  1. Here are the stats for some of their divisional rivals from 2014 to 2019. I have included the number of drafted D's and F's that have contributed to these games and productivity numbers. Edmonton's numbers are quite skewed by McDavid and Draisaitl. TOTAL GAMES TOTAL PRODUCTIVITY Edmonton ( 8 D and 6 F ) 2034 1540 Calgary ( 4 D and 6 F ) 1907 964 San Jose ( 4 D and 14 F ) 1598 686 Los Angeles ( 8 D and 10 F ) 1623 473 Anaheim ( 4 D and 10 F ) 2268 821 Vancouver ( 6 D and 10 F ) 2077 988
  2. I don't know Jan, there aren't many 20 year old D-men playing in the NHL at that age. Add on that he has played 20+ minutes in his past 3 of 4 games, scoring at almost 0.5 PPG, and having 9 hits in his past three games and I think you may have a Blue Chip argument. The only thing I could say against him being Blue Chip is that he may not become a real driver of play but I really think he is a heck of a prospect.
  3. I understand their projections change each and every year from the time these players go thru their Bantam draft until they are 23-25. The players you have listed are all very young with the oldest being 23, they were all selected in either the 1st or second round so I would expect all of them to be at least projected to be a #3 at this point unless they have seriously tailed off since their draft year. I don't think any of them have so I would expect all to be at least an "A" prospect at this point in time. Team expectations would likely see their floors being 1 level lower. So when you rank these players as A/B or B/A you are pretty much saying the same thing I think.
  4. The below is a chart showing the % of drafted players that have made it to the NHL 2004 to 2020. I have included the Vancouver % for the Jim Benning drafts in red and this would suggest Benning did fine with his drafts. By comparison, we were below the NHL average each and every year from 2006 thru 2013. Draft Year Percentage Played in NHL 2004 44 Vancouver 57.1% 2005 48.2 Vancouver 66.6% 2006 42.7 Vancouver 40.0% 2007 45.9 Vancouver 0.0% 2008 50.7 Vancouver 40.0% 2009 55.2 Vancouver 42.8% 2010 50.1 Vancouver 20.0% 2011 59.2 Vancouver 50.0% 2012 51.2 Vancouver 40.0% 2013 48.8 Vancouver 35.0% 2014 44.2 Vancouver 71% 2015 46.9 Vancouver 42.8% 2016 34.6 Vancouver 33.3% 2017 26.7 Vancouver 62.5% 2018 12 Vancouver 16.6% 2019 5.5 Vancouver 22.2% 2020 0.9 Vancouver 0.0%
  5. Jan, I am not sure I completely agree with your definitions. I see your definitions for the A,B and C prospects as "projected floors" at this stage of their development. Otherwise, aren't you saying that all #1 and #2 D-men only come from Elite Prospects?
  6. And you don't think the Oiler fans were making fun of us when all those things happened? Right or wrong, this is what passionate fan bases do.
  7. Yup, he was....... McDavid later joined the York-Simcoe Express, a team in Aurora, Ontario, where he was coached by his father, Brian; the team would win four Ontario Minor Hockey Association championships.
  8. Kane had more TOI than McDavid last night. McDavid was 5th in TOI for their forwards........maybe that's why Tippett got axed.
  9. Didn't this guy get a hat trick against us when he was with Calgary? Maybe an exhibition game?
  10. That still wouldn't change the fact they could not afford to renew Miller's contract. Minnesota would have to be going all in for the Cup this year or next to make that deal and I don't see that happening Jan.
  11. Because of the massive buyouts for Suter and Parise increasing next year they are only going to have $11.2M in cap space while still needing to sign 9 more players. Those figures already include the deletion of Rask's, Fiala's and Goligoski's contracts. They simply cannot take on a contract like Miller's and definitely could not afford to re-sign him as their cap situation is even worse the following year.
  12. Minnesota cannot afford Miller next year and beyond as the dead cap hit for Suter and Parise goes to $12.7M next year and to $14.7M the following year. Minnesota will be looking to shed salary as opposed to taking on Miller's contract. Even the Rangers are going to be looking at shedding cap for next year. They currently have $9.7M in cap space for next year but still need to sign 8 more players to fill their roster. The trade values may be in the ballpark but only if we are able to take salary back, particularly with Minnesota.
  13. I don't think there has ever been a season on CDC where the consensus was that the Canucks are young enough, big enough or tough enough. I don't expect that will ever change.
  14. I am calling BS on that chart. The chart indicates that a 18-19 year old will be as productive as a 30-31 year old. Who exactly are all of these 18-19 year olds that are scoring at more than 80% of their peak 24 year old production.
  15. I guess everyone must think Pittsburgh is a serious Cup contender over the next couple of seasons. Otherwise I can only assume that Carter has to be traded for assets............at least that's what most of CDC would say. Your comment of "only way to make a great team is to trade everyone away" is a very good assessment of the viewpoint of many on CDC. Yup, gotta believe we should follow that successful model down there in Arizona.
  16. Every team in the NHL is close to the same average height. There are 7 teams that have an average height of 6'2" and everyone else is at 6'1". Vancouver Canucks average height = 6'1" average weight = 196 lbs. Florida Panthers average height = 6'1" average weight = 195 lbs. I never hear that Florida is too small to compete in the playoffs and need to get bigger. https://www.eliteprospects.com/league/nhl/teams-physical-stats/2021-2022
  17. Recall waivers were eliminated with the 2012 CBA agreement. Re-Entry Waivers Re-entry waivers, as explained above, were a product of the CBA prior to 2012. They are no longer in effect in the current 2013 CBA. They were written to prevent teams from stashing ringers in the AHL.
  18. Edmonton would not consider Halak an upgrade on Smith, assuming he could get healthy. They probably wouldn't mind Halak as insurance but they would only take him for next to nothing. They wouldn't see him as anything other than a stop gap and definitely do not want the cap hit for next year with Nurse's new contract kicking in. There are lots of goalies on non-payoff teams that could be available for far less than a 1st round pick. We could argue whether or not they are as good as we think Halak is but they are available. Personally, I would approach Columbus and see which of their two goalies they might part with for the right price. Perhaps a trade that includes McLeod for Korpisalo. I do think that is the type of deal that they will more likely get done in the off-season though.
  19. And you think adding Halak and Chiasson would stop that from happening? Gotta give you full marks for the ask though.
  20. Jan, I think you must be sharing drinks with Alf...........not a chance Edmonton would even give you a 5th round pick for that package.
  21. RNH signed a below market contract because he wanted a full NMC.....he isn't going anywhere.
  22. He is making $6M ($5.3M cap) a year now having his 2nd best season on a PPG basis. Unless there is no market for him I just don't see us affording him.
  23. You had me worried that my abacus skills were sub-par as well. I think you used our 31 shots in place of the 33 for Carolina to arrive at 78 vs 80. Oh, and I agree our shooting % sucks.......
