  1. Very solid contract. He hasn't been a Norris-level guy for a couple years, but he's still a very good player. I kind of think there's a home team discount here. Reilly wants to win and is taking less for it.
  2. I'm not a fan, but I try to be somewhat patient. Luongo started cold almost every season and though it was frustrating, it became easier to forgive when he would later get two or three consecutive shutouts. There are a good number of indicators that Petey will get going again soon. His shooting percentage is insanely low at just 4.3%--his career average is 16.9%, very very high. That alone should result in way more goals, unless for some reason his goal-scoring ability just evaporated out of nowhere. He's also playing more minutes than he's ever played before. He's averaged about 18:30 in every year up until now, where Green has increased his minutes to about 20:40 per game, closer to regular 1st line forward numbers--so that's both a good sign but also a possible reason for struggles. He may need to adjust to more minutes, which would be compounded by missing all of training camp and most of the pre-season. Another recent positive trends are a face-off percentage that's still horrible, but improving, even if slowly. As I said earlier, he was even worse last year and ended up finishing the season quite strong before injuries cut his run short. In the end, I know you agree with that last point, but I suppose I just prefer to try a more patient approach and focus more on encouraging him to improve rather than focusing on how unacceptable his start is. To be clear, there is a point where patience runs out. If Pettersson never really gets going and finishes the year with 45 points in 82 games or something, then there's something seriously wrong, but until this poor stretch (and it is poor, don't get me wrong) goes for a very extended stretch (I'd say 30+ games), I'm willing to give him some grace.
  3. Quite frankly, I think Pettersson's mediocre start is being blown out of proportion. Yes, he doesn't look great, but it's not like he's the only star who's ever been in a slump. If the slump turns into an entire poor season, then maybe we have something to talk about.
  4. You'd be forgiven for not noticing, given his poor faceoff percentages. Miller sometimes takes the faceoffs instead since he's so much better at it. Petey also did play some wing before arriving in the NHL as well.
  5. It is notable, that when it comes to offense, our shortcoming over the past few years has been a lack of high-end scoring. We have a great 2nd line (at least we did in 2019-20), but to really push our offense to strong levels, we need top players who can score 90+ points. I'm hoping Petey and maybe even Boeser can get to that level some day soon.
  6. Theoretically, the 1st line guy is Petey. I would also say that Kesler was more of a 1B than a second line centre. 2nd line centres don't put up 70+ points unless you're on an incredible team, which we did have at the time.
  7. Maybe the linesman from Cloverdale can give us a few favourable icing calls.
  8. Ref from Philly? I've got my excuses all ready to go.
  9. Hughes currently ranks 6th in the NHL in TOI/game (26:00 per game), which is a huge jump over his previous years. His old average over his first two years was 22:18. So far, I haven't seen any huge negative effects, but I do wonder how long he can keep playing 25/26 minutes per game without ill effects. If he can maintain his level of play, it will be an impressive season for him. Even if his defense isn't amazing, being able to handle an increase of almost 4 minutes per game without further degradation of his game would be good.
  10. Go get 'em Ben. Cheering for you. Just not when you're playing against us.
  11. In my opinion, Rathbone's defensive game needs a lot of sharpening up. He makes some good plays, but too many poor plays for the NHL. Once Hamonic returns, I'd love for him to go to Abbotsford to clean up his overall game.
  12. If Hamonic comes back without any other injuries to our d-core, I'd like to see Burroughs stay on the bottom pairing. Rathbone's youth is wasted as a #7 guy, so I'd like him sent to Abbotsford to work on his all-around game. I'm not sure on the pairings, but we'd have Poolman, Burroughs, Myers, and Hamonic as right shots, so one pairing would need two right shots. I'd suggest the following: Hughes-Hamonic OEL-Myers Burroughs-Poolman Schenn That d-core actually looks pretty solid to me.
  13. But my point is after that, he scored 19 points in 19 games. Don't worry, he'll be fine in the end.
  14. I don't expect that Gary would force punishment on Quennville, but that the Panthers may see it as untenable to keep him on their staff. Gary's pathetic $2M punishment already showed us how scared he is to anger the big money guy Wirtz in Chicago. He works for the owners and a big fish like Wirtz isn't one he wants to anger, no doubt. I think if guys that are no longer on Chicago are to be punished or fired, it would be by their respective teams.
  15. In my mind, this is different than some dumb quote or action by a guy from 10 years ago where someone made a dumb move a long time ago and since regretted it. By keeping this a secret all those years, every one of those men was actively continuing to do Beach wrong. I'll be very disappointed if no more heads roll, so to speak. Maybe not everyone will be fired, but I really see this as a huge indictment on Quennville's character. If Babcock can lose his job, so can Quennville.
  16. At the very least, the regular push to acquire character guys suggest that. That said, no one's perfect and I've seen bigger shockers. I really respect Toews, but if he knew about this and didn't defend Beach or push things to management, that definitely lowers him in my esteem. I couldn't imagine the Twins letting something like that go unpunished.
  17. As sad as is it will be to see some of the gross underbelly of professional hockey, I hope this is a step towards opening this stuff up and getting it out. I know Quennville is a great coach as far as results go, but I can't see how Florida can keep him after this. Fehr is probably gone too. I'm not sure what role Cheveldayoff had, but he might also be gone. The truth is that almost everyone working in the NHL is extremely passionate and to even be at this level, you need to have an almost unhealthy dedication, so it's not entirely surprising that these people would misprioritize winning over someone's security and mental health.
  18. https://records.nhl.com/records/skater-records/seasons-and-games/most-consecutive-games-played Yandle seems to have the longest active streak at 926 games. If he plays every game this year, he'll be the first NHL player to play 1000 consecutive NHL games. This site seems to indicate that Kessel is currently at 906 games. I never knew he had such a long streak going. The next active streak on the list is Brent Burns with 603 games, but the list doesn't go below the top 28 all-time streaks. EDIT: https://records.nhl.com/records/skater-records/seasons-and-games/most-consecutive-games-played-active-streak This list shows active streaks. It says Horvat's streak is actually 250 games and is currently the 14th longest active streak. Hilariously enough, Tanev has a streak of 131 games going right now.
  19. Just did some looking and noticed that Bo is building up a bit of an ironman streak. If I'm not mistaken, he's played in 238 straight games. He hasn't missed a game since January of 2018. Must be something with Canuck centres (Linden, Morrison, Hank). EDIT: According to this (https://records.nhl.com/records/skater-records/seasons-and-games/most-consecutive-games-played-active-streak), it's actually 250 games.
  20. Jovo was the OG d-man in front of the net from my childhood.
  21. For what it's worth, Petey had 1 goal and 1 assist for 2 points in his first 7 games last year. He's actually playing better than that this year with 1 goal and 3 assists for 4 points in 7 games.
  22. Mixed feelings, but closer to cringe. I love that they're recognizing their history with the Metros, but I don't like the idea of claiming that Cup as their own. It's a Seattle Cup, but not a Kraken Cup. I would feel the same way about a Millionaires banner. I would say maybe have a space in the arena where you can learn about Metropolitans history, but don't bother with a banner.
  23. "Resignation". Sure. $2M isn't nearly enough for this. Either way more money or a hockey-related punishment should be doled out as well.
  24. He had a heck of an AHL career for sure. Well deserved.
  25. Wouldn't be surprised if he holds his job over Dowling.
