You know players age right? Yeah top 10 picks, Gillis only had one of those because his teams were too busy playing in the playoffs. You know drafting and developing players, means the end game is eventually winning and playing in the postseason? Has Benning done that? Few far in between considering we've finished near bottom 3rd of the league. He couldn't expand on the success from the little playoff appearances we've had. Rather than improving, we've gotten worse. Not just slightly worse, not just barely missing the playoffs, like picking in the top 5 of the draft worse. For 8 years, the Canucks were never considered in the ELITE of the league, even parts of Nonis and Burkes teams held that claim. Bennings teams were, "maybe they can get into the wildcard" Gillis didn't have many prospects, if any, but if we were to play the blame game, Nonis didn't exactly leave him with guys knocking on the door. Either way, thats not an excuse, Benning had 8 years to turn the team around, but failed to do so. Correct me if im mistaken, but I believe Benning was here longer than Gillis, Nonis and Burke and still managed to do worse than both of them. We can draft all the top prospects all we want, if we aren't playing in the post season, its meaningless. This team should be better than it is but unfortunately Benning messed that up with the overpaying for UFAs for guys like Dickenson, Rousell, Player Name etc. As far as developing players, don't act as if we are just brimming with prospects considering the Comets have churned out like, what? TWO nightly roster players, Demko and the other isn't even here anymore (Gaudette). Juolevi, Lind, Gadjovich, and you want to take it further, Madden and Dahlen, all gone
  7. And a responsible GM makes the playoffs and wins games which for some reason Benning had a hard time doing. Gillis was supposedly bad for the franchise, and yet had the franchise's one of two finals appearances, presidents trophies, hell even division titles Whats Benning have to show for all his drafting prowess? All those top 10 draft picks? Nothing This can go on and on, agree to disagree. You have ur view, i got mine so i dont really give a rats a$$ what you think
  8. And youve chimed in with nothing to offer. Go follow your own advice and hit that ignore button, i dont really care what you need to say
  9. Poor selection of a coach? Gillis and management had a week long interview to decide if AV was keeping. Thats on Gillis for keeping him on board and he won the adams trophy to boot Gillis job wasnt to build it for the next guy, his job was to win games, which he did a lot of. Aquallini hired him to win and make him some money and that he did with the numerous playoff revenue, sold out ticket sales, merchandise sales, Aqua was basically swimming in money. I think any owner will take that over the constant losing under the Benning era
  10. Maturing as a team? During Burke and Nonis time, their teams were trying to win the cup, not just make it to the playoffs. Youre acting as if they all had kids and just had a steady build to one magical ride. Nonis and Burke mortaged a lot of picks during the tail end of their tenures to keep it going but didnt work out. Thats how it is, theres going to be a drop off. Its the next gms job to work with what he had. Nonis added luongo and drafted edler, schneider etc., Gillis added a couple of top 4 dmen and good support players. They werent the Oilers who just sucked year in and year out getting high picks and collecting prospects setting up Gillis for success
  11. Semin was a great player when he was on, which was too far in between most times. He was basically Kovalev with a better shot
  12. Oh yeah, Gillis was absolutely atrocious in the draft table. He was trying to reinvent the wheel with Mallet, and some other off the board picks they had. But in the end, I'll take a bare cupboard with numerous playoff appearances, than a full prospect pool hoping to build that one shot at the cup. A lot of people in this city would rather see hockey being played in April and May rather than sitting around, watching the other teams in the playoffs, talking about how we have some goof prospect of ours in college scoring points.
  13. Benning had 8 years here. Gillis, Burke, and Nonis were a combined what? 16 years approximately, and yet the Benning regime has had more failures than all those 3 combined, in half the years. You can even consider Benning being more a failure than the Keenan era. Keenan only had what? 2 seasons? Jim Bennings era was the absolute worst because he had 8 seasons to turn the ship around, hell even make them respectable and managed to turn the franchise into an embarassment. Fans chanting firing the GM, jerseys thrown on the ice, leaders of the team questioning management handling on ice and off ice decisions (covid, ie. JT Miller, Horvat). Yeah, we've had it roses these past few years
  14. Why didn't they have the same success then under Nonis? Every regime are going to have leftovers from the previous one. Nonis inherited, the Sedins, Naslund, Bieksa, Salo, Kesler. Burke inherited, Naslund, Bertuzzi, ,McCabe (who turned to one of the twins)etc, and I think Morrison . See what Im getting at? This can go on and on, some success of the GM is going to get credit. What were the results in that era? Each of those era's had almost distinct cores and players were added to take that core to the next level. Burke and Nonis had pretty good tenures here, don't get that twisted. They added guys like Geoff Sanderson, Taylor Pyatt, Jan Bulis, Keith Carney, hell, Marc Bergevin LOL, etc., many others, NONE of them took the Canucks far in the playoffs, some didn't even get them to squeek them in. Part of a GMs job is take the exisiting core, and try to add players for success. Thats nothing new in the league. The key word is success, ie wins. Gillis mustve done something right if he's managed to get the same core players and somehow ended up being the greatest canuck era of all time. Thats not debatable LOL Erhoff was the only main thing they added? You forgetting Dan Hamhuis? Did you think Hammer was just sitting in the pressbox every other game during the playoffs? I highly doubt that 78% is accurate if your pretaining to just the skaters. Torres, Lapierre, Hamhuis, Erhoff, Higgins all player regular shifts, and Hodgson, Alberts, Tambellini, Malhotra played minor bits. If you thought Erhoff was the only player that did anything, then clearly you didn't even WATCH the 2011 run. Lapierre Torres Hansen was practically the most consistent line, tip to tail, AV trotted them out there every chance he got on matchups. Hamhuis was in the shutdown pairing, and Higgins never left Keslers wing. Torres and Lapierre played HUGE in the final. But then again, you're stat muncher and probably didn't watch the games. Gawd how easy it is these days for you youtubers to act smart
  15. Dazzle is providing some great entertainment with his delusional takes. Hardly call a guy thats still playing in the NHL after what? 8-10 years, gone through a personal crisis and remade himself into a player that many teams would want in their lineup as a "nah" player
  16. He's playing in the NHL up to now, and a good player at that. Did you think every 1st round picks are going to be 50 goal scorers? I can tell you right now, every team in the league would want Kassian on their 4th, maybe even the 3rd line.
