  1. Yup, but in that same first round they got K’andre Miller who looks like he’s going to be a beast, and Nils Lundkvist who they were able to flip for another first. You won’t hit on all your picks which is why accumulating them is a good idea. I think Rags fans are more concerned with their first and second overall picks in Lafreniere and Kakko being potential busts.
  2. I am not saying its the same. But Verstappen asked who the Canucks equivalent would be, and given the current overview of the organizations, that would be my answer.
  3. Pay no attention to the Hurricanes fans threatening to blow up the homes of Panthers players, it’s a ruse. The Canucks have the ONLY fanbase that could do something untoward.
  4. Yes. Please. People will never let it go. Juolevi was the wrong pick. Great. In hindsight that’s super obvious. At the time it wasn’t. Juolevi was taken right around where he was projected and there was concern around Tkachuk that he was a passenger on the Dvorak-Marner line. People act like this is the equivalent of taking a projected 7th rounder over McDavid. Every team has draft gaffes, it is not a phenomenon unique to Vancouver. We got Hughes that way. Hell we got Bure because no other teams did their homework and realized he was draft eligible. Two years prior to the Tkachuk draft, Calgary took a career ECHLer as the first goalie off the board, allowing us to snatch up Demko right after. So let’s just call it even and stop crying about Tkachuk.
  5. I get where you’re coming from, and I know Seattle is supposed to be our “rival”, but I don’t think it’s fair to compare Rogers Arena with one that just received a billion dollar renovation. I’ve heard the viaducts around Rogers may get torn down, in which case it would provide the opportunity for an expansion, at least of the concourse. I don’t really see Rogers Arena ever getting replaced, land is at too much of a premium and it’s already in an ideal downtown location. I expect it to just get major renos going forward like what happened to Madison Square Garden.
  6. You’re not going to find a one-for-one analogue, because players and organizations are not the same (as much as Calgary inexplicably wants to copy Vancouver). But Higgins is the closest equivalent.
  7. As far as guys currently in the organization, probably Chris Higgins.
  8. There are. They are even emblazoned with the words “PLEASE DO NOT LEAN FORWARD”. Unfortunately I don’t know the percentage of our fanbase that can read.
  9. Yeah that’s honestly why I prefer the Upper Bowl. Unless some dickhead ahead of you won’t stop leaning forward, you have a pretty good view of the entire ice. Plus it’s more affordable, which you need if you plan on buying drastically overpriced beer.
  10. Worst seats I’ve ever had were about 10 rows behind Demko. The glass ended right at eye level, so the distortion between glass/no glass made it essentially impossible to see what was going on at the other end without ducking your neck into some awful position.
  11. Maybe Johnny Tightlips is trying to play chess through the media in regards to Carlsson. It really does seem odd for a management group that has generally kept their cards close to their chest to come out and say something like this. There's an extremely high chance Carlsson isn't even there at 5. I have to wonder how this fits into "the plan". It seems counterintuitive to give up the amount of assets it would take to move up that far based on everything else they've said. I also really hope this isn't a "Swedish" thing. I like Carlsson as a prospect a lot, but if this is true and it isn't smoke and mirrors, I have to worry they're overvaluing him due to the Swedish factor.
  12. The problem is that there isn't a whole lot of room to make renovations. You can add comfier chairs, but there isn't much to be done about things like legroom. Because they had stick the arena between two viaducts when they built it, space is at an absolute premium. The thing that bugs me as someone who usually buys upper bowl tickets when I go, is that if the person ahead of you leans forward even slightly, it really screws up your view. The problem is I don't think there's much that can be done to fix that. I really hope the new seats all have cup holders though.
  13. Yeah I would be happy with Benson. As far as the GMs picking though, if you pick Player X over Player Y because you genuinely think Player X is better, but turn out to be wrong and player Y is better, oops. Mistakes happen, nobody bats 100. But if you pick Player X over Player Y because you think Player Y is better but Player X plays a position you want, thats setting yourself up for failure. I'll use the 2018 draft as an example, because I think it works perfectly and it lets me make a point about drafting while shitting on teams other than the Canucks. In the 2018 draft at picks 5,6 and 7 you had Barrett Hayton, Filip Zadina and Quinn Hughes. Detroit picked Zadina over Hughes. That was obviously a mistake, but they thought Zadina was the better player so at the time it was the right call to make. Your assessment was just wrong. The flip side is Arizona, who took Hayton. Not because they thought he was the best player available, but because he was "a big centre". That's a mistake.
  14. Take all the swings on defensemen or centres you want in the later rounds. Your 1st, 2nd, and maybe even 3rd round picks should be BPA. If with your first round pick you take a player who you have ranked as an inferior prospect over a player you have ranked higher than them because they fit a positional need you have at the moment, you deserve to be fired on the spot. Its why I find all the mocks of Axel Sandin-Pelikka to the Canucks frustrating. I really don't think people are saying we'll take him because he's the best prospect available at that spot. I think they're mocking him to us because we need defensemen and he's projected to be the best defenseman still available at this spot. This isn't like the NFL where your draft picks are expected to start the next season and you construct your roster each year around your picks. You build your team and hope your draft picks can compete for spots when they're ready.
  15. I've heard there have been plans to upgrade the seats for awhile. I think they were planning on doing it earlier but the pandemic put a hold on things and they're just now getting back around to it. People have been debating the colour for awhile, I think navy blue would be the best.
  16. Are you referring to the game between the Knights and Stars being played right now? In that case I would suspect the posts are in the Knights vs Stars thread, not here.
  17. I've read the black seats are part of a new "presidential suite" they're adding. They're still probably replacing the seats but it sounds like they're cordoning off another chunk of the arena for suit season ticket holders.
  18. The thing about Ballard is I just don't think he fit in AV's system, and thus ended up in his doghouse and this created a negative feedback loop that tanked his career. Sometimes that happens, you can have a good player who just doesn't fit in somewhere and isn't productive because of it. You can also have a player who isn't particularly good but fits perfectly somewhere and it elevates their game and the game of the players around them.
  19. Its a great time for the game. You've got choice. Hockey on one channel, paint drying on the other.
  20. Everyone. We're "obsessed" with the Leafs. even moreso than the Canucks.
  21. It will never happen. The Laffs are probably the most territorial team in existence. They think everyone should be a Leafs fan. If they tried to block Vancouver in the '67 expansion because apparently all of English Canada is Leafs territory and they consider 400km away Ottawa to be their cross town rival, they will never allow another team close to TO.
