That is where we differ. I don't find it overly entertaining to watch a team without direction continuously make poor decisions and be nowhere close to contender status. Not that we deserve a championship, but I'd much rather see the team take steps with a clear plan that could lead to a championship. Our current plan does not achieve this. Our current plan sees us at the bottom of the standings, with no blue chip prospects in the system to look forward to.

I follow all players in the league pretty closely as part of my career. I don't think he is good defensively, and the offense isn't good enough to make up for it. He's just not the type of defenseman worth paying a mid 1st and early 2nd for, and I don't like the timing either. Better to acquire a player on draft day if we wanted to go this route. I think if the Kings can rebuild with Kopitar, Doughty, and Quick, then we can rebuild with Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko.

I understand wanting to compete while Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko are in their prime. However, Hronek is not who we should consider a core piece. His age and point totals make him look better than he is. Given where we are in the standings, I think it makes much more sense to be bad for a couple years, acquire high end prospects with our picks, and use additional draft picks from selling to build up a prospect pool. We need effective players on ELC contracts. Yes we can miss on our picks, but we can also find good players this way. We're taking the same approach as years past -- try to buy our way to the playoffs. Sure, it's with younger players this time, but when the plan is poor from the start, the result will be the same.

We have been attempting this approach for nearly a decade, with little results to show for. So yes, I think it is a lost cause to continue down this road. I don't like the price paid for Hronek, nor the timing. I'd much rather have waited until we knew what was happening with that NYI pick before moving it. If DET said it's now or never, then I'd choose never. Especially paying a 1st and 2nd, that's far too much for us when we have such a thin prospect pool. I also don't think he's this legit top 4 D that some here are claiming. If that were true, DET wouldn't have moved him. Just from watching him play over the years too, I don't like his game, not for the Canucks anyway.

Yep, can't wait till we have an owner that will let us build a team properly. But still, I'm disappointed in how much we paid for Hronek. Even if ownership forces management's hand into buying, it'd be great if we didn't overpay.

Detroit adding another 1st. They're ahead of us in the standings, yet still have the discipline to sell and collect assets to build a better future. This is how it's done. If only the Canucks could see this.

Need a "very disappointing" option in the poll after that awful Hronek trade.

Yes we need to actually develop prospects. Our cupboards are bare. It looked like we were finally heading in the right direction, so to see them change course and do the same thing as we did with OEL is frustrating. If we're to spend picks, don't spend them on guys like Hronek. He is not the legit top 4 D some people think he is.