  17. Yeah you know whats funny too? The supposed success that youve seen with Benning, half of the years of Bennings tenure, who were the best players with the Canucks? Oh thats right, Horvat, best D-man? Tanev. Best player? MARKSTROM. Those are Gillis' boys. Take those guys away and Benning really only made it to one playoff. We can do this debate all day long, who did what, who inherited what, all you have is excuses. Who won the most?, Who won the least? Don't trip on the mic out the door You haven't answered the question. How has Benning been successful? You seem to be just spewing out excuses on how this team managed to be terrible for the most part of 8 years.
  18. I wasn't a Kassian fan when he was a Canuck, but im rooting for him as an Oiler. The fact that he turned his life around and probably should be considered a mid 3rd line, top end 4th liner, speaks on his progress. How he turned his life around is incredible, he's not going to be that top end power forward that he was meant to be, but hes a solid NHLer thats probably going to be employed for awhile which isn't a bad thing
  19. They have a shot if Hurts plays clean and they pound the ball. Losing Godwin was absolutely huge for the Bucs. Dare I say it, 49ers upsetting the Cowboys? Im rooting for a Cinderalla run for the Steelers (don't think its going to happen)
  20. I agree. That last game, Raiders and Chargers, my gosh, best finish Ive seen in a while with everything at stake. To think the craziness wouldn't have happened had Colts beaten the Jaguars. Im glad Big Ben is getting one last shot in the playoffs
  21. Brandon Staley is the biggest retard in football next to Adam Gase. He should stick to playing Madden the way he coaches. The poor excuse he had saying "we took the timeout to put our best run defence in" LOL, its been already broken down he in fact put the WRONG personnel in after the timeout. The guy is an arrogant loser, and deserved a punch in the mouth from Justin Herbert for robbing him of a chance to be in the playoffs. Chargers shouldn't even be in this position had they taken care of business against the chiefs where they left points on the board because of all the dumba$$ 4th down calls.
  22. Im not giving him all the credit, lets be clear here, but Gillis obviously did something right with the same core, hell with the same COACH, added a few more pieces, change in philisophy and success happened. No doubt Nonis deserved some praise and so did Burke, but you can do that in every regime. Its not like a GM inherits a team and its all his boys all over the roster. But whats factual is the results, why didn't Nonis teams get far in the playoffs, but Gillis did? Whats also fact that as much as Benning has gotten us some pieces, he's also had more failures in his era than the previous 3 regimes combined. In the end, whats the point of having a bunch of young players if we arent even making it to the playoffs, let alone trying to win the cup. The Canucks are in the business of winning, not selling hope every year, we might as well be the Sabres or the Coyotes if thats the route we are heading JR has done a good job so far, but im sure he's going to be tinkering with the roster. The Boudreau hire was a great start, as long as the team keeps churning out wins
  23. I think the difference now is that JR is going to ease the new guy in, rather than that bumbling retard we had as a GM giving away 2nd and 3rd rounders like they were candy for guys like Linden Vey, Gudbranson, Brandon Sutter etc the moment he sat in the GM chair
  24. Unfortunately the gamble failed, but who can blame him? Everything Gillis did turned to gold, nutritionists, sleep doctors, travel schedules, all that stuff was, at that time, cutting edge which a lot of teams since copied. Put Gillis management and JB's scouting, you'd have one hell of a GM which I hope Aquaman and Rutherford will be able to find. The management team as a whole needed to be overhauled, which is being done with Rutherford stating he wanted new, diverse and more voices in the decision making, rather than the 2 man $hit show that Jim and John were running. That Stan Smyl presser was pretty damning, you can almost feel how his beloved Canucks have turned into a massive embarrasment
