  1. Why are people expecting us to all of a sudden win because of the Tocchet hire? Why are posters upset that we're seeing the same team we saw the first 46 games? This game is not on Tocchet FFS. This is 100% on the players/roster, their lazy habits, and lack of leadership/culture. This isn't going to be a quick turnaround. This team has absolute crap habits, and it's going to take alot of buy in from players, roster turnover, and time to change them. Besides, we're tanking anyways!
  2. He's being shopped. Last night over half the league's GM's were in attendance due to the CHL top prospects game. That's why he played so much.
  3. Lol. The president and coach have openly said this time is now to learn better habits and structure, while basically saying they aren't intending to win every game. Are you expecting this team to make the playoffs??
  4. Hey @-Vintage Canuck-the thread title is backwards with where the players are headed This is a classic Avs trade. I like this move alot for them. Merkley could thrive in Colorado and has tons of speed. Nieto is familiar with the Avs organization and is NHL quality depth. Colorado has been icing AHL'ers on their 3rd/4th lines lately with the injuries. Kaut could still become an NHL but the Avs need players who can help in the here and now.
  5. Or even one up in and give an even percentage of 1st overall to all non-playoff teams. This way the goal every season should be to win games and to make the playoffs. No matter what part of the season or how low you are in the standings.
  6. Two weeks before the TDL is nowhere near enough time for the head coach to decide who is buying into the new culture, and who isn't. We're still holding Demko back till the all-star break. Still have a terrible d-corps. I personally don't think piling up wins with this roster is even possible. Ideally this move could have happened a month earlier when we were hovering around .500 but either ownership wasn't ready to pull the plug or there were complications with Tocchet TNT contract. We were never going to finish bottom 3. We will still finish bottom 10. Either way we have a shot at Bedard. I think it's important to manage morale and culture as much as it's important to manage wins/losses.
  7. I think Tocchet will do wonders for this team. We're lazy, poor habited, have barely been held accountable, and quite frankly - broken. Tocchet is going to build a complete team with good habits out of this disaster. I'm not worried about the tank/winning games because I think lots of players on this team are going to get "cut" because they can't fit into Tocchet's system and aren't willing to make the sacrifices needed to be a winner. There is too much 'fluff' on this team to be a winner. I also like how Tocchet mentioned hockey IQ and quickness can put you on top. Too many poor decision makers on this team, and we're about to see who just has poor habits and who actually just sucks. Someone posted earlier about this being a "terrible time for a coaching change", but I disagree. It's the perfect time for the new coaching staff to assess what works and what doesn't. Just enough time before the TDL to move some players who don't fit, and enough time for the guys who will be staying to learn new systems and what the expectations will be going forward. This is chapter one of a new book for this team.
  8. Could be scouting those teams for an entirely different trade. Luke Schenn comes to mind as being a fit.
  9. True but we really have no clue about how good of a coach he actually was. I suspect Yeo was reporting to the cronies about what goes down in the locker room.
  10. Messier era was lower but if the Rutherford/Alvin/Tocchet experiment fails & we're still stuck in the basement in 2-3 years time, then yes. It will certainly be lower.
  11. Hey Canucks fans let's not $#!T on our new coach before he's even introduced. We desperately need some structure here. Give him till seasons end atleast to see what he can do. This team has been letting in 5+ goals on a bi-nightly basis. The system is broken.
  12. Jesus Christ please no. It's not his fault for taking an NHL head coaching job Please, we're trying to decrease the embarrassment of this franchise..
  13. I actually think Tocchet could be a solid coach here. Watching some of his interviews and getting an idea of who he is as a person/coach has me excited. He seems to demand effort from his players but also seems personable. I just hope he is the right fit here.. I really hope so. I'm not sold on his number in Tampa and Arizona being absolutes of his quality of coaching. Tampa was trying to find themselves after Hedman/Stamkos being drafted and an over the hill Lecavalier. Arizona was perpetually young/inexperienced. I am concerned about JR & co simply hiring their croney because they are familiar with him.. so let's hope he's just actually a good fit here. Playing with effort & an edge is what this team has been missing for years so hopefully RT can bring it out of this group.
